Pink Tutu Blog London: Post 314 - Friday 2002-09-06: A Tutu-ful Day in the Capital!

Hello my lovely Tutu-ettes!

It's Friday, the sun is shining (well, it's trying its best in this glorious London drizzle), and I'm just back from a day trip to the most magical city in the world - London!

As you know, I'm a massive train enthusiast. There's something so romantic and liberating about being swept away on a journey, watching the countryside whizz by, my mind swirling with creative energy. This week's adventure took me on a trip from Derbyshire, a county I adore for its green hills and charming villages, right into the bustling heart of London.

For a city that's full of history and glamour, London always manages to feel new and exciting. Today was a whirlwind of vibrant colour, fascinating sights, and delicious treats, all of course punctuated with a little Pink Tutu Magic.

Now, let's jump straight into it, shall we?

Train Travel in My Tutu:

The train journey to London is always an adventure. This time I donned my shimmering lilac tutu (perfect for catching the sunlight that dares to peek through the clouds), my ballet bag filled with the essential travel necessities: a good book, a pink polka dot travel mug brimming with fragrant Earl Grey, and, of course, a pair of pristine white ballet shoes just in case the mood strikes me to pirouette down the platform.

My fellow passengers seemed intrigued by my attire. It's always a little disconcerting, isn't it, to be the only one dressed in a tutu on a train full of smartly dressed business people and hurried tourists. But, hey, this is my blog and this is my life. Let them be amused!

Landing in London:

Arriving at London King's Cross, a magnificent and iconic station (especially if you're a Harry Potter fan!), the air buzzed with energy. The sights and sounds of this metropolis are truly enchanting.

The first thing that caught my eye was a bright red double-decker bus decorated with sunflowers, chugging along a street filled with vibrant posters, colourful shopfronts and a myriad of delicious-smelling food vendors. This, my friends, is why I adore London!

Londonā€™s Secret Gem:

My first stop? A delightful surprise tucked away in Covent Garden, a secret gem that even some Londoners wouldnā€™t know about! It's called "The Ballet Shop." You've probably guessed from the name - it's an absolute haven for ballerinas. From pointe shoes to tutus to stunning dancewear, it has it all.

It took all my willpower not to spend my entire budget in that beautiful shop! I emerged, my shopping bag a glorious kaleidoscope of colours, feeling like a princess from a magical fairyland (well, perhaps with a slightly more practical handbag!).

Theatre Dreams:

No trip to London is complete without a touch of theatre magic. Luckily, the iconic London Palladium was hosting the final performance of ā€œChicagoā€ and the timing was impeccable. A glorious blend of music, dance, and drama, ā€œChicagoā€ has become my favourite show.

Watching the amazing dance routines unfold onstage reminded me just how much joy a simple leap or twirl can bring. I canā€™t resist, you know, letting loose a little myself, swirling in my pink tutu around the foyer as soon as the show finished.

Afternoon Tea and Fashion:

Now, every fashionable London visit requires a traditional afternoon tea. You canā€™t go wrong with a lovely spread of sandwiches, pastries, and a perfectly brewed pot of Earl Grey. The delicate finger sandwiches were so light, they almost felt like clouds! I can't deny indulging in the pink and white macarons with lemon filling (just look at the colours! I mean, how could I not?).

And, because this is the fashion capital of the world, no visit would be complete without some high-street fashion browsing. London's shops are an absolute treat! I just adore the mix of styles, colours, and textures that I find here, from the high-end boutiques of Mayfair to the independent shops of Shoreditch. Today, I couldn't resist picking up a stunning pink cardigan (my love of all things pink knows no bounds) and a gorgeous black lace dress. It wouldnā€™t be a Pink Tutu Blog London without a bit of pink!

A Little Dance, a Little Dream:

The afternoon whizzed by in a whirl of colours, shops, and laughter. To celebrate a fabulous day out, I made a quick detour to the grand Victorian-era structure of the Royal Albert Hall. The majestic hall is renowned for its incredible acoustics and vibrant history. As the late afternoon sun filtered through the ornate windows, I took a moment to dream and to dance, imagining the countless performances that graced this hallowed space. Just me, a Pink Tutu and the ghosts of dancers past. Now that's what I call a real ballet fan!

Evening Magic:

It's getting late, so my London adventure was coming to a close. As the streetlights began to glow, illuminating the city in a soft golden hue, I realised something extraordinary. London's beauty doesn't just lie in its grandeur, its sights, and its stories. Itā€™s in the little moments. The moment you watch a couple twirling on a dancefloor as you sip on a hot chocolate. The moment a street artist finishes a whimsical chalk drawing on the pavement, and a smile spreads across a passerby's face. Itā€™s in those moments, the ones filled with human connection, that I truly feel that magic I so often talk about in my blog.

So there you have it! A day of joy, colour, fashion, and the beautiful, magical essence of London.

My lovely tutu-ettes, thank you for joining me today. I truly believe that with a little pink magic and a sprinkle of fairy dust, life is always better with a tutu.

Until next Friday, I'll be twirling through Derbyshire, hoping for a little sunshine and, of course, dreaming of more Pink Tutu Adventures in London!

Love always,

Emma www.pink-tutu.com
