Pink Tutu Blog London: #1011 - Friday 15th January 2016 - London Calling!
Hello my lovelies! Emma here, ready to take you on a whirlwind adventure through the enchanting city of London. I’ve just arrived by train, feeling like a little ballerina princess stepping off the carriage (metaphorically speaking, of course, as my train journey wasn’t quite as royal). My favourite pink tutu, my trusty ballet bag and my suitcase bursting with pretty dresses are all here with me, ready for a day filled with dancing, shopping, and discovering London’s hidden gems.
Now, some of you may be wondering, how does a girl like me manage to travel all over the place, funding her adventures on tutus and toe shoes? It's all thanks to the magic of ballet. By performing in various ballet companies, I've been able to pay for my dreams, and that's where the magic truly comes in. But, there’s also the pure joy of sharing my journey with all of you on www.pink-tutu.com!
London, You're Calling My Name!
Right, let's get back to my London adventure! As I walked out of Euston station, the cool, crisp air felt exhilarating, and the vibrant atmosphere was so intoxicating, I wanted to pirouette straight onto the pavement! But first things first, a spot of lunch!
I was hungry and couldn’t resist popping into a quaint cafe called The Lavender Tea Room near Covent Garden. The atmosphere was straight out of a Jane Austen novel - all chintz and vintage charm, with tables set for tea parties and a delicious menu featuring delicious sandwiches and cakes. I enjoyed a lovely afternoon tea with cucumber sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, and of course, a pot of strong, steaming Earl Grey tea. It was the perfect start to my London adventure!
The Royal Ballet's Spellbinding Story
The real reason for my trip was a matinee performance of "The Nutcracker" at the Royal Opera House, a venue brimming with such grand, historical glamour. I’d been waiting months for this one. From the plush red velvet seats to the magnificent chandelier shimmering above, the whole theatre was steeped in timeless elegance.
And the ballet itself? It was absolutely captivating. The dancers’ movements were exquisite, graceful, and powerful all at once. I felt like I was being whisked away to a world of imagination, with Clara and her Nutcracker Prince dancing across the stage.
And, can I tell you, those costumes were a symphony of colour and beauty. Imagine a beautiful winter wonderland with a sprinkling of delicate snow-white costumes and vibrant candy-coloured outfits, perfect for capturing the fairytale.
Afterwards, as I stood outside, feeling inspired by the performance, the city seemed to glow in the evening light. London, with its glittering shops, historic architecture, and vibrant energy, seemed ready to become my personal stage.
Lights, Camera, Fashion!
Of course, a London trip wouldn’t be complete without a touch of fashion! Now, as all my loyal Pink Tutu readers know, I adore exploring quirky, independent boutiques, places overflowing with unique treasures and styles. I spent hours browsing around Covent Garden, where every shop window was a kaleidoscope of colours, patterns and designs, all vying for my attention. I particularly loved The Little White Dress Company, a shop brimming with feminine vintage dresses and delicate lace, and a quirky hat shop called Beyond The Hat.
It’s true, a love for pretty things is an essential part of my style, but what truly excites me is seeing how people express their personal stories through their outfits. A bold pink tutu on a street performer? Perfection. An elegant Victorian lady sporting a bright-coloured coat and an array of delicate brooches? It’s fashion storytelling at its finest. I found myself enthralled by the effortless style of the Londoners, how they mixed vintage finds with high street finds, and injected their personalities into every look. It’s a truly inspiring sight!
Evening Treats & Dreams of Dancing
As dusk settled over London, I headed to a cosy pub near my hotel called The Coach and Horses for a delicious traditional pub dinner – fish and chips, with mushy peas of course! It was the perfect way to end a day filled with enchanting ballets and a sprinkle of London charm.
While I sat, savoring every bite, I started sketching my next tutu. You see, after a performance or a shopping spree, I always feel a burst of creative energy. This new design, I’m thinking a beautiful lilac and emerald shade, with hints of gold embroidery, is sure to be stunning for my next performance. I can almost hear the applause already!
The day was truly unforgettable. But you know what I’m thinking? It’s only Friday, and there’s still so much London to discover. This city never ceases to surprise me, so be sure to check back next week for more Pink Tutu Adventures from the bustling heart of London!
And for now, dear readers, as the city lights twinkle around me, I can’t wait to share my latest tutu creations and inspire everyone to add a dash of pink to their wardrobes. Until next Friday, remember to dance through life with joy and grace!
With love,
Emma, The Pink Tutu Ballerina
