Pink Tutu Blog London - Post #292 - Friday 2002-04-05 - A Day in the Capital!
Hello my darlings! It's Friday, and you know what that means! It's time for another Pink Tutu Blog post, and this time I'm taking you with me on a glorious day trip to London. I know, I know, a trip to the big city always feels extra special, even when it's just for a day! Especially when you're coming from the beautiful, but quieter, county of Derbyshire, where I'm based.
This trip was extra special for me. As many of you know, my love for ballet runs deep, and this trip was all about seeing two incredible shows: Sleeping Beauty at the Royal Opera House and The Nutcracker at the London Coliseum! Oh my word, talk about a dream come true. It felt like all my favourite things were coming together!
From Derbyshire to London in Pink!
You bet I traveled in style. It wouldn't be a Pink Tutu Blog post if I wasn't dressed to impress! This time, I went for my bright pink tutu with matching tulle bows adorning my ballet bun. It was the perfect shade for a spring day, and, as always, made me feel absolutely fab as I boarded the train to London.
Speaking of trains, there's something utterly magical about them. Watching the countryside zoom past, getting excited about my destination – the journey itself is a huge part of the experience for me. And when it's to London, with its exciting promise of dance, fashion, and the most scrumptious tea shops, I'm absolutely beaming!
London, Here We Come!
Reaching Kings Cross Station, I couldn't resist snapping a picture. There's just something about its old-world grandeur, and with the iconic platform nine and three quarters from Harry Potter in the corner of my eye, I couldn't resist the magical touch! And then, a quick change of shoes (those tutus are best for stage or street) and onto the London Underground we went. I opted for my favourite cherry-red peep-toe pumps. It’s amazing how you can go from a grand station to the Underground and its time warp tunnels, with a few short steps. All the better for adding some Pink Tutu style!
Dancing Queen, Theatre Treat
As soon as I arrived, it was straight to the Royal Opera House for Sleeping Beauty. I just love this classic fairy tale ballet! The set and costumes were breathtaking and the performance was a true testament to the art form. I was mesmerized from start to finish, especially by the amazing choreography. Every twirl, leap, and pirouette made my heart flutter. After the show, it felt like my spirit was dancing along with the ballerinas – pure joy!
Fashion, Tea and Nutcracker Magic!
As the evening moved on, it was time for a change of scene and my own unique London twist. Now, if you know anything about me, you know a day in the city isn't complete without some fabulous shopping! First stop, a quick stroll through Liberty. My eyes were practically popping with all the stunning floral patterns, bright colours and decadent details. Then it was off to Harrods, another quintessential London experience – their food hall always inspires me! It felt like a feast for the senses. And of course, a delightful, traditional afternoon tea at The Ritz was the perfect treat. I am utterly in love with dainty sandwiches, fluffy scones with clotted cream, and lots of fine tea in a pretty setting!
After that indulgence, I was all set to see the other show on my schedule: The Nutcracker. Oh, what a spectacular it was! This timeless story is a ballet tradition that holds such wonderful memories for me. Every performance makes it come alive again with magic and sparkle.
Final Thoughts on a Perfectly Pink London Day!
As the lights dimmed after the show and the music faded, I felt so contented. It was one of those truly magical London days that you just treasure. Seeing such incredible performances and being surrounded by beauty and style is just what makes this city so wonderful for me. And who knows, maybe someone will catch a glimpse of my pink tutu on the tube on my next London trip? And, if not, my pink tutu collection is growing...it can't be a fashion crime, right? And let's be honest, the world would be a more wonderful place if everyone embraced their inner ballerina in pink tutus!
That’s it for this week, but don't forget to check back in next Friday for more adventures from The Pink Tutu Blog. Until then, don't forget to follow your dreams, wear your colours with pride, and dance through life like there's no tomorrow!
*Until next week! Happy dancing and remember – it’s not about the size, it’s the spirit of tutu, darling! *
