Pink Tutu Blog London - Post #343: Friday Fun in the Big Smoke!
Hello my lovely tutu-twirling friends! It's Friday again, which means it's time for another installment of Pink Tutu Blog London! This week, I took the train down to the big smoke (as they call it up here in Derbyshire), all in my pink tutu, of course.
As soon as I arrived at King's Cross station, the hustle and bustle of London filled me with a thrill I simply can't explain! This city just pulses with energy and excitement, making me feel like a ballerina pirouetting under a dazzling spotlight.
But before I delve into my adventures, let's talk about how I got here. I may be a tutu-wearing, ballerina-obsessed twenty-something, but I'm also practical! I fund all my travels by performing at ballet events, and thankfully, I had a rather successful week of fundraising back in Derbyshire.
Travelling in Style: Train to London
Now, anyone who knows me knows I love a good train journey. There's something magical about watching the world zoom past the window, especially from my comfy window seat. This time, I chose the Virgin Trains East Coast service because let's face it, a pink tutu deserves a touch of glamour, wouldn't you agree?
The train was fantastic. I had the chance to work on some upcoming dance choreography in my journal (it's much easier to brainstorm steps on the move). And to keep things lively, I indulged in my favorite book, "The Ballet Lover's Guide to London" (it's a bit outdated but still a great starting point!). I may have also accidentally turned a few heads with my bright pink tutu. Hey, a bit of colour never hurt anyone!
First Stop: The National Gallery
The National Gallery was the first stop on my London adventure, and oh my, what a place! It’s a wonderland of art from across the ages. I was particularly mesmerized by a portrait by Leonardo da Vinci called "The Virgin of the Rocks". The way he painted the folds of the Virgin Mary's cloak, it's simply captivating! The whole thing made me want to put on my dancing shoes and create a movement inspired by the composition.
I even managed to strike up a conversation with an art critic who told me some interesting trivia about the gallery. Did you know the paintings are arranged chronologically? Fascinating! He was actually quite taken with my tutu – a bit shy about it at first, but then he cracked a smile and said it was "a very bold statement". It was all a bit surreal, really, to be surrounded by iconic artwork while wearing my pink tutu!
Lunch Break: Delicious and Pink
Feeling a little peckish after all that art appreciation, I made my way to a café called "The Pink Flamingo" (fate! or a sign from the pink tutu gods!). It was like stepping into a retro haven! Pink wallpaper, plush pink velvet seating, and pink everything, honestly! I felt right at home.
Their cakes were delightful, but the "Pink Panther" tea was something else. A delicate blend of floral flavors, it truly completed my Pink-Tutu-themed afternoon.
The London Ballet's Cinderella
No trip to London would be complete without a trip to the theatre, especially for a tutu-obsessed girl like myself. On Friday, the London Ballet was putting on a rendition of Cinderella, and I couldn’t miss it!
Now, you all know my love for the classic tale, and this adaptation didn’t disappoint! From the opening scenes at the ball, with shimmering gowns and glittering tiaras, to the gentle magic of Cinderella’s fairy godmother, it was a sheer joy to watch. The dancers were incredible; every leap, every turn was breathtaking. And of course, I couldn't help but think about how my own choreography would bring new life to this timeless tale.
A Spot of Shopping at Liberty's
I do love my pink tutus, but any true fashionista knows that variety is the spice of life. That's why I spent a wonderful afternoon browsing the incredible selection of clothes at Liberty's, a truly magnificent department store with stunning stained-glass windows and a fairytale-like atmosphere.
The fashion here was bold and glamorous. I picked up some lovely silk scarves to match my different tutu creations. I just couldn't resist some lace trimmings to add a touch of feminine grace to my everyday wardrobe!
Street Style and Tutu-inspired Glamour
I've always found inspiration everywhere. I don't even need to be in a theatre or a ballet studio! London is bursting with fashion! I adore how people express themselves through their clothes. It’s a colourful mix of vintage charm and cutting-edge styles, from playful patterns and colourful hats to tailored coats and street-inspired ensembles.
It reminded me that even a tutu-obsessed girl like me can take inspiration from the diversity of London’s street style. A touch of elegance, a sprinkle of sass, and always a good dose of individuality, just like my tutu philosophy!
Back on the Train: Reflecting on London's Magic
As I hopped on the train back to Derbyshire, I couldn't help but smile at the memories. The whirlwind adventure had given me an invigorating energy boost, reminding me why I love the Big Smoke so much. London, with its mix of art, culture, and sheer exuberance, never fails to captivate and inspire me. I'm already planning my next trip back.
*Until next Friday, I leave you with a challenge. Why not embrace a bit of Pink Tutu-inspired magic in your everyday life? Try a pink accessory, a little glitter, or maybe even a playful tutu to express your inner ballerina! Remember, confidence comes from within and is reflected in your style. Let's make the world a bit brighter and more magical one tutu at a time! *
Stay tuned for next week’s blog! And don’t forget, all you pink tutu enthusiasts can check out all my adventures and latest news at www.pink-tutu.com.
With sparkly love and pirouetting enthusiasm,
