Pink Tutu Blog London: #1210 Friday 2019-11-08: Exploring the Capital in a Swish of Pink
Hello, darlings! It's your favourite tutu-clad travel blogger, Emma, back from a whirlwind trip to the heart of it all - London town! The train journey down from my little slice of Derbyshire was a dream. Nothing beats the rhythmic clatter of the tracks and the sense of excitement building as the landscape transforms from rolling hills to the imposing skyline of London. I popped on my most fabulous pink tutu, of course, feeling every inch the ballerina heading for a grand performance!
First Stop: The London Palladium
This week's trip was all about experiencing the magic of the stage, and I was lucky enough to see "Grease" at the iconic London Palladium. From the moment I stepped into that theatre, it felt like I'd entered a technicoloured dream! The costumes, the dancing, the singing - it was sheer joy from beginning to end! I especially loved Sandy's transformation from wholesome schoolgirl to the ultimate rock chick - a lesson in taking your power back with a dash of fabulous fashion!
And what could be more fitting than enjoying a glitzy musical on a Friday night? It felt like the perfect way to kick off a weekend of exploration and fun. After the show, I was brimming with excitement, ready to explore London with all my senses buzzing.
London Fashion Week - From the Runway to My Pink Tutu
Before heading out, I couldn't resist popping by Selfridges for a peek at the latest trends from London Fashion Week. Now, let's be honest, nothing compares to a custom-made pink tutu (the colour is simply my power colour), but London Fashion Week always delivers incredible inspiration. I snagged a fab pair of vintage pink boots, a stunning broach and some chic polka-dotted tights that would look absolutely gorgeous under a tutu, if I do say so myself! Who says you can't be bold and feminine at the same time?
An Afternoon in Kensington:
On Saturday morning, I took a stroll through Kensington Gardens. There's something magical about the peacefulness of the park - surrounded by flowers, towering trees, and those enchanting bluebells that always remind me of fairytales. The atmosphere felt truly regal, making me want to twirl and do pirouettes in my tutu, even with my picnic basket in hand!
I picked up the cutest, daintiest pink picnic blanket - the perfect excuse to bring out my miniature pink china set, which just screamed vintage chic! (Okay, okay, maybe my obsession with pink goes a little too far. But I can't help it! It makes everything brighter, don't you agree?). I finished off the afternoon with a visit to the V&A Museum - a real treat for a history and fashion enthusiast like me. The exhibits are always captivating and offer a peek into the world of art, design and the evolution of style over time. It’s like stepping into a fashion show that never ends!
Sunday Brunch: A Delightful Parisian Twist
On Sunday morning, I woke up feeling like a true Londoner (well, maybe a little more pink-tutu-clad than most). The weekend was flying by so fast, so I wanted to start the day with something special: a traditional French-style brunch at a charming little bistro called "La Petite Table." Imagine - crusty bread, gooey pastries, frothy coffee, all served with a touch of Parisian flair. I was transported to a little cafe in the Marais district of Paris. Oh, the dreamy details - the delicate hand-painted murals on the walls, the charmingly worn tablecloths and, of course, a little splash of pink to accentuate the already perfect decor.
A Royal Glimpse: St. James's Park
As the day progressed, I decided to treat myself to an afternoon walk through the Royal parks. Now, every princess deserves her fairytale, and St. James's Park offered that in spades! The crisp, clean air felt revitalising, and the lush gardens offered a welcome escape from the bustling city life. It was the perfect place for a twirl or two - I'd even managed to convince a group of tourists to join me for a group photograph - proving once again that pink tutus unite us all!
An Evening of Dance: The Royal Opera House
And what better way to conclude my weekend in London than with a visit to the iconic Royal Opera House? It felt surreal to stand before such a majestic landmark, knowing that history was breathing through the very walls. The theatre is breathtakingly grand and beautifully preserved, creating a truly magical atmosphere. I donned my best pink tutu - I wasn’t going to miss the chance to twirl under the gaze of the theatre’s stunning chandelier!
I had chosen a performance of "La Bayadère," and oh my, was it captivating! The ballerina's grace and agility were breathtaking, and the colourful costumes and majestic stage design created a world of their own. The choreography and music were like poetry in motion. You know I’m no stranger to the ballet world, but this was truly a unique experience. It reinforced how much I cherish this art form and its timeless magic.
Reflections on Pink and the Power of the Tutu:
As I boarded the train back to Derbyshire, I couldn't help but reflect on the magic of the past few days. London, you truly stole my heart! From the vibrant colours of the musicals to the refined elegance of the opera, this city knows how to dazzle. And I had a fantastic time discovering new restaurants, shops, and parks. But most importantly, it’s this feeling that you never truly know what lies around the corner.
So many people looked at me, surprised to see a pink-tutu-clad girl amongst the bustling crowds. But you know what? Each encounter brought a smile to my face. I felt empowered to embrace my unique style and encourage others to find their own expression of happiness and confidence.
Don’t you agree, darling? It’s all about that positive energy - about living life to the fullest, embracing every adventure with open arms. That, my dear readers, is the true magic of pink tutus: the power to unleash the sunshine and magic within, no matter where you are.
Until next Friday, darlings, stay pink, stay fabulous, and never, ever stop twirling!
Love, Emma xx
