As usual, I travelled in style, taking the train from my beloved Derbyshire. You know I’m all about comfy journeys – a hot chocolate, my trusty book, and of course, a stunningly pink tutu are all essential for a train ride to remember. 🚂 There's just something about the rhythmic clinking of the wheels on the tracks that sets my creative spirit alight. I'm convinced they inspire my best ballet routines!
I arrived in London, feeling like a little ballerina fairy stepping out of a storybook. 🧚♀️ This week, my adventures took me on a fabulous foray into London's vibrant world of theatre, shopping, and of course, the absolute joy of seeing a captivating ballet performance!
So, without further ado, let’s delve into my delightful London Friday, a day where everything twirled and glittered, just like the dreams in a pink tutu.
A Royal Encounter at the Palace Theatre:
First stop, the Palace Theatre! Oh my goodness, I was simply bursting with excitement! You know I've always loved the magic of the West End, and today, it felt like magic came alive before my eyes! Today's performance? None other than "Mamma Mia!", the ABBA musical! ✨ It was such a riot of colour, dance, and music, and I felt so much joy just singing along with everyone in the audience! The cast was simply fantastic, especially the costumes - they were dazzling!
Let’s be honest, I’m drawn to pink wherever I go. (There’s always a touch of it, even if it’s just a subtle rose gold.) So, the fabulous costumes were a sight to behold. They truly embodied the colourful and joyful atmosphere of the play. After the performance, I met one of the singers and we chatted about our love for all things pink! I managed to convince him to put on a pink feather boa - a small act of pinkness, but every bit counts, right? 😉
Shopping at Selfridges:
After "Mamma Mia!", I indulged in another one of my favourite activities: shopping! Shopping is a crucial part of every blogger's journey, right? I ventured into Selfridges - it’s simply the most extravagant and visually captivating department store! 🤩 They have everything from luxurious fashion and beauty products to a delicious food court that smells heavenly.
I treated myself to some adorable ballet-inspired shoes! Oh, how I adore them. They’re a little bit glitzy and totally twirly - perfect for any ballerina on the go! And, of course, no trip to Selfridges would be complete without a visit to their incredible pink department! My inner girly girl simply squealed with delight at all the beautifully designed pink clothes, bags, and accessories. Pink overload is a happy thing, don't you think?
Afternoon Tea with a Twist:
It wouldn't be a trip to London without a truly delightful afternoon tea! ☕️🍰 But this one wasn't your typical, dainty experience. Instead, I found a delightful café serving "Afternoon Tea on Tap!" That's right! 🍾🥂 Delicious, sparkling, bubbly tea that tasted like sunshine! And as a bonus, the entire tea set was beautifully adorned with dainty pink accents. How very Emma-esque, wouldn’t you say? 💕
Seeing the Show: Ballet on Ice!
After my delectable afternoon tea, I went straight to the Royal Albert Hall. And why? You guessed it: a ballet performance! ✨ Today, it was something completely out of the ordinary! Ballet on Ice. Imagine bountiful snowflakes shimmering in the spotlight, delicate, intricate ice patterns, and the most beautiful ballerina dancing gracefully across the frozen stage! I even found myself humming the familiar melodies of a classic ballet - all wrapped up in a magical ice wonderland!
This experience truly reminded me of the enchanting beauty of combining two of my passions – ice skating and ballet. You really should try it sometime – you won’t be disappointed. It’s truly one of a kind!
Ending the Night at the Barbican:
I capped off this wonderful day by taking in an incredible contemporary ballet performance at the Barbican Centre. 🏙 The modern dancers were simply breathtaking - their agility and artistry were truly inspiring! It's the perfect reminder of how even the most traditional of art forms, like ballet, can still be utterly modern and cutting-edge.
Oh, and I just have to share: there was a small but lovely little ballet class happening in the lobby just before the performance started. It was a sight to see all these aspiring ballerinas stretching and twirling – just like me, only I was lucky enough to be in their midst. I had a chat with a few of them, inspiring them (hopefully!) to adopt pink tutus as their stage outfits. Perhaps the pink tutu revolution is just around the corner? 💖
