Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! #649

Friday, 6th February 2009

Good morning, darlings! It's Friday, which means it's time for another London adventure from your favourite pink tutu-clad blogger!

The crisp Derbyshire air felt rather nippy this morning, but I knew the warm glow of London awaited. It's a good thing I packed my trusty pink bobble hat, which, of course, coordinates perfectly with my powder pink ballet cardigan, adding a touch of springtime elegance to the wintery morning. And then there's the tutu! My favourite โ€“ the one with the swishing tulle layers in shades of pink and pearl โ€“ made an appearance, its soft ruffles making me feel like a fairytale princess, even amongst the throngs of commuters on the train.

My trusty train ticket was already in hand, tucked in the little pocket of my bright pink handbag (that matches my shoes, of course!). I adore train journeys โ€“ the rhythmic clickety-clack, the anticipation of arriving in a new and exciting place, the glimpse of countryside whizzing by... it's just pure magic!

London Station was bustling with activity โ€“ people rushing, suitcases bumping, the sound of the announcements reverberating through the grand hall. But, as always, my pink tutu made me feel special. I can't explain it, but when you're wearing a pink tutu, even the dreariest commute becomes a glamorous, ballerina-esque journey.

Today, my London daytrip had a little extra sprinkle of excitement โ€“ a ballet matinee! It was a must-see performance: the Royal Ballet at the Covent Garden, a treat I'd been eagerly awaiting. Imagine my delight when I discovered it was Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake. One of my all-time favourite ballets! I felt butterflies in my stomach, knowing I was about to witness the grace and artistry of the world's finest ballet dancers.

After the show, I couldn't resist a quick pop into the Royal Opera House shop. I mean, a visit to Covent Garden is just begging for a little retail therapy, don't you think? I found the most exquisite pair of ballet shoes โ€“ soft pink satin, with a little crystal embellishment, and oh-so-elegant! My wallet was lighter, but my spirit was lifted โ€“ after all, a good ballet-inspired wardrobe update is always worth the splurge.

Dinner was a delightful affair at a charming little bistro in Covent Garden โ€“ creamy pasta and a glass of pink bubbly. Everything just felt perfect, like the ending to a charming movie. The only thing missing was the twinkling lights of a carriage ride back home, but, alas, Derbyshire was calling.

Speaking of the train ride home, it was just as magical as the one in the morning โ€“ the glow of the city lights reflected on the window panes, adding a touch of romance to the journey.

Now, tucked up in my Derbyshire cottage, surrounded by piles of pink tulle and sketches for my next tutu designs, I'm feeling that post-London daytrip bliss. It was truly a wonderful day, full of inspiration, laughter, and a touch of pure ballet magic!

But hey, you don't have to wait until Friday to feel a bit of London charm. Why not put on your favourite pink tutu, dance around your kitchen, and let the joy of movement carry you away? And remember, my dear readers, a little pink never hurt anyone โ€“ it just adds a bit of sunshine to any day!

I'll be back next Friday, with more pink-tastic London adventures! Until then, twirl on!

More About This Friday:

The Royal Ballet at Covent Garden, presenting Swan Lake on February 6th 2009. This would've been a special performance, with the iconic ballet taking the stage for a special matinee.

Swan Lake, with its poignant story and the duality of the White Swan and Black Swan characters, is often cited as a classic of the ballet repertoire. A perfect fit for Emma's love of both the performance art and the whimsical romance of ballet.

  • About Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake: Swan Lake was written in the late 1800s, making it a cornerstone of ballet history. The famous "Dance of the Little Swans" would have certainly brought Emma much joy, as she often performs the iconic routine in her own ballet classes.

  • Covent Garden in London is a hub for the arts, particularly for dance and opera. As one of the world's premier performance venues, Emma likely wouldn't have missed a chance to witness a show like this, adding another element to her glamorous and artsy London journey.
