Pink Tutu Blog London: #667 - A Whirlwind Friday in the Capital
Hello my darling dears, and welcome back to Pink Tutu Blog! It's Friday, the 12th of June 2009, and I'm bursting with excitement to tell you all about my latest adventures in the dazzling, delightful city of London!
As you all know, London is a bit of a second home for me. It's the perfect blend of historical charm, buzzing energy, and of course, phenomenal fashion! It also just so happens to be a ballet paradise! Every time I come to this gorgeous city, I get so inspired by the incredible theatre shows and the fabulous dancers I see on stage and in the street!
This trip I decided to make it extra special by arriving in style - by train! I absolutely adore train journeys, especially when it comes to travelling to London. There's just something so glamorous and elegant about hopping on a train in my favourite pink tutu, watching the scenery whisk past, and arriving at King's Cross feeling completely revitalised. This week, however, I wanted a little extra 'pink magic' on the train. So I whipped up a surprise!
I packed a whole 'pink-tastic' hamper with pink ribbon, fairy lights, pink balloons, pink cupcakes and a pink picnic blanket - I even made pink tulle 'crown' for myself. And you wouldn't believe it, I had the whole carriage giggling! There is something absolutely magical about making a simple train journey extra special!
As soon as I arrived, the aroma of London instantly hit me. It's such a unique, heady blend of freshly-cut flowers, street food, and a touch of history โ utterly delightful.
I knew exactly where I wanted to go first - Liberty! I adore its beautiful, Victorian architecture and the enchanting interior is always a joy to wander through. Not to mention the absolute dream of clothing, jewellery and home decor!
Today, they had the most glorious collection of hand-crafted pink silk scarves with intricate embroidery, which of course, were making their way into my basket! I couldn't resist a little peek at the vintage perfume collection, which always reminds me of another era and I bought a bottle of rose and patchouli eau de parfum - it's simply divine.
My afternoon was dedicated to pure ballet indulgence! After a quick but scrumptious lunch at a charming little cafรฉ near Covent Garden - all pink and white decor, naturally - I headed to the Royal Opera House.
I've got to tell you, I felt like a princess stepping into a dream world as I walked through those doors. There's something magical about being in such a historic, beautiful space and surrounded by people who share my love of ballet! And today, the performance was just as magical as the theatre itself.
"Giselle" - oh my dear darlings, it was utterly spectacular! The story, the costumes, the choreography, the artistry... simply breathtaking! It took me on a whirlwind of emotion - laughter, sorrow, joy - and I could feel myself falling in love with ballet all over again. And let's not forget those incredible ballerinas and their exquisite pink tutus! It was truly a performance for the ages!
For a quick dinner, I went to a lovely little restaurant called The "Pink Pea" . Everything there was in different shades of pink, which of course I absolutely loved. The owner is the biggest tutu enthusiast! We had the most amazing conversations, swapping stories about our ballet inspirations and experiences. He even had a photo of himself as a little boy wearing a pink tutu in his ballet studio!
Then it was on to the theatre to see a performance of "Mamma Mia!" The energy and joy were infectious. And who can resist singing along to those Abba classics! The soundtrack really got my feet tapping and made me want to spin around the stage. I definitely got a feeling of ballet on the street there too - that's the magic of this city! You can find inspiration and beauty everywhere, even in the middle of a crowded theatre!
My day ended in a little haven - the Victoria's Secret store. I confess, there's just something so joyful about walking into that shop and breathing in the intoxicating smell of perfume and silk! It felt like I was in a pink dream world - soft lace lingerie, satin sleepwear, and everything so utterly girly and glamorous. Of course, I came out with a beautiful pink robe and a matching silk sleep mask โ it was just impossible to leave without them!
My train journey back to Derbyshire tonight will be extra special because I have a few new additions to my tutu collection to show you next week. I am especially excited to share my new silk rose print tutu with a matching pink ribbon crown for my hair - I think it might be my favourite yet!
So, as the night arrives in London, and the lights begin to twinkle, I say goodnight to this whirlwind Friday. I already can't wait to explore this enchanting city all over again, but until next time darlings, take care, and don't forget - wear your pink tutus loud and proud!
Lots of love, Emma xx www.pink-tutu.com
