Pink Tutu Blog London: #543 - Friday Fun in the Big Smoke!
Hello lovelies! It’s your favourite tutu-clad explorer, Emma, back with another exciting blog post from the magnificent, vibrant city of London. I’ve had such a whirlwind week, packed with graceful pirouettes and, of course, fabulous fashion finds!
This week, I swapped the picturesque hills of Derbyshire for the bustling energy of London town. The journey by train is always such a delight – I adore gazing out at the passing countryside, spotting fluffy sheep in emerald fields and picturesque villages nestled amongst rolling hills. This time, I even had the joy of sharing a carriage with a couple of lovely gentlemen in suits, all of whom couldn't resist grinning at my perfectly pink tutu! (Who can blame them, right?)
Anyway, on arrival at Kings Cross, I was met with the familiar buzz and bustle of London. This city truly comes alive in the heart of the week! My first order of business? A delicious, warm cup of tea (English Breakfast, naturally) and a hefty slice of Victoria sponge in the grand cafe at the station. Oh, how I adore that cafe – with its vintage charm, friendly faces, and, of course, its delectable, classic cakes. You’ve never had proper cake until you've had a slice at a traditional London cafe, let me tell you.
Feeling refreshed and caffeinated, I set out to explore the city. As any seasoned London adventurer knows, the Underground is a wonderful, quirky, and often rather crowded mode of transportation! Thankfully, the locals were wonderfully accommodating when they noticed my striking pink tutu. It seemed everyone wanted to join the “Pink Tutu Movement,” if only for a fleeting moment! My mission to spread the joy of pink tutus is certainly going well.
Theatre, Toilettes and Tea Rooms
Friday evening was a night for the arts. After grabbing a yummy little pot of "fish and chips" for dinner (truly the ultimate comfort food), I dashed to the West End to witness a delightful production of The Phantom of the Opera - truly a masterpiece. You can always rely on this show to transport you to another world. I was mesmerised by the grand costumes, the incredible vocals, and the utterly beautiful musical score. After the final curtain call, my friend Lucy (who always insists on wearing a pink tutu to the theatre!) and I celebrated with a decadent cocktail at a chic cocktail bar just off Shaftesbury Avenue.
The next morning, we had breakfast at a delightful little tearoom hidden away on a side street. We shared a plate of scones with jam and clotted cream, along with steaming pots of strong black tea. A delightful morning for catching up and planning the day's adventure.
Saturday saw us visiting the National Gallery. I'm always so in awe of the paintings there. Their grandeur and the beauty captured on canvas is truly captivating. It's just so lovely to stroll amongst them and let your imagination soar. After our cultural visit, we treated ourselves to a shopping spree. Now, you can't visit London without venturing onto Oxford Street and I was not going to miss the opportunity. From high-street delights to exclusive boutiques, London's shopping scene is unparalleled. Of course, my top pick? A beautiful pale pink lace bolero with matching gloves that will perfectly complement my tutu collection. It's a real treat to find the perfect accessory.
After an exhausting day of shopping and culture, we capped it off with a fabulous dinner at a vibrant Moroccan restaurant in Notting Hill. The scents, the vibrant decor, the exquisite food – a feast for all the senses! We couldn’t resist adding a little sparkle to the night by doing a few impromptu twirls around the restaurant floor, showing off the shimmering sequin details on our tutus.
A Ballerina's Day Out
Sunday brought with it the quintessential British weather - grey skies, a touch of drizzle, but the occasional ray of sunshine peeping through. I wouldn't have it any other way, as the slightly melancholy atmosphere matched the romanticism of the London ballet show I was so eagerly awaiting.
A visit to the Royal Opera House is an absolute must for any ballet enthusiast. The beauty of the building itself is astounding, but the true spectacle lies in the ballet performances within its grand walls. Sunday afternoon brought the magical Giselle. A tale of heartbreak, betrayal and a passionate love that transcends the boundaries of life and death. The grace, agility, and expressive storytelling of the dancers was nothing short of mesmerizing. A truly emotional journey!
Finding The Perfect Pink
Now, what's a pink tutu lover's weekend in London without a trip to Liberty? The iconic department store is an absolute treasure trove of pink goodness! Every shade, every texture, every possible iteration of pink is lovingly displayed amongst the intricate, floral patterned fabrics. You truly feel as if you’ve stepped into a wonderland of colour and creativity. After admiring the kaleidoscopic display, I indulged in a delicate little tea set featuring my beloved pink roses. Such a beautiful piece to remember my delightful weekend.
But my London adventure didn’t end there. To ensure a truly pink-tastic farewell, I ventured out to a fabulous pink-themed cafe. It’s called "The Pretty in Pink" cafe. You can imagine my delight! It's a must for anyone with a love for pink. Every nook and cranny is drenched in shades of rose and fuchsia – the walls, the furniture, even the teacups! A real delight!
