Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! (Post #692)

Friday 4th December 2009

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad traveller, Emma, back with another installment of Pink Tutu Blog - this time from the glorious, bustling city of London!

This Friday morning I boarded the train from Derbyshire with a big smile on my face, ready for another adventure. I love travelling by train – it feels so romantic and gives me a chance to sit back, relax and watch the world whizz by. The crisp December air was invigorating, and even though I had a whole day of exploring ahead of me, I knew I’d be utterly smitten by London.

Pink Power: A London Look

No trip to London is complete without a fabulous outfit. I decided to embrace my inner ballerina with a chic, elegant look, keeping the pink, of course! I paired my new cherry pink tulle tutu with a fitted black turtleneck, my favourite pair of black patent ballet shoes, and a statement piece: a bright fuchsia faux fur stole. This was the perfect combination for a day of cultural delights and a touch of pink sparkle for the London streets.

Destination: Covent Garden

I started my London escapades with a visit to the iconic Covent Garden. The vibrant market is a haven of beauty and artistry, from artisan crafts to fresh flower stalls bursting with colour. I couldn't resist snapping photos of the charming architecture and the charming street performers – some truly amazing talents hiding in the heart of the city!

A Ballet Feast: "The Nutcracker"

The highlight of my London trip? Attending the exquisite Royal Opera House production of "The Nutcracker". The performance was simply breathtaking - I felt transported to a world of sugar plums, magical toys and enchanting storytelling. The dancers were a visual treat, each graceful movement evoking wonder and joy. Every step, every leap, was pure perfection! I particularly loved Clara’s journey into the Land of Snow and her dreamlike waltz with the Sugar Plum Fairy – the beauty of it all almost brought tears to my eyes. I just have to admit, every time I see "The Nutcracker", it strengthens my resolve to take up dancing again!

Post-Performance: Pink Princess Indulgences

The magic of ballet wasn’t just on the stage! After the performance, I rewarded myself with some post-ballet indulgence. London’s gorgeous Liberty Department store called to me like a siren song. It's always a pleasure to get lost in the luxurious textures and breathtaking designs within. I emerged with a stunning pink silk scarf to add some extra feminine flair to my collection – it's going to look fantastic draped around my shoulders!

Fashion in the City:

And what's a visit to London without a spot of shopping, right? It's like my own personal holiday! I took a stroll down Oxford Street – my favourite for a burst of bright, playful, high-street style. I couldn’t leave without adding a new pair of pink glittery ballet shoes to my collection (who can resist sparkle, right?).

Royal Rendezvous: Buckingham Palace

No trip to London is complete without seeing the royal residence! Buckingham Palace looked just as majestic as I'd imagined - a stately reminder of history and heritage. And even if the Queen wasn't waving from the balcony (a little disappointing, really!), I still felt a touch of regal grandeur in the air.

Evening Glamour: Dinner at The Ivy

As the sun set, casting a warm glow across the city, I indulged in a sophisticated evening meal at the iconic The Ivy, London's haven for elegant dining. The restaurant is renowned for its elegant ambience and a star-studded clientele, and I felt truly glamorous in my sparkly pink dress, paired with a black velvet jacket for a dash of chic. I ordered a delectable mushroom risotto – an absolute classic – and a delicious strawberry martini (to celebrate a fabulous London day!).

Pink Dreams in the City

As I gazed out my hotel window, looking over the London skyline twinkling with city lights, I realised how magical this day truly had been. It had everything I love: dazzling ballet performances, decadent shopping sprees, exquisite food, and the exciting energy of one of the world's greatest cities. I fell head over heels in love with London today – and that pink tutu of mine is definitely making a triumphant return for more adventures.

Until next Friday, stay twirling, and never forget: it's a pink tutu world out there, darlings!

Love, Emma
