Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! (Post #652)

Friday, 27th February 2009

Oh, hello darlings! It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu aficionado, reporting live from the dazzling metropolis that is London! After a rather enchanting train journey from my quaint little Derbyshire home, Iā€™ve finally landed in the heart of this magnificent city, ready to embrace all its vibrant delights. This Friday marks my weekly rendezvous with you all on PinkTutu.com, and what better way to celebrate than with a whirlwind tour of London town, Pink Tutu in tow, naturally!

As you know, I'm a huge fan of travelling by train, the rhythm of the tracks, the changing scenery, and the quiet time to contemplate my sartorial choices (today itā€™s a bubblegum pink tutu with a vintage brocade jacket, by the way ā€“ I think the perfect balance of classic and whimsy).

It's funny how the excitement builds the closer you get to London. The anticipation is a little like waiting for the final curtain to rise at a dazzling ballet performance! Speaking of ballets, that's how I finance my London escapades! My love of dance allows me to explore this fabulous city and share my experiences with all of you.

The Royal Opera House: Where Elegance Meets Grace

My first stop is always the Royal Opera House! The sheer grandeur of this iconic venue always takes my breath away. The moment I step inside, I feel transported to another era of grace and elegance. It's a symphony of artistic wonder, with intricate chandeliers, opulent decorations, and the unmistakable scent of history. The atmosphere crackles with the excitement of the performance to come, a delicious blend of nervous energy and anticipation. Todayā€™s show is ā€œSwan Lake,ā€ and I canā€™t wait to see it!

Shopping Therapy: From Covent Garden to Bond Street

No trip to London is complete without a dose of retail therapy. First, I head to Covent Garden, a hub of eclectic charm with bustling street performers, a lively market, and, best of all, gorgeous little boutiques filled with treasures! I found the most delightful shop overflowing with vintage hats, each one more glamorous than the last.

Next up, I sashayed to Bond Street, Londonā€™s answer to chic! The luxurious storefronts, a feast for the eyes, each one an architectural masterpiece! I canā€™t resist slipping into one or two, dreaming of a day when I can purchase that designer outfit Iā€™ve been lusting after. But for now, a little window shopping is good enough!

The Theatre District: Where Stories Come Alive

I'm absolutely smitten with Londonā€™s theatres! Today, the West End is alive with dazzling performances, a theatrical feast for the senses! I can practically hear the roars of laughter from a nearby comedy show, and I glimpse the romantic silhouette of a couple silhouetted against a theatre poster ā€“ the magic of the London theatre is undeniable.

A Nighttime Ballet Extravaganza

Finally, the day culminates in a thrilling performance at the Sadlerā€™s Wells theatre! Tonight, Iā€™m catching the world-renowned Rambert Dance Company performing a contemporary ballet. The performance is truly breathtaking; a celebration of athleticism, artistry, and sheer passion. It leaves me filled with such wonder and inspiration that I practically float out of the theatre and back into the magical London night.

Finding Pink Tutu in London:

While the vibrant red double-decker buses and iconic landmarks might be what come to mind when you think of London, my focus, naturally, is on discovering pink tutus in the city! My first pink tutu mission this time around is a visit to the Covent Garden market! The bustling atmosphere, a carnival of colours and sounds, makes me giddy with delight. The market boasts charming independent stalls where Iā€™m able to hunt down some truly unique vintage treasures. After sifting through an abundance of colourful fabrics, antique buttons, and delicate lace, I discover a tiny shop filled with charming frilly tutu tutus, perfect for a vintage look! I decide to purchase a soft pink tulle tutu for a classic touch and an array of bright pink tulle for a bit of DIY tutu crafting when I get back home.

Dinner & Dancing: The Perfect Ending to a London Day

To end the day, I head to the chic, retro-style diner just around the corner from my hotel. Their milkshakes are heavenly! After, I treat myself to a spontaneous trip to a jazz club for some impromptu dance moves. The music has a lovely swing, and thereā€™s a lovely energy in the air. The music just compels me to sway and spin!

Reflections on a London Day:

As I finally slip into my pink tutu and comfy clothes for a restful night's sleep, I canā€™t help but feel a little bit of sadness that the day is over. Iā€™m already looking forward to tomorrowā€™s adventures, a trip to a museum, a leisurely walk along the Thames, maybe a little more shopping, who knows?! One thing's for sure: my time in London always seems to pass in a blink!

Remember, you can find my weekly blog posts here at www.pink-tutu.com, every Friday. Join me in this adventure, share your favourite London experiences in the comments, and maybe, just maybe, I'll inspire you to don a pink tutu of your own! Until next week, darling!

Love & Pink Tutu,

Emma
