Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #542 - A Whirlwind Friday in London Town!

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite tutu-tastic traveller, back with another installment of Pink Tutu Blog London. This Friday, I'm sharing my adventures from a day spent exploring the bustling metropolis that is London town. Now, before we get to all the fabulousness, you've gotta know this: my trip began in the most delightful way possible - a train journey! I absolutely adore travelling by train. There's just something about the rhythmic clickety-clack of the wheels and the passing scenery that puts me in a fantastic mood. And of course, the train provides the perfect opportunity for some fabulous pink tutu-ing. My travel outfit was a vibrant fuchsia number with shimmering silver embellishments – utterly irresistible, don't you think?

Anyway, arriving at King's Cross station (which, by the way, always feels a bit magical with the Hogwarts Express platform being there), I felt the excitement of the city surging through my veins! Today's adventure had been carefully planned and included a dash of culture, a pinch of fashion, and a healthy dose of deliciousness. My day in London started off at the Barbican Centre. This architectural masterpiece, with its brutalist beauty, was hosting a modern ballet show by the acclaimed Nederlands Dans Theater. Oh, how I love a good ballet! The movement was contemporary, the dancers breathtaking, and the story-telling captivating. A brilliant start to the day, leaving me filled with inspiration and grace.

The Barbican Centre always holds such exciting performances. You can get really affordable last-minute tickets for a show the day before, and it's such a good way to get a last minute fix. If you're in London, I highly recommend checking their schedule out - you might just discover your new favourite show!

Next, I was on a mission for a little fashion fix! I popped into a couple of my favourite haunts in Covent Garden, but after all that creative inspiration at the ballet, I really wanted something bold and beautiful, so off to the gorgeous shops of Harrods I went. As always, Harrods is an emporium of dreams – a wonderland for the senses, filled with the most dazzling displays of clothes and accessories imaginable.

Now, being a ballerina, my weaknesses are definitely beautiful shoes and silky ballet wear! There was such a lovely shop that opened in Harrods - a new Ballet Rosa boutique. They had the most gorgeous tutus and dancing shoes you've ever seen. I may have succumbed to temptation, I confess. There were just too many sparkly, beautiful, pink tutu things to choose from!

Speaking of pink, you can imagine my delight when I saw the display of pink Chanel handbags! Chanel always does a fab pink – like, think the perfect shade of flamingo pink, the best possible shade of the best pink ever invented pink, the ultimate, perfect, pink of all pinks, pink! I almost got a little teary, it was so utterly gorgeous!

My lunchtime treats consisted of a delicious scone, jam and clotted cream in the Fortnum & Mason tea salon. It is impossible to have tea in London without popping into the fabulous F&M! Fortnum and Mason has such lovely china too, I really need to have a wander around their crockery section next time! Then I bought a rather spectacular pink floral cupcake from a baker next to my hotel – I mean, pink cupcakes and London are the perfect pair, wouldn't you say?

After my delightful culinary indulgences, it was time to explore more of the city's vibrant art scene! This time, it was off to the Tate Modern gallery, a museum showcasing contemporary and modern art. The collection is so eclectic, from giant sculptures to mesmerising installations – a must-see for any art enthusiast! I confess, though, that my attention was easily distracted by a rather interesting sculpture that featured a massive pink tutu. It was like it was calling to me, saying, "You know you want to twirl with me!"

To top off the evening, I caught a performance at the Shaftesbury Theatre, where I watched an utterly charming production of the Sound of Music. You wouldn’t believe, darlings, the fabulous pink costumes they used! It’s such a great place to go and really experience the theatre – such fantastic singing and such joyful dancing.

Of course, being a creature of habit, the end of my London day concluded with a final spin and twirl in the magnificent pink tutu that had adorned my journey. It’s amazing to have an entire day in London dedicated to the wonders of dance, fashion, and art - there’s a true magic in this amazing city. London, you're truly one of a kind!

And now, for a little reminder: remember to keep your sparkle on and spread the joy of the pink tutu, my darlings! Don’t forget to join me on www.pink-tutu.com next Friday for more London adventures. Until then, keep twirling and dreaming pink!

xo Emma, your London-loving ballerina.
