Pink Tutu Blog London: #1079 - Friday, 5th May 2017 - A Whirlwind Through London!

Good morning, lovelies! The sun is shining, the birds are chirping, and Emma's heart is practically doing a pirouette, because it's Friday! Which, as you all know, means a brand new Pink Tutu Blog London post! 🩰💖

This week, I packed my suitcase with a good helping of my most flamboyant tutus, my lucky dance shoes, and enough pink eyeshadow to see me through a week of London adventures. After all, what's better than exploring a city brimming with culture and excitement? Doing it in a tutu, obviously! 😉

This week, I left my little Derbyshire haven early in the morning, hopping on the train with my favourite travel companions - a hefty tome of classic literature, my fluffy pink headphones, and a generous dose of sunshine optimism. There's just something so magical about train journeys; watching the countryside rush by while lost in a good book feels almost as magical as a backstage waltz before a grand performance.

Now, I know what you're thinking: Emma, London is full of tutus and glitter already! That's true, but who can resist a little bit of pink tutu magic, especially in a city that never sleeps? 😉

And, honestly, nothing could prepare me for the utter enchantment that unfolded as soon as I stepped off the train at King's Cross. The hustle and bustle of the city, the vibrant street performers, the scent of warm bread wafting from the cafes...it was a sensory symphony.

The first order of business? Well, it had to be a good dose of caffeine. London is no stranger to the caffeine enthusiast, but I confess, I'm a bit of a coffee snob. So, I ventured into a little café tucked away in a back alley, ordered a flat white, and took a moment to simply soak in the city. This moment was all about observing, absorbing the energy of the city and plotting the day's adventure!

With a steaming cup of coffee and a pep in my step, I felt ready to embrace the vibrant whirlwind of London life!

Dancing Through London's Theatrical Scene:

First on the agenda? A visit to the beautiful, historical Savoy Theatre. You know I love a good stage show! And today's treat was a show stopping performance of "The Phantom of the Opera". It's a show I've always wanted to see, and it truly lived up to its iconic reputation. From the magnificent set design to the stunning costumes and the breathtaking vocal performances, every detail was a work of art. The sheer drama and romanticism of the story completely captivated me, and I swear, I was humming the haunting melody of "All I Ask of You" all day!

Afterwards, I indulged in a little retail therapy in Covent Garden, a haven for all things fabulous. It was a shopping extravaganza for my inner ballerina, with tutus for every occasion, glittery headbands, and a million dazzling ways to dress up my love for pink! I admit, I even treated myself to a delicate pair of pink ballet flats to dance around London in style! 💖

The rest of my day was filled with a wonderful array of London charm. I enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea, a tradition I simply couldn't resist, at the Fortnum & Mason in Piccadilly. They had so many yummy little finger sandwiches, scones and clotted cream. The tea was even pink! It was perfect.

Of course, no trip to London is complete without a walk through the Royal Parks. Hyde Park was my chosen spot, with its iconic Serpentine Lake, bustling flower markets, and acres of green space, perfect for a stroll with my latest novel. Even though it was a sunny spring day, the park had a calm and tranquil air about it - the perfect place to unwind after a busy day exploring the city.

The evening found me indulging in another London essential: the theatre! It's so exciting seeing world-class talent right here in this amazing city. Tonight, it was the Shakespeare’s Globe for an enthralling production of Hamlet. While the play itself might not have been light and whimsical, it certainly captivated my imagination, with the actors' passion and the beautiful language of the Bard weaving its magic over me. I simply loved the unique intimacy of the theatre, the connection with the performers, the sheer artistry of the whole performance, and the warmth of the evening London crowd. It was an amazing, magical night.

A Pink Tutu Guide To London

I love to share all my finds in London with my Pink Tutu readers. So, here are my Pink Tutu guide tips for this wonderful city. It's no secret, I love all things pink. So, this London blog post would not be complete without a few of my pink picks for you to enjoy!

Pink Tutu's Favourite London Finds:

  • Tea at Fortnum & Mason: Let’s be honest, tea is an absolute must in London. So when you're visiting, make sure to book a reservation at the lovely Fortnum & Mason for a delightful experience. I recommend ordering the Fortnum & Mason afternoon tea; it's divine. The staff are wonderful too!
  • Visit the Royal Albert Hall: It's truly stunning architecture, with gorgeous stained-glass windows and the most unique acoustic in the city. While you are in London make sure to grab a show. Even if it's a ballet. Nothing is quite so beautiful as a ballet show under the twinkling chandelier in the hall.
  • London Street Food Markets: There are so many fun and exciting street food markets popping up all around the city, a great place to grab a quick bite and soak up some local flavour. Check out Borough Market or Brick Lane for some top picks, delicious, mouth-watering goodies!
  • Shopping at Liberty: If you're after high-end fashion, Liberty is a must-visit. This beautiful department store is known for its luxurious selection of clothing, accessories, home decor, and gifts, all in its signature whimsical style. I’d definitely say you could pick up something pink here!
