Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! (Post #672)
Hello darlings! It's Emma here, back from a whirlwind weekend in fabulous London town! As you know, my love affair with the city never ends. It's always buzzing with excitement, brimming with fashion inspiration, and simply bursting with the most magical of shows. This week, I hopped on the train from Derbyshire, tutu packed and ready for some serious London fun.
The train journey, as always, was pure delight. The gentle rocking of the carriage, the rhythmic click-clack of the tracks, and the hushed chatter of fellow passengers - it's all so charming! Plus, with my trusty pink tutu nestled in my tote, I always know I'll be a breath of fresh air amongst the usual grey suits and sensible shoes.
Arriving at King's Cross station felt like stepping into a fairy tale. It's a beautiful Victorian station, all vaulted ceilings and intricate details. Of course, Platform 9 3/4 (yes, even a girl as busy as me loves a bit of magic) never fails to put a smile on my face. A little wander through the station brought me face-to-face with a charming vintage poster shop, a haven of forgotten memories and vintage fashion. My eyes were instantly drawn to a beautiful, hand-painted illustration of a dancer in a pink tutu - destiny, I tell you! It was like it was meant to be! It’s coming home with me, and will grace my apartment’s walls soon.
Speaking of the apartment, let’s talk about where I stayed this trip. You guys, it was incredible! The most charming, pastel-pink Victorian flat in the heart of Notting Hill. It felt like I'd stepped out of a Wes Anderson movie, only instead of whimsical symmetry, I had my pink tutu!
Now, onto the real reason for my visit - a ballet show, of course! This weekend, the Royal Opera House was showcasing La Sylphide - a classic I'd been wanting to see for ages. Let me tell you, the dancing was breathtaking, the costumes were magnificent, and the music…well, the music transported me to another world. My inner ballerina was doing cartwheels! Afterwards, I had the absolute pleasure of bumping into a couple of real ballerinas, we had a delightful conversation over champagne (it's a girl’s gotta unwind somehow). You'd be surprised at how many fellow tutudists are in London - we were practically in a pink tutu flash mob!
With a full heart (and aching toes after a impromptu ballet session in the park - because you can never get enough dancing, right?!), it was time for some serious shopping! The iconic department stores were my playground this time - from Harrods with its stunning displays and luxury chocolates to Liberty with its breathtaking, colourful fabrics and whimsical interiors, it was a feast for the eyes. I couldn't resist a new blush pink satin ribbon to adorn my beloved pink tutu and a vintage teacup with a ballerina design (because I simply cannot have enough). And what’s a shopping trip without a touch of theatre? I even caught a matinee showing of "A Midsummer Night's Dream" at the Globe. Watching the play come to life within those old stone walls was simply magical. I might have been humming a bit of the fairy music on the way back to my apartment…
Food was another big highlight. There’s nothing quite like London's culinary scene. From an elegant afternoon tea at The Ritz to a scrumptious breakfast of avocado toast and freshly squeezed orange juice in a quaint little cafe nestled in a bustling Covent Garden market, my taste buds were treated to a sensory journey. It even sparked a creative culinary experiment - a pink grapefruit and honey salad with a sprinkle of rose petals! Trust me, it's delicious, even if I say so myself!
The beauty of London is that you can be strolling through a quiet street one moment, and suddenly you're swept up in a world of vibrant energy. One afternoon, I found myself wandering down Carnaby Street - an absolute whirlwind of colours, vintage shops, and quirky street performers. My pink tutu practically danced a jig along with the crowd! This is the place to go for vintage fashion inspiration and for indulging your inner hipster.
Now, on Friday evenings, London simply shines! My favourite moment was taking a stroll along the Thames at dusk, with the twinkling lights of Tower Bridge and the Big Ben in the distance. It’s a picture perfect London moment! My phone died trying to take pictures (you can only take so many sunset pictures with a pink tutu and still look chic).
Overall, it was another perfect weekend in London! Every moment was a whirlwind of joy, adventure, and fashion inspiration. London truly does have something for everyone - from the elegant to the eccentric, from the traditional to the cutting-edge. And let's be honest, where else can you get a vintage ballerina poster, an amazing show and indulge your fashion sense in one weekend? This pink tutu will never leave the capital!
And speaking of tutus, my mission remains the same – to get everyone twirling in a pink tutu! You'll never regret it. Trust me, the feeling of joy, freedom, and whimsy you get from wearing a pink tutu is absolutely infectious.
Until next week, my lovely readers! I'm off to conquer another adventure, one sparkly tutu step at a time!
