Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #488 - Friday 6th January 2006: A Pink Tutu in the City!
"Oh London, how I love thee! You're like a giant box of chocolates – every corner holds a delightful surprise."
The morning mist had finally lifted from the Derbyshire hills as I boarded the train to London, the hum of anticipation building in my chest. This weekend was all about celebrating my favourite city, with a splash of pink, of course.
As the train sped south, I tucked into a cup of steaming Earl Grey and pulled out my latest copy of Vogue. My new pink satin tutu – a gorgeous, twirling creation – peeked out from my bag, itching to be let loose in the streets. After all, a tutu is the perfect travel accessory, don’t you think? It’s elegant, eye-catching, and guarantees you never forget your bag on a busy train!
The Big Smoke Beckons:
And finally, I arrived! London's magic greeted me with a chorus of horns and the scent of fresh coffee and cinnamon from the nearby market stalls. My heart was leaping!
It was time for the first part of my London mission: A fabulous, girly shopping spree! Now, if you’re a fashion fan, then Oxford Street is the place to be. This street is an absolute haven for clothes shopping, shoes, handbags…everything! I popped into my favourite boutiques and indulged in a little retail therapy. A sparkly pink scarf here, a gorgeous pair of blush-toned shoes there, and oh, a brand new tutu, just to celebrate being in the capital!
Tutus at the Theatre:
My evening took me to a true gem: the Royal Opera House. Ballet was on the schedule – a spectacular performance of Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. The theatre itself is simply breathtaking – a Victorian masterpiece with its grandeur and plush seating. I’ve always loved watching the grace and elegance of the dancers on stage. I always learn new techniques that I can incorporate into my own routines.
As the final bows were taken, a little spark of inspiration ignited within me. It's not every day that you get to see such breathtaking beauty. I've decided to set up a small workshop in the city. I can already picture it – a little studio tucked away in a quiet corner, filled with the sounds of pirouettes and laughter. Maybe I'll even open a pop-up boutique and introduce the city to the wonder that is the pink tutu!
Sunday Soirée
I woke up on Sunday, feeling utterly revitalized. After all, what's better for your spirit than a dose of the Arts, combined with a shopping spree and the allure of London? The day began with a charming, quaint little cafe for breakfast, tucked away on a narrow street just a short stroll from the British Museum. It’s the perfect spot to sit and soak up the charm of London life.
With my coffee in hand, I felt an insatiable urge for a walk around the bustling Borough Market. It was teeming with a symphony of colours, scents and sounds. Local crafts, fresh produce, artisan breads, colourful cheeses, the aroma of spices… I was in heaven!
I grabbed a steaming hot Cornish pasty (my ultimate London foodie treat!), and settled down to watch the world go by. What truly amazed me about Borough Market is that it still manages to have a wonderfully warm, welcoming community feel, even within the hustle and bustle of the city.
The day ended with a visit to the majestic Victoria & Albert Museum. From porcelain to textiles, from architecture to sculpture, there's simply an abundance of fascinating objects from across the world. You can easily spend an entire afternoon in there and still only manage to explore a fraction of it all! I loved gazing at the magnificent gowns from the past, their intricate details and rich fabrics whispered tales of times gone by. It always sparks my creativity, I must find a way to recreate these beautiful pieces into pink tutu interpretations!
Back to Derbyshire:
The time flew by and, soon enough, it was time for my journey back to Derbyshire. But this weekend was anything but ordinary. Every detail of my trip, every scent and sound, even the rush of the train, felt etched onto my heart, promising a return visit.
And this is the beauty of London. No matter how many times you visit, there is always something new to discover, something magical to encounter, a moment to treasure.
Until next Friday,
Emma
