Pink Tutu Blog: London Calling! (Post #1174)

Friday, 1st March, 2019

Hello lovelies!

It's Friday, and you know what that means… a brand new Pink Tutu Blog post! This week I'm sharing all about my fabulous trip to London! As a Derbyshire girl, London always holds a special place in my heart, and it was even more magical this time because I got to explore the city in all its pink tutu glory.

Train travel is my absolute favourite way to get around. I just adore the romance and nostalgia of it all, plus, the journey is always part of the adventure! The train journey from Derbyshire to London King's Cross is like a fairytale; fields rushing by the window, the rhythmic click-clack of the wheels, and me, lost in my daydreams.

My suitcase was a rainbow of pinks, from shimmering metallic to the most delicate baby pink, all packed with tutu-tastic outfits! It was going to be a whirlwind week of ballet performances, fabulous shopping, and soaking up London’s iconic beauty. I felt a little like a princess escaping to a grand ball, except I knew it was going to be so much more than just a fancy dress!

First stop: A Ballet Dream at Sadler's Wells

It just wouldn't be a London adventure without a trip to the theatre. The Royal Ballet was performing Swan Lake at Sadler's Wells, and let me tell you, it was breathtaking. Watching those graceful ballerinas pirouette and leap on stage, with their costumes flowing around them like the most beautiful clouds… it filled me with a joyous, almost childlike wonder. The entire atmosphere was pure magic, and I caught myself beaming from ear to ear the whole time.

After the performance, I found myself wandering the streets of London, utterly enthralled by the city's pulsating energy. Every corner seemed to offer something new and exciting: gorgeous boutiques overflowing with colourful dresses, charming cafes brimming with laughter, and bustling markets filled with the scent of exotic spices and fresh flowers.

Ballet in the Heart of Covent Garden

Saturday brought me to Covent Garden, a dazzling array of delights. I loved the open-air markets with stalls selling everything from vibrant scarves to handcrafted jewellery, the sound of street musicians filling the air.

But my highlight was discovering a charming ballet studio hidden down a cobblestone lane. I couldn’t resist a little pirouette practice myself, amidst the energy of London, it felt perfect! The studio had a warmth that enveloped you; the smell of fresh wooden floors, the sound of soft shoes tapping on the dance floor. For a little while, London melted away and all that remained was the joy of movement.

Fashion and Frills: Shopping in Harrods

Let’s be honest, a trip to London isn’t complete without a little shopping spree, and for me, Harrods is simply divine. Walking through those massive doors and being met by that opulent, sophisticated atmosphere – pure bliss!

From sparkling shoes to delicate lace dresses, every corner was filled with tempting treasures. I even spotted a delightful collection of tutus that, of course, I simply had to have! Let’s just say my shopping bag was definitely not just a little overflowing, and that’s alright because, as they say, “a little indulgence goes a long way.”

The Thames at Dusk

The iconic Tower Bridge always sends chills down my spine. It stands proud, a testament to the enduring legacy of London's rich history. I strolled along the South Bank, mesmerized by the twinkling city lights reflected in the glistening River Thames. It’s truly breathtaking.

A Final Ballet Dream

My last evening in London was an absolute delight: another magical ballet performance at the Royal Opera House, where I fell in love with "The Sleeping Beauty." Every dancer was spectacular, with movements as light as feathers and grace that left me speechless.

As the last notes of music faded and the curtain fell, a quiet feeling of peace settled over me. It was time to head back to Derbyshire, carrying a heart brimming with beautiful memories of a London trip that had surpassed all my expectations.
