Pink Tutu Blog London: Post #762 - Friday 2011-04-08 - A Whirlwind Day of Pink & Pearls in London!
Hello lovelies! It's your favourite tutu-clad traveller, Emma, and guess what? I'm back in London! This time I've swapped the quaint Derbyshire countryside for the bustling streets of the capital, and you can bet your bottom dollar that my suitcase is bursting with pretty pink frocks and enough sequins to rival a disco ball!
This week's journey started early. A 5 am wake-up call (brutal, I know) and a cuppa in hand were the order of the day, all fuelled by the excitement of a London adventure. I'm not going to lie, I love travelling by train - there's something so romantic about it, especially when you're wrapped up in a comfy scarf with a good book and a view of the rolling hills whizzing by.
The journey felt like a whirlwind. My ballet performance the previous evening in Derby had paid for this trip, and boy, was it worth it. The energy from the audience had been incredible, and I knew this weekend in London would be filled with even more amazing experiences!
As I hopped off the train and onto the platform, I took a deep breath of the familiar London air, a delicious mix of engine fumes and floral scents from a passing bus. Then I did something I haven't done since my childhood, and took the tube. It was crammed, sweaty, and I felt like I was squeezed in a tin can, but it got me where I needed to be - right in the heart of the action!
My first stop, of course, was Harrods! The glorious facade, a perfect picture of opulence, drew me in like a moth to a flame. Inside, the world was my oyster - sparkling designer dresses, elegant shoes, and, naturally, an abundance of pink, all awaited. I had to resist the urge to buy a little something, knowing I had a show later in the day, and decided to treat myself instead to a spot of tea and cake at the Harrods Food Hall - nothing says "British chic" like afternoon tea with the sound of a live pianist filling the air!
My afternoon was dedicated to something I always adore - theatre. It's funny, how my love for ballet extends to all kinds of performances. This time, I was lucky enough to see a preview of a new play at the Globe Theatre. It was an incredible experience! Being in the historic building with its charming wood beams and feeling the echo of so many brilliant actors from the past was a pure delight. I came away inspired, and couldn’t stop daydreaming about the dazzling costumes and captivating movements of the dancers on stage.
After a quick dinner of fish and chips (because a trip to London isn't complete without a bit of classic comfort food!), it was off to a performance of “Swan Lake” at the Royal Opera House. This was my second ballet show of the weekend, and my energy was already through the roof. But there's nothing quite like watching the dancers bring Tchaikovsky's music to life in a grand setting like Covent Garden! I was completely mesmerized, and felt a pang of envy as I watched them gracefully execute their turns and leaps. It fuelled my passion for dance and ignited a spark of determination to make my ballet dreams come true.
To top off this truly remarkable day, I took a romantic stroll around the Southbank, my tutu swishing around my ankles with every step. I wandered along the river Thames, catching glimpses of the London Eye and Big Ben bathed in the glow of the setting sun. The entire atmosphere was electric, with music and laughter from passersby. There was so much energy, so much excitement!
As the stars started appearing in the sky, it felt like my day had reached its perfect ending. I hopped on the tube, the day’s experiences swirling around in my head like the colours of my swirling tutu.
And what have I learned today, you ask? Well, it’s not just about seeing the iconic sights, it's about feeling the magic of London. It’s the feeling of excitement that sparks as you catch your reflection in a shop window, or the gentle clatter of the train tracks as it glides through the stations. It’s the joy of sharing stories over a steaming cuppa with friends, the awe-inspiring beauty of ballet, and the rush of excitement you get from a delicious meal.
This day, this whirlwind adventure, has left me yearning for more. My love for London, and everything it has to offer, is definitely blooming! I'm already counting down the days until my next visit.
And remember, you don't have to wear a tutu to make your life magical! Just remember to embrace the pink, spread the joy, and go on adventures, whether it's around your local neighbourhood, or somewhere across the globe. Until next Friday, keep those pink tutu dreams alive!
Sending lots of love and sparkle, Emma xoxo
Pink Tutu Fashion Friday:
I was so inspired by the gorgeous performances I saw today, that I felt compelled to share some fashion ideas with you all. Because every true ballerina at heart needs to express their inner dancer, even when they're not twirling on a stage. So here are a few ideas to channel your inner pink princess:
A tutu of course! - Now I know this is the obvious one, but why not embrace it?! Even just a mini tutu, or one with layers of tulle for a romantic and playful look, can totally transform a simple outfit. Think about wearing it with a white t-shirt and jeans, or with a little black dress for a dramatic contrast.
Sparkly shoes! - Let's face it, there's nothing quite as fabulous as a sparkly shoe! I've always loved stilettos or platforms, but even a pair of glittery ballet flats can really make an outfit pop. The secret? Never be afraid to go for something a bit dramatic.
Floral patterns: - Whether you're wearing a dress, blouse, or even a scarf, a floral print instantly adds a feminine touch to any outfit. Look for shades of pink, peach, or even a hint of purple to embrace those ballerina vibes.
Go bold with your hair! - There are so many ways to style your hair for a truly romantic look. Think playful buns, romantic braids, or even some elaborate hair clips adorned with delicate pink flowers. Just remember to have fun with it!
* Pink Tutu Travel Tips for London:*
Now that you're all inspired for your own pink princess adventures, here are a few of my favourite London travel tips:
Take the Tube - While the Tube is a bit of a shock to the system (particularly during rush hour!), it's by far the easiest way to get around. Just download the TFL app for real-time information and route planning.
Pack comfy shoes: - London's cobblestone streets, and those never-ending tourist trails, can really take their toll on your feet! Make sure you're prepared with comfy shoes - a trusty pair of trainers, ballet flats or stylish sneakers - because let’s face it, you'll be on your feet all day!
* Embrace your inner foodie:* London's culinary scene is out of this world! There are incredible food markets (Borough Market is a must!), diverse restaurants, and cosy cafes where you can enjoy a cup of tea. But don't be afraid to take advantage of all the amazing takeaways - London's favourite!
* Don't miss the West End:* The shows and plays in the West End are a must-see, offering an unforgettable cultural experience. Whether you love musicals, comedies, or dramas, there's a show for everyone. It's good to book tickets in advance especially if you have a specific production in mind.
Stay tuned! Next week, I'll be sharing more details about my adventures in London. Think ballet class, a visit to the Victoria and Albert Museum, and the most amazing afternoon tea in a historic setting!
So stay sparkly, keep dreaming pink, and keep dancing.
Until next time, Emma xoxo
