Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! #969
Friday, 27th March 2015
Hello lovelies! Itās Friday, and that means itās time for another Pink Tutu Blog! This week, Iām taking you all on a whirl through London, a city that simply oozes magic. After a fantastic week of performing in my favourite Derbyshire ballet troupe, I hopped on the train, suitcase crammed with tutus (of course!), and set off to the capital for a whirlwind day of dancing, shopping, and all things fabulous!
Now, London by train is something special. There's just something so quintessentially British about tucking yourself into a carriage with a book, watching the world roll by outside your window. Itās a journey that always feels like a little adventure in itself. I can't even begin to tell you the amount of tutus that get a little love tap from the other passengers. Sometimes a little nod or a smile, other times a full-on chat. Who knew a pink tutu could start a conversation?
And as we rattled into London's Kings Cross station, the buzz of excitement just filled the air. I knew, in my little ballerina heart, that this was going to be a good day!
My London Delights
I had a packed schedule planned for the day, and as much as I love wandering around with no fixed plan, this time I needed to be super organised. It's London, after all - I simply couldn't squeeze in everything I wanted to see without a bit of military planning!
First Stop - The Royal Opera House
You can't be in London, darling, and not pay a visit to the magnificent Royal Opera House. For me, itās a pilgrimage of sorts - the home of classical ballet in all its glory.
Today's matinee performance was a true delight: the world-famous Bolshoi Ballet was performing āGiselleā. The graceful movements, the intricate costumes (did I spot a little bit of pink tulle on the ballerinas' skirts?), and the stunning choreography simply blew me away! The music had my whole body swaying in my seat and my mind buzzing with new dance steps to try later.
Shopping Extravaganza!
Now, I'm a girl who knows how to make an entrance, so what better way to embrace Londonās energy than by strutting down Oxford Street in my most fabulous tutu, accessorized with some statement earrings, and a bold pink lip!
Honestly, Oxford Street was a haven of shopping heaven! My bag, which was already fairly sizeable, quickly became overfilled with my latest finds - a pair of shimmery ballet flats perfect for pirouetting around the city, a stunning pink vintage hat for that extra touch of charm, and a gorgeous scarf with swirling ballet patterns. It's a day for colour, and let's be honest - the colour of the season is undoubtedly pink! I did say I was on a mission to get everyone in a tutu, didn't I?
Afternoon Tea Time!
A visit to London would be incomplete without a proper afternoon tea, right? So I indulged in a delectable experience at a charming little cafe in Covent Garden. Scones with clotted cream, dainty sandwiches, and, of course, a pot of fragrant Earl Grey. The delicate china teacups and the genteel atmosphere truly made it a special treat.
Oh, and I absolutely had to take a few pictures with the street performers! London's street performers are something else - a riot of talent, colour, and entertainment. A clown in a tutu definitely got the biggest cheer! (I just love how my love for the tutu is contagious!).
Dancing in the West End!
And no London adventure would be complete without a night out at the West End! This week, I had the joy of seeing āCatsā (and I had a pretty amazing conversation about the show with a lovely couple who were there celebrating their anniversary ā so good!). The theatrical spectacle, the incredible costumes and make-up, the fantastic singing and dancing... truly mesmerising! The costumes are a little different to what I'm used to at the ballet, but I'm already thinking about some dance moves inspired by their feline grace and theatricality. It really got my creative juices flowing!
And So To Bed...
With my heart full of Londonās magic, I returned to my little flat, feeling utterly inspired by all I had seen. It was one of those days that you don't even try to summarise - you just let it soak into your very being and make you appreciate all the good things in the world.
Until next Friday, London lovelies! Iām going to spend this weekend re-imagining my own āCatsā-inspired routine and seeing how much pink tutu goodness I can squeeze into my weekend activities. After all, thereās no limit to the joy and magic a pink tutu can bring to your world, even in Derbyshire!
Until next time,
Emma
