Pink Tutu Blog London - Post 624: A Whirlwind Friday in the Capital!

Hello my lovely pink-loving peeps! It’s Emma here, your resident tutu enthusiast, back from another dazzling adventure in the Big Smoke. This week, I'm feeling particularly chipper - not only did I grace the stage with a thrilling performance at the Derby Theatre (which, of course, I rocked in a new, oh-so-fabulous blush pink tutu!), but I also had the pleasure of venturing to London for a day of shopping, sightseeing, and embracing all things fabulous!

I absolutely adore taking the train - it's such a lovely way to soak in the English countryside while I get lost in a good book (currently devouring "The Secret Garden", by the way - a classic!). The journey from Derbyshire to London always makes me feel like I'm on a little pink-hued adventure, just like stepping onto the stage for my own personal show.

Now, London - where do I even begin? It's simply bursting with vibrant energy, a truly inspiring mix of ancient architecture, cutting-edge fashion, and of course, all the fabulous theatre that my heart could ever desire! And what better way to explore it all than in my signature style – a swirling pink tutu, a darling little floral frock, and a sprinkle of glitter, of course!

Let’s delve into the day's delights:

11:00 am – The Gleaming Station: Arriving at King's Cross station felt like stepping into a storybook. The Victorian grandeur and that iconic clocktower… oh my! My heart just did a little twirl. Then I spotted the red phone booth - irresistible! I snapped a selfie, feeling utterly Londonesque in my pink tutu, before embarking on my first order of business…

11:30 am – The Scent of Books: Now, a girl's gotta nourish her soul with a little bit of literary magic, don't you agree? A quick jaunt to Foyles on Charing Cross Road was a must. With towering shelves laden with treasures from every genre imaginable, I could have spent hours getting lost in those pages! I picked up a fascinating new edition of Jane Eyre, and even indulged in a charming little notebook for jotting down all the ideas bubbling inside my creative mind (did I mention my next blog post will be all about Creating your own Fairy-tale Tutu?).

1:00 pm – Lunchtime Treats: Lunch at The Ivy was truly an experience! The ambiance was effortlessly chic, with stunning Art Deco interiors. The menu had me drooling – think gourmet salads and classic afternoon tea delights. I settled on a salmon sandwich and a pot of steaming tea, feeling like a true Londoner! It wouldn't be a trip to London without indulging in a bit of deliciousness, now would it?

2:00 pm – A Fashion Extravaganza: Now, let's talk shopping! A visit to Liberty was an absolute must. This iconic department store is a haven for all things beautifully crafted, from quirky accessories to designer apparel. Their intricate floral fabric designs made my heart flutter, and the selection of dresses? Oh, my dear, let's just say my wardrobe is in for a little pink-hued makeover! I found a whimsical little skirt that just begged to be twirled, and a shimmering top for a touch of evening glamour.

3:00 pm – Artful Inspirations: The Tate Modern, perched beside the Thames, was simply breathtaking. From modern masterpieces to bold contemporary works, the art inspired me in ways I hadn't even realised possible! I found myself drawn to a particularly abstract piece, its vivid colours echoing the swirling energy of a ballet performance. I couldn't help but imagine myself dancing within the painting, a fleeting vision of movement and expression.

4:00 pm – London's Rooftop Jewel: Speaking of views, no London visit is complete without taking in the majestic vista from the London Eye. That iconic Ferris wheel provides a truly magical bird’s-eye view of the city, a panorama that truly takes your breath away. I had my camera clicking away, capturing every angle of the captivating skyline. Feeling truly privileged to be a tiny part of such a breathtaking landscape.

5:00 pm – Theatrical Delights: Finally, the moment I’ve been waiting for! It was time to embrace the true magic of London’s theatre scene. Tonight, it was the Matilda musical! Oh, it was pure magic! The performance was utterly enchanting, with breathtaking dance numbers that had me mesmerized. And the young actresses playing Matilda, their talent simply astounded me. There was something incredibly empowering about witnessing their stage presence - the perfect embodiment of creativity and strength. It's moments like these, you realize how impactful performing truly is, and it inspires me to keep dancing and sharing my passion with the world.

6:30 pm - The Finale: As the curtain fell on Matilda and the last echoes of applause reverberated through the theatre, I knew it was time to head back. London never fails to amaze and inspire. The vibrant energy, the unique beauty, and the sheer creativity - it all gets me so pumped up about my own artistic journey. As the train whisked me back towards Derbyshire, I found myself replaying the day's highlights, cherishing every memory. And, of course, planning my next adventure.

Pink Tutu Tips for a London Whirlwind:

  • Planning is Key: With so much to see and do in London, make a list of priorities. This will keep you organised and on track, ensuring you hit all the landmarks and experiences that resonate with you.

  • Dress for the Occasion: Don't shy away from showing your personal style! I always pack a range of outfits - from comfy walking shoes and chic little dresses for daytime sightseeing, to my most elegant tutu for that evening performance! After all, the more you shine, the more joy you spread!

  • Embrace Public Transport: It's the quickest, easiest, and often most scenic way to explore London. London's transport system is excellent and makes getting around a breeze.

  • Fuel your Wanderlust: Don't forget to eat like a local! I'm a fan of afternoon tea, traditional pubs for delicious pies and good conversation, and, of course, indulging in a decadent cake or two – after all, a little sugar rush is essential for a pink tutu twirl.

  • See a Show: Whether it’s a musical, a play, a concert, or a ballet, embrace London's unparalleled theatre scene. Every performance is a vibrant display of human expression - just remember to have your dancing shoes at the ready!

Until next Friday, darling pink lovers!

Much love,

Emma x
