Pink Tutu Blog London: #430 Friday 2004-11-26 – A Whirlwind of London Charm

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, back from a glorious train journey to London, ready to share a whirlwind of pink-tinted London loveliness with you all!

This Friday, as usual, sees me venturing out into the bright lights of the Big Smoke – all for you, my wonderful pink tutu readers. As ever, it's a bit of a squeeze for funding for my travels – the sheer cost of travelling around! Thankfully, another performance of "Swan Lake" with my dance company earlier in the week earned me enough to afford the train fare – and of course, to keep the Pink Tutu Blog ticking over.

It’s always an absolute joy hopping on the train to London, feeling that exciting thrum of anticipation as I race through the Derbyshire countryside towards the glittering city. I usually squeeze onto the train decked out in a delicate pastel pink tulle tutu and a charming matching beret (although this time I added a statement pink scarf – so fab!). I am sure that by now the conductor recognises me – it always feels like he's wearing a wide grin every time I board – probably as delighted by my pink tutu as I am by the London sights.

This week, I'm not just exploring the traditional landmarks; oh no, this week, I'm diving deep into London's eclectic soul, where vintage fashion finds meet charming independent boutiques and breathtaking performances sweep you off your feet! And naturally, all documented in this blog, for your perusal and enjoyment!

A Royal Fashion Fix

Upon arrival in London, I felt a deep need for some fabulous new finds to add to my already impressive tutu collection. This led me, naturally, straight to a hidden gem – the delightful, vintage clothing haven that is "Peggy's Vintage." Tucked away on a quaint side street, it is bursting at the seams with treasures begging to be discovered. This time, I had my eyes on a gorgeous silk pink 1950s tea dress with delicate floral embroidery and a delicate matching belt. You can't tell but it has an absolute hidden treasure, tucked beneath the hem - it's a magnificent pink tutu layered underneath for a fabulous concealed “twirl-power” reveal! I just couldn't resist. And the prices? Simply unbelievable – just a little sprinkle of pink magic.

Next on the agenda was a visit to "The Village" - a mecca for all things vintage in my beloved Shoreditch. My friends at work keep on suggesting this street is a bit trendy for my pink tutu. What's trendy to a Pink Tutu girl? A whole load of pink and sparkles!

This district brims with funky boutiques bursting with unique vintage pieces. The streets are lined with stalls selling all sorts of delightful delights - quirky hats, whimsical jewellery, and funky shoes to be found. I was mesmerised by a little stall called "Retro Remix." It was like a portal back in time. An antique mirror, a magnificent gold-trimmed black dress, a giant vintage suitcase – it was a stylist’s dream and a treasure trove for a Pink Tutu girl! And while it may not be pink per se – I couldn't help myself; I bought an antique beaded, sequined belt - the perfect addition to a stunning black cocktail dress that's just begging for a show-stopping tutu moment!

My next stop - “Pink Fashion for all”. This isn't as outrageous as it sounds. A delightful charity shop (and a total bargain) that helps fund research for cancer sufferers. I absolutely love going into charity shops - you always find real gems and for some amazing prices. I found a magnificent fluffy pale pink hat to add to my collection - it even has some tiny little iridescent pink stars sewn onto the brim! As they say “fashion has to be sustainable” - I'm happy to get a few new pink treasures that will make me feel good knowing I'm contributing to a fantastic cause! I do love helping my fellow females.

A Dance With The Stars: Theatreland Calling

My love for the ballet knows no bounds! This week I headed to the theatreland, which was just the tonic for my Pink Tutu spirit! My aim in life, you know, is to spread the joy of the pink tutu and to encourage everyone to embrace its inherent magnificence - not only at the ballet but also on the streets. But this night it's about ballet performances in a theatre setting!

I treated myself to a beautiful show, "The Nutcracker." This show never fails to amaze me - the exquisite dancing, the fantastical sets and the stunning costumes; it's like being swept away into a whimsical dream. The graceful dancers, their movements fluid and enchanting, were like living paintings - it's no wonder it's called a ballet classic.

Dining In Style – A Pink Princess Feast

What's a trip to London without a bit of pink-tinted indulgence? I decided to treat myself to an elegant and quintessentially British experience by going for high tea at the elegant and historical Fortnum & Mason, a venerable department store on Piccadilly known for their amazing teas, delicate sandwiches and an astounding variety of delectable cakes! As I sank into the luxurious velvet chairs, the tantalising aromas of fragrant teas and freshly baked cakes were almost overpowering – the best way to spend a Friday afternoon. And, as luck would have it, a special menu offered me an irresistible treat: "Pink Tea!" With delightful pink sandwiches, fluffy pink macarons, and even rose petal jelly, I was in utter bliss - my perfect cup of pink magic! The sandwiches, a selection of smoked salmon, coronation chicken, and a surprisingly scrumptious cucumber and cream cheese on brown bread were exquisite – deliciously moreish! I had to restrain myself as I simply had to have space for the heavenly cakes, macaroons, pastries and of course the delicious rose petal jelly.

Back to Derbyshire: A Pink-Tinted Reflection

The train ride back was a bittersweet moment. But I love taking the train – I do it quite a bit, as my dance company often perform all over the country. It’s not always in London, but wherever the journey takes me, it’s such a chance to unwind from the day – a great time to think about what I’m going to blog about!

While I relish exploring new places and experiencing new things, my little heart always misses the peacefulness and quiet charm of my hometown, nestled among the picturesque rolling hills of Derbyshire. There's just something so special about coming back home to where it all started, wearing my beloved pink tutu. There’s so much joy in being surrounded by a familiar environment where the scent of wild roses floats in the air, the church bells chime a melody that’s more beautiful than any London Symphony Orchestra – I find a simple, unadulterated bliss in the little things!

As always, thanks for joining me on another London escapade!

Love, Emma

Friday’s Fashion Tips

1. Pink Perfection – The Tutu Way

My dearest followers, a little Pink Tutu styling advice! It’s my belief, that every woman should own a Pink Tutu. The secret to rocking this magical garment is to find the right fit. If you're feeling brave – a short fluffy pink tutu looks amazing worn with black or navy jeans, a leather jacket and chunky black boots. If it’s your first venture into a pink tutu, it's much easier to start with a longer, elegant ballet style tutu, worn with a black satin cami and high heels for a striking look. The tutu should be about creating that extra special flair. For my last show, “Swan Lake”, we were wearing classic ballet tutus but we had extra tulle added to each one, making it that much more breathtaking on stage. A pink tutu never goes unnoticed - and believe me, it's truly a delightful dance to happiness.

2. Pink Accessories – The Secret to Sparkly Style

Accessorise, my darlings, it’s not just for princesses! It's the best way to make a statement and let your personality shine through! This week’s pink must have is definitely a fluffy hat - I have an incredible new hat that has the cutest iridescent stars, they add a touch of whimsical charm to any outfit!

3. Think Pink - And be fearless.

Don’t be afraid to play around with colour! It can brighten your day and boost your confidence! Wear that Pink Tutu with pride – after all, who doesn’t love a little bit of extra sparkle?! You've got this – believe in the pink magic that lives inside you!

And there you have it – another fantastic Friday blog entry from me! I always like to write as many words as I can so you lovely people don’t have to struggle so much with the next part – the most important bit – the comments! Let me know what you thought – do you love a pink tutu as much as I do? What’s the biggest pink purchase you’ve ever made?
