Pink Tutu Blog London: #525 - London Calling!

Hello my lovely Pink Tutu Peeps! It’s Friday, which means it’s time for another dose of pink-tinted fun and London adventures!

This week I'm buzzing because I'm spending a weekend in the capital, the big smoke, the City of London, the one and only, the incredible LONDON!

You know, I just adore taking the train up to London, don’t you? There’s something about watching the world whizz by as I head towards this fantastic, inspiring, magical place. I settle into my window seat, usually grabbing a latte (don’t forget the sprinkles!), and spend the journey browsing magazines or sketching some new outfit ideas. It's a good excuse to dress up a little extra for the journey - this week I'm wearing my blush pink floral midi skirt and a cute knitted jumper that my gran made me for my birthday. I paired them with, of course, my trusty ballerina flat shoes.

Speaking of which
you won't be surprised to hear that my favourite things to do in London usually revolve around the wonderful world of dance. And this weekend is no different. I'm going to a performance of “The Nutcracker” at Sadler’s Wells. I always feel like my heart swells with excitement before a show. The buzz in the air, the beautiful costumes and makeup, the breathtaking music - it's simply magical. Plus, this week is even more exciting as it’s a fundraising event with profits going to support local children's dance workshops. Now that’s something I'm truly excited to be part of.

But first, it’s Friday afternoon, and I have a date with the heart of the city. Today’s plan is a whole day of sightseeing and soaking up the London vibe! I’m meeting my best friend Lizzie at Piccadilly Circus for lunch. Lizzie and I are complete opposites but that’s what makes us such great friends. I like girly pink and sparkly tutus, she prefers a sleek and minimal look. But she knows me better than anyone, and is my ultimate shopping buddy! I can't wait to explore Covent Garden together later.

Let’s get back to London, though. What can I say about the amazing energy of this city? Everywhere you turn there's something new and interesting to discover. I've already taken a selfie with a red telephone box, because it's not a visit to London without a photo of those beauties, and we've enjoyed some fish and chips from a charming little spot tucked away on a cobbled street. My heart’s full!

Speaking of cobbled streets, I absolutely love those little quirky lanes and alleyways tucked away in Covent Garden. This afternoon, we’re heading straight for the amazing street performers who entertain shoppers and tourists alike. Sometimes they are street dancers, sometimes acrobats or musicians. We both love the feeling of discovery.

Let's take a quick detour, shall we? I have to share some exciting news with you all: I've just found this incredible shop on Carnaby Street selling vintage ballet costumes. They have an absolutely massive collection of the most dazzling tutus and dancewear! And you know me – I just couldn't resist!

Okay, back to our wanderings
Today I am just obsessed with London's hidden cafes and cute bakeries! They have all sorts of cakes and pastries – chocolate croissants, miniature fruit tarts, raspberry swirls
it’s simply heaven! The afternoon sunshine streams through the large glass windows, making these cafĂ©s the perfect pit stop to fuel our London explorations.

Before we know it, the late afternoon has arrived and we are standing outside the world-famous Royal Albert Hall. There’s such a magic in the air here! This week it’s hosting a musical performance by one of my favourite singers! I am in heaven! We'll head inside in about half an hour - I always arrive just before a performance. You can't miss the beautiful lights, the excited chattering and the general feel of anticipation for the performance to start!

For a night like tonight, Lizzie knows that a special occasion dress code is needed. So we have a pre-show glam session in a cozy cafĂ© with beautiful window lighting. She's already put me in a gorgeous shimmering silver gown – I just need the finishing touch, so of course I chose to top off this magical look with my brand-new, oh-so-sparkly vintage pink tutu! Now we are ready to head into the Royal Albert Hall in style!

This concert is truly remarkable, the music, the atmosphere and the overall feeling - simply amazing. Lizzie’s favourite moment is when the singer performs the very famous ballad we’ve both loved since childhood! There is something wonderful about hearing a song that reminds us of a different time! The music carries us away on a cloud of joy and nostalgia.

The evening is drawing to a close, and Lizzie has convinced me to take the Tube. Oh, Lizzie is an expert at finding ways to navigate this fantastic, busy underground system, and I just trust her. It’s funny - even with years of ballet classes under my belt, my body’s never truly ready for those deep, narrow stairways! Thankfully the Tube takes us right to the heart of Covent Garden. As the evening starts winding down, I always get a bit nostalgic for my hometown of Derbyshire, with its rolling green hills and quiet villages, and can't help but feeling grateful for this wonderful opportunity to see so much beauty, hear great music, and feel the magic of this truly fantastic city! I love London. And I really cannot wait to visit again!

Speaking of beauty
you know my little shop has a very special online offer today only for you, my beloved Pink Tutu Peeps. Go and check out our stunning new range of pink, blush pink and silver ballet accessories and jewellery.

Oh, I'd better say goodbye now! As I’m heading back to my hometown in Derbyshire tomorrow, I'll be sure to share all the latest from London’s fashion scene with you next Friday. Make sure you join me then. In the meantime, stay pink, beautiful and remember:

Life is a stage. Find your tutu.

Love,

Emma.
