Pink Tutu Blog London: Post 286 - A Whirlwind Friday in the Big Smoke!

Hello my darling tutu-lovers!

It's Emma here, back from another glorious adventure in the capital! I can't believe it's already Friday again, time just flies when you're twirling through London town!

This week, I boarded the train from my little haven in Derbyshire, leaving the rolling hills behind for the vibrant hum of the big city. And you know me, I just can't resist a bit of pink, so of course I donned my brand new fluffy tulle skirt with its sparkling pink sequins! (You can check out the full look on my Instagram, #EmmaPinkTutu!)

This time, my adventures were fueled by a double dose of excitement - a matinée performance of Giselle at the Royal Opera House, and a day dedicated to discovering some of London's hidden gems.

But before I reveal all the dazzling details, let me tell you how I manage to finance these adventures, as you all keep asking.

Funding the Tutu Dreams:

You see, I have a little secret. Apart from this blog and my Instagram, I have a rather special talent... *I dance! * I absolutely adore the magic of ballet and I've been lucky enough to secure a few freelance roles in ballet companies around the country. It’s a hard graft, but it allows me to live my pink tutu dream and follow my passion for travelling and experiencing everything that London has to offer!

The London Ballet: A Day of Ballet Bliss:

Arriving in London with the sun streaming through the windows of the train, I couldn't wait to immerse myself in the theatrical wonderland of Covent Garden. As I skipped off the tube at Covent Garden station, the aroma of roasted nuts and street food hit my nostrils - a delightful symphony of scents!

After a quick stop to admire the street performers - I swear one even did a double pirouette! - I made my way to the magnificent Royal Opera House. I'm always mesmerised by its architectural grandeur, it's like a dream come to life!

The air inside thrummed with excitement as people from all walks of life bustled to their seats, their anticipation as tangible as the scent of fresh perfume and old leather. The house lights dimmed, and then - the orchestra’s sweet, melancholic strings began.

Oh, the magic! Giselle took me on an emotional journey that captivated me from start to finish. The delicate grace of the dancers, the heart-wrenching narrative, the breathtaking costumes... it was a truly unforgettable experience. Afterwards, as the audience roared its approval, I stood there for a moment, feeling that pure exhilaration that only a perfect ballet performance can deliver.

Exploring London: A Treasure Hunt in Pink:

With the echoes of the final curtain still ringing in my ears, I was ready to explore London's hidden treasures!

The Chelsea Flower Show:

First, I took the tube down to Chelsea and wandered into the world of colour, fragrance, and floral magic - the Chelsea Flower Show. Now, if you love anything that’s pink, this place is a total dream! Everywhere I looked there were shades of rose, magenta, peach, and flamingo pink blooming in every shape and size! My pink tutu, by the way, matched the flowers perfectly, making me feel like a whimsical little garden sprite.

The V&A Museum:

My next stop was the grand Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington. If you’re a fan of fashion history, like myself, this place is like a time machine for your wardrobe! There were gowns from every era, from Elizabethan ruffs to vintage Dior! And let’s be honest, what’s better than being surrounded by incredible historical costumes and feeling a touch of inspiration for my own outfits?

A Spot of Afternoon Tea:

To finish the day in style, I headed to a delightful tearoom for a spot of afternoon tea. Nothing quite says ‘elegant British indulgence’ like sandwiches, scones, and, of course, a steaming pot of Darjeeling tea! The whole experience was perfectly lovely and gave me the perfect opportunity to reflect on the day’s adventures.

Fashion Favourites:

Naturally, a trip to London wouldn't be complete without a visit to its amazing fashion stores. While strolling down Oxford Street, I felt a sudden urge to twirl my tutu, much to the amusement of passing shoppers (hey, you gotta live life a little!) I was drawn to the gorgeous new blush-pink ballet-inspired collection at a famous department store. This shop is a favourite spot of mine - they always have such a beautiful selection of clothes that make me want to get dressed up to the nines. And let me tell you, finding a fabulous pair of new pink ballet shoes is always the cherry on top of the shopping spree!

Evening Escapades:

Later that evening, the excitement of my Friday wasn't over! After a yummy, light dinner of Thai green curry in a trendy little restaurant, I made my way to the heart of London's theatre district to witness another extraordinary spectacle: The Lion King.

It’s amazing how they managed to bring such iconic animals to life on stage! The colours, costumes, and energy were electric, creating an unforgettable performance. Even the youngest theatregoers in the audience were enthralled!

Why I Love London:

Every trip to London leaves me brimming with excitement and a renewed sense of inspiration. Whether I’m dancing my heart out, immersing myself in the city's vibrant culture, or indulging in its delicious culinary delights, London always delivers. I have to admit, London’s chaotic energy and fast-paced life are something I crave whenever I find myself back in the quiet Derbyshire countryside.

Sharing the Love for Tutu Life:

As I type this, the last sliver of sun is setting over London's skyline. But it’s not just the sights and sounds that keep me coming back to London. It’s the chance to connect with fellow tutu enthusiasts, to share my passion for dance and to hopefully inspire even just one person to embrace the joy of a pink tutu!

My goal is to make wearing a pink tutu as acceptable as a classic LBD - why should it be just for little girls on special occasions? If you’re thinking about trying a tutu for a night out, I’m all for it! Who knows, maybe your love for tutus will be ignited and the pink tutu world will grow a little bit bigger.

Remember to keep those pink tutu dreams twirling!

I can't wait to share more of my London adventures with you next Friday. And if you’d like to tell me about your own pink tutu experiences, leave a comment below, follow me on Instagram @EmmaPinkTutu and check out my blog on www.pink-tutu.com. Don’t forget to give it a little twirl!

Until next time,

Emma x
