#PinkTutuBlogLondon - Friday 2006-05-12 - London Calling! (Post #506)

Hello my darlings! It’s Friday, the sun is shining, and guess who's in London? That's right, your favourite pink tutu-clad adventurer, Emma! This week I’m taking you on a whirlwind tour of London, with all its glorious shops, beautiful sights and dazzling performances, all experienced from a perspective that only a tutu-wearing ballet enthusiast can bring.

A Derbyshire Lass in London Town!

The journey from my little Derbyshire home to London is always a treat. The train ride, a blur of green countryside quickly morphing into industrial sprawl, then finally settling on the rhythmic clatter of tracks alongside London's urban sprawl, always fills me with a thrill. My trusty tutu and a good book are my perfect travelling companions, a pinch of pink against the world whizzing past my window.

My London Adventures: Friday Fun!

The moment I stepped off the train at King’s Cross, a burst of vibrant energy, mixed with the smell of freshly-baked pastries and the joyous clatter of the tube, welcomed me. London on a Friday always feels particularly lively, buzzing with the anticipation of the weekend.

First stop - Oxford Street, my retail therapy paradise! I had to snag myself some new, pink-tastic pieces for the weekend ahead, of course! Think flowing floral print skirts for the ballet class, glitzy silver stilettos for a performance later, and a little lace dress for a afternoon tea, oh, darling! I just adore all things frivolous and fabulous, don't you? And Oxford Street just caters to my whims.

Speaking of performances… I couldn’t resist venturing to The Royal Opera House to catch the final matinee of ‘Swan Lake’! I just love this timeless classic, and watching the delicate ballerinas, their graceful movements a testament to years of hard work and dedication, always leaves me breathless. It was pure enchantment, the music swirling around me, the dancers pirouetting like celestial beings. Even the beautiful tutus (naturally pink in this production!) on the stage seemed to beckon to me. I wonder if I should add a full-fledged ballerina to my ever-growing to-do list. I know! Pink tutu ballet dreams for the next London trip? Maybe? ;)

Lunchtime Delights at Covent Garden:

I couldn’t possibly leave the West End without stopping for a delightful lunch in the vibrant Covent Garden Market. It’s like stepping into a miniature version of a fairytale, with its colourful stalls brimming with fresh flowers, exotic fruits, handmade trinkets, and street performers twirling around the central square.

For lunch, I tucked into the most delicious Italian pasta at the Covent Garden Market, the flavour exploding in my mouth as the sunshine painted warm rays across the cobblestones. Truly, London is a feast for the senses!

Fashionista and Street Performer: Double the Fun

And to top off the perfect London Friday, I had the most exhilarating afternoon spent in the heart of Soho!

First, I treated myself to a tea-and-scones ritual at a charming tea room in a side street. The ambience was divine: floral teacups, delicately crafted cakes, and an almost Victorian-era aura that just added to the charm. The whole afternoon tea experience felt straight out of a Jane Austen novel.

Afterwards, the fashion mecca of Covent Garden called me in with its beckoning neon lights, the promise of a perfect outfit. Hours disappeared in a haze of fabrics and window displays. From vintage shops with their retro-tastic threads to the chic boutiques displaying the latest designs, every step on these streets was a mini fashion show for me. My latest acquisition? A gorgeous pink silk scarf! Naturally, I can’t resist a bit of pink wherever I go.

Final Touches: London at Dusk

As dusk settled over the city, I found myself near the Houses of Parliament, bathed in a soft golden glow. The silhouette of the Big Ben, a symbol of the city, was so dramatic against the twilight sky. And as I strolled past Westminster Abbey, the grandeur of it, a quiet whisper of history, captivated my attention.

My Final Thoughts:

This was just a peek into my Friday in London. Every visit brings something new and unexpected, but I think that’s what I love the most! The sheer vitality and unpredictability of the city never ceases to amaze me.

For all of you out there who dream of pink tutus and big city adventures, I say… Just do it! London is waiting, full of endless possibilities!

Until next week, dear friends, stay sparkling, and remember - pink tutus always brighten the day!

Love, Emma
