Pink Tutu Blog London: Post 446 - A Whirlwind Friday in the Big Smoke!
Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, and it's Friday, which means it's time for another adventure in the fabulous city of London! As usual, I've traded in my comfy Derbyshire countryside for the bustle and energy of the capital, and I'm already buzzing with excitement. I love everything about London - the historic buildings, the vibrant street culture, the amazing theatre, the world-class ballet scene... oh, and the shopping, of course!
This week, I travelled up by train (it's just so relaxing and I can catch up on my ballet books), and after arriving in Victoria station, my first stop was naturallyโฆ Harrods! A girl's gotta do what a girl's gotta do, right? ๐ I absolutely love Harrods for their decadent selection of everything and their gorgeous food hall. This time, I treated myself to some adorable pink ballet slippers from the shoe department (in perfect pink, obviously) and some gorgeous flower-printed silk pyjamas for my next sleepover at the theatre. Plus, a couple of pastel pink macarons from the food hall, just because. ๐
With my shopping spree completed (it's not a proper London trip without a little retail therapy!), it was time for the true purpose of my journey: The Royal Ballet! I was fortunate enough to catch the last night of The Nutcracker (ah, that beautiful sugarplum fairy dream scene!), and oh my, it was simply spectacular. I was mesmerized by the intricate choreography, the incredible dancers' effortless grace and the gorgeous sets. As a seasoned ballerina myself, watching these incredible performers was just awe-inspiring!
After the ballet, I had dinner in Covent Garden, a place I could get lost in for days, exploring the independent shops and the vibrant street performers. It's such a charming area, filled with hidden gems, like the charming bookshop I found, bursting with ballet and theatre books (definitely picking up a few classics to add to my growing collection).
As it's March and the city is in bloom (literally!), I made a detour through Hyde Park, a serene escape from the city buzz. The bright yellow daffodils, vibrant purple crocuses and bright red tulips in the flowerbeds were simply breathtaking. This year, I couldn't resist snapping some photos with a pink tutu-wearing child, her Mum so kindly agreed, we were twinning in tutus!
In the evening, I headed back to Victoria station (don't worry, I was prepared with a pink and black train outfit, perfectly suited for travel chic!) for a night out. My bestie (who, for once, decided to ditch her denim and try a cute, pink pencil skirt! Yay! ๐), joined me for dinner at a darling Italian restaurant on King's Road, with views overlooking the Thames. Then, we indulged in the best kind of theatrical performance โ Mamma Mia at the Novello Theatre! Oh, that musical, what a joyful rollercoaster of catchy tunes and laugh-out-loud moments! You could say I had a really happy ending to my whirlwind London Friday.
Friday is truly my favourite day in the week. Itโs the perfect chance to enjoy a little bit of magic, escape into a fantastical world, and be completely absorbed in the world of dance and performance. Whether it's watching professional dancers at the Royal Ballet or perfecting my pirouettes in my ballet class (always in my trusty pink tutu, of course!), I find joy in the expressive artistry and graceful movements that come with ballet.
Speaking of my trusty tutu, you all know my ultimate goal - I want to see the whole world in a pink tutu! ๐ Every week, I find new inspiration in London, a city brimming with creativity, beauty, and a hint of mischief (don't even get me started on those incredible street performers!)
Next Friday, I'm going to try and track down that elusive London pink tutu club (a rumour amongst my fellow ballerina friends), imagine! Maybe I can even encourage a few men to join us โ though a hot pink waistcoat might be a good compromise for the lads! ๐
See you next Friday, darlings, with more pink-tastic adventures from London! Donโt forget to visit my website: www.pink-tutu.com for more ballet and travel updates.
Until then, keep twirling, keep shining, and remember, thereโs a little pink tutu waiting for you! ๐
