Pink Tutu Blog: London Adventures! Post 756 - Friday, 2011-02-25

Hello, my darlings! It's Emma, your resident tutu-loving travel enthusiast, and guess what? I'm back in London town! I just had to share the highlights of my whirlwind trip, as this time, it was packed with tutus, theatres, and the most fab shopping finds!

From Derbyshire to the City Lights:

I woke up with the birds chirping (well, probably more like the sound of my neighbours' bin lorry) in my quaint little village in Derbyshire. My heart was already thumping with the excitement of my train journey to London. I can't help but feel a thrill when the train wheels start chugging along, carrying me toward a whole new world of pink-hued adventures. I have to admit, this trip was particularly special because I managed to snag some amazing last-minute tickets for "The Sleeping Beauty" at the Royal Opera House, a dream come true for any tutu-loving ballerina like myself.

The journey was delightful, as always. There's something so comforting and relaxing about staring out the window at the English countryside, the sheep lazily grazing and the trees shimmering with the promise of spring. I spent the journey with my trusty sketchbook, jotting down ideas for my next tutu creation and dreaming about the latest ballet fashion trends. Speaking of, did I mention I have been on the lookout for a perfect, billowing pink tutu with some glittery embellishments for my London escapades? I think I'll be the talk of the town!

London, I'm Home!

I arrived at King's Cross station in a flurry of excitement and took in that intoxicating, quintessential London scent - a blend of bus fumes, coffee, and fresh-baked pastries. As I navigated the crowds, I noticed a group of street performers, dressed as clowns. It made me laugh! Maybe I should give them some pink tutu tips next time I see them - they'd certainly stand out in the crowd with some added tutus!

I always make it a point to treat myself to some lunch at one of my favourite little Italian cafes near my hotel. Today was all about a delectable pesto pasta, with extra Parmesan, of course. Yum! It was the perfect pick-me-up before embarking on my grand shopping adventure.

Fashion in the City

Let's face it, no London trip is complete without indulging in the world of fashion. First, a pit stop at the new boutique on Regent Street, you know, the one that just opened next to the most adorable flower stall (where I may have indulged in a few hydrangeas!). It's been an absolute delight scouring their racks for the perfect ensemble for this weekend's performance - and I have found some real gems. Think flowy, vintage-inspired skirts in blush pink and the cutest little ballet flat-inspired pumps. The shoes alone had me spinning! They even have a whole section dedicated to tutus, and, guess what? They had this stunning, pale pink, ballerina-length tulle skirt. It’s practically begging to be worn at my next performance!

The Royal Opera House, Here We Come!

You can tell by the way I'm grinning from ear to ear, my dear readers, how thrilled I am to be here, finally at the Royal Opera House! I have been counting down the days ever since I secured those precious tickets! After a delicious meal in their cafe (I swear their macarons are divine!), we finally entered the grand hall.

The sheer scale of it left me breathless - all the elegant columns, chandeliers, and the red velvet seats just gave me chills. The magic of ballet filled the air. The moment the lights dimmed and the first dancers took to the stage, I was swept away into the enchanting world of "The Sleeping Beauty." Oh, the grace, the strength, the costumes – it was a visual feast! I can’t get over the intricate costumes. I especially adored the detail of Aurora's shimmering dress, a perfect pink hue, It’s an inspiration for my next tutu project. I can tell you now, there'll be no more dancing in my comfy practice clothes after seeing those graceful movements on the stage!

A Magical Evening Under the Stars:

And finally, I ended the day in one of those beautiful traditional English pubs in Covent Garden with a delicious, creamy vanilla latte (it was absolutely essential after all the ballet-inspired excitement!) I just loved the warm, convivial atmosphere, watching the hustle and bustle of people leaving the theatre and indulging in some late-night snacks and lively conversation. The atmosphere was truly enchanting. And I couldn't have asked for a better way to end the evening - except maybe a small peek at another fantastic ballet performance, but I have to save my pennies for the next trip!

London Calling: A Farewell for Now

Well, my darling readers, that's it for this week! I've got a train to catch back to Derbyshire, and some much-needed sleep. As I bid farewell to London for now, I feel this exhilarating energy of this incredible city swirling around me. I can already see myself rushing to the station with a huge, fluffy pink tutu strapped to my back, my heart full of hope that it will inspire others to wear their own unique and beautiful "tutu selves." Remember, darling, embrace your inner tutu queen - because it's not just about the outfit; it's about confidence, self-expression, and believing that even the tiniest twirl can change the world.
