Pink Tutu Blog London - #1064

Friday 20th January 2017

Hello darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, back with another instalment of my London adventures. I hope you all had a wonderful week, filled with twirls and sparkles.

Train Journeys & London Calling

As you know, my heart belongs to the railways. I boarded the train from Derbyshire, my head full of London dreams, with a suitcase packed to the brim with twirling outfits (I couldn't resist bringing my new cherry-red velvet dress, which is positively screaming for a London photo-shoot!)

My train journey was a delight as usual - something about the rhythmic clack-clack of the tracks against the rails puts me in a creative mood. I whipped out my trusty notebook and jotted down ideas for blog posts and Instagram photos. My mind was already whirling with visions of pink tutus against the backdrop of Big Ben or perhaps a dramatic silhouette in front of Buckingham Palace. I could picture the hashtags already!

London, I'm Home!

I arrived at Paddington Station feeling positively buzzing with excitement. The London air is always exhilarating! After dropping my luggage at my adorable boutique hotel (more about that later!), I set off to conquer the city.

My first stop had to be a trip to the fabulous Covent Garden. Let's be honest, I can't resist a trip to the famous market even if it's just to admire the street performers and take in the electric atmosphere. The smell of flowers and street food is divine. This time, a lovely man with an accordion was serenading the crowds with a rendition of "My Fair Lady" - what a lovely start to the day!

Afternoon Delights in the West End

I strolled through the streets, popping into independent shops to admire beautiful hand-made jewellery and browsing for unique gifts. After a much needed cup of chai tea (with a splash of honey, of course!), I found myself heading towards Leicester Square. The heart of theatreland.

The Queen's Theatre had opened its doors to welcome the latest "The Phantom of the Opera" cast. I was there to see one of my favourite performances - "Thriller - Live!" and it truly lived up to its name. I was totally mesmerised by the dazzling dancing and singing! The energy in the theatre was electrifying, leaving me breathless. You can imagine my inner tutu twirling with excitement!

A Pink Tutu's Dream Wardrobe

You can't visit London without a bit of shopping! I indulged in some retail therapy on Oxford Street, a must-do for every fashionista! I found the cutest pink and blue sequinned purse - I knew it was meant for me. The colour was perfectly in line with my wardrobe colour palette - and it’s going to be my new favourite. And to add some extra pizazz to my already amazing outfits, I grabbed a fabulous pair of pearl and pink-feather earrings to complete the look.

A Day Ending with Theatre Magic

My last stop for the day was a trip to the Lyric Theatre to catch "Wicked" which was on my must-see list. This Broadway classic was even better than I had hoped for. I found myself completely swept away by the storyline, dazzled by the dazzling set design and mesmerised by the incredible costumes. The costumes alone were worth the trip - think sumptuous, sparkling, vibrant. I absolutely adored it, especially the clever staging of the scene in Shiz and Galinda’s dorm - a magical mix of both modern and whimsical that really brought the story to life. I’m a firm believer in believing in yourself, just like Elphaba did.

Ending on a High Note

My evening ended on a delicious high note, indulging in a mouthwatering feast at a cosy restaurant near Hyde Park, with a touch of theatre magic in the air. As I sat there, sipping on my raspberry Bellini and savouring every mouthful, I realized just how much I love London. This city never fails to captivate and inspire.

Pink Tutu Reflections

There’s a reason this is the most loved city in the world and why it’s a haven for performers and dancers - the city itself is a showstopper, a whirlwind of culture, colour, and vibrancy! Every street corner offers a new adventure. As I write this, surrounded by London’s twinkling lights, I'm reminded of how important it is to dream big and chase your passions. London, for me, is a reminder to be bold, to wear your heart on your sleeve (or your pink tutu on your hip!), and to believe that anything is possible.

This city is a treasure trove of creativity and beauty, and I can't wait to share more of my London adventures with you next week! Remember to twirl, sparkle, and never stop dreaming.

Sending you all pink tutus and love!

What to see on 20th January 2017?

This week you could:

  • Take a stroll in Hyde Park and watch the world go by. You can see the Diana memorial, take a ride on a swan pedal boat, and soak up the lovely surroundings.
  • Take a trip on the London Eye. There's no better way to see the city and admire the views.
  • Check out the current exhibitions at the National Gallery. With amazing masterpieces on display, you can really admire and discover some incredible works of art.
  • If you like a spot of ballet, a Royal Opera House performance could be a lovely way to spend your Friday night. "Swan Lake" was showing, the London favourite, but other performances include "Giselle". You could see the world-class talent of some of the top ballet dancers. What better way to see the ballet?

I also like to recommend:

  • You should consider booking tickets for a show at the Shakespeare’s Globe, and be taken back to an era of magic and storytelling in London. With a repertoire featuring the great classics, from Hamlet to Romeo and Juliet. Check out the website for times.
  • If you want to do a spot of vintage shopping on your travels, look for the shops tucked away in Covent Garden. I picked up some fabulous pearl earrings here that matched my dress! I highly recommend searching for those one-of-a-kind pieces, especially if you like your clothes with a touch of vintage glamour.
  • And what better place than Covent Garden to see a street performance. You will find plenty of singers, dancers and acrobats. And of course, the market has some fabulous shops selling handmade crafts, food and clothing - definitely a must visit for any shopaholic

    Stay sparkly!

Love, Emma x
