#PinkTutuBlogLondon - Post #1263: A Whirlwind Friday in the Capital!

Hello, darling tutu-lovers!

It's Emma here, your resident pink tutu-clad whirlwind, and this week I've been spinning my way through London! Now, as you all know, I'm a huge fan of a good train journey – the gentle rumble, the views flashing by, and the chance to lose myself in a good book. (Although I'm always tempted by the mini chocolate bar selection in the carriage!) My trip to London this week was fuelled by the exciting prospect of seeing a ballet performance – the magic of dance, what else could possibly be better?

This week I caught a early morning train from Derbyshire - a touch chilly, I must say, but with a good pink knit on and a matching tutu underneath, I was warm and cosy in my little corner of the carriage. Once in London, the city pulsed with energy - it always does. I love how a single city can be a tapestry of so many stories. There was the buzz of shoppers, tourists snapping photos of everything in sight, and buskers creating their own musical journeys, each unique and vibrant.

Speaking of vibrant…I had to treat myself to some pink paradise in a gorgeous little shop on Portobello Road – I mean, a girl can never have enough pink tulle! (I think the shopkeeper thought I was a bit eccentric – I probably was! Wearing a pink tutu at lunchtime in Notting Hill definitely gets you some curious stares…but then again, isn't that half the fun?)

After my shopping spree, I felt energised and ready for some afternoon tea. Oh, London afternoon tea is pure magic! Tiny sandwiches, little pastries that melt in your mouth, and an endless stream of delicious, strong tea. All accompanied, naturally, by the clinking of teacups and the soft chatter of fellow afternoon tea enthusiasts.

This week, the ballet performance that got my heart skipping a beat was Giselle, at the London Coliseum. Oh, how the music danced alongside the grace of the ballerinas, each step weaving a tapestry of emotions. There was an exquisite moment where Giselle spins, her tulle flowing out around her like a pink cloud. I nearly burst into applause, but thankfully held it in!

Here's what was going on in London on this Friday in November. I think we all loved the autumnal feels. London really comes alive with beautiful colours and golden light! I grabbed my phone and captured a photo of a couple huddled together on a bench under the golden light of the evening sun. And let's not forget those quintessential red telephone boxes scattered about, adding splashes of colour amongst the autumn foliage.

For me, London is a place where I can fully embrace my inner ballerina, whether it's finding new pink tutus to add to my collection or watching the stunning artistry of ballet on stage. If you're planning a trip to London soon, why not embrace your own inner dance spirit and wear a pink tutu while you explore the city? You never know who you might inspire!

What have you been up to this week, dear readers? Have you had any fabulous shopping sprees? Let me know in the comments below! And until next week, keep dancing your heart out and don't forget to spread a little pink joy wherever you go!

Yours in tulle,

Emma

Pink Tutu Outfit Inspiration!

Ok, let's talk fashion. This week's London look is all about layering for a cozy yet chic feel - perfect for a chilly autumn day.

Outfit Details

  • A vintage-inspired, cherry-pink cashmere sweater from a little boutique on Kensington High Street. It felt luxurious, like a ballerina's cosy treat after a show!

  • A floaty, tiered tulle skirt in a soft, peachy pink. This one's from a London independent store called “The Pink Palace”, a tiny shop filled with dreamily soft tulle and velvet. (They even had a pink tutu to try on! You’ll never guess what I did...)

  • Over-the-knee, suede boots in a warm, chestnut brown. They’re from an online retailer, and the rich shade is perfect for Autumn.

Key Accessories:

  • My signature pink tutu - peeking out under the skirt (you knew it would be there, right?)

  • A chain-link crossbody bag. This one’s gold with a subtle pink trim. I’ve had it for years and it still fits perfectly with almost every outfit.

  • Vintage earrings that were a birthday gift from my best friend – little crystal daisies with gold accents. (Every London adventure deserves some sparkles!)

The Big Pink London Guide - Post #1263: Friday Favourite Find: The Covent Garden Market

This week I was excited to get lost in the wonders of Covent Garden! And it definitely didn't disappoint. I could feel the magic in the air and there was something to catch every ballerina’s eye – and even better, a pink tutu was perfectly acceptable here! Let's talk about why Covent Garden is a must-see when in London:

A Covent Garden Wonderland: Forget the hustle and bustle of London's other areas, because here, time moves to a gentler beat. There’s a buzz of excitement but with an air of laid-back leisure that’s impossible to resist.

*Shop ’til you Drop: * From independent fashion boutiques and artisanal jewellery stands to gift shops brimming with quirky treasures, there's something for every shopper! It's like a whole world of shopping delights tucked away in a beautiful Victorian setting.

*A Stage for Street Performance: * Every corner you turn reveals a burst of creative energy. Street artists, dancers, musicians – it's a constant source of artistic inspiration. Even when it's a simple busker, I am transported.

*Delicious Treats: * Who can resist the temptation of artisanal cheeses, hand-made chocolates, and fresh-baked bread? (Just try to tell me it doesn’t feel like a ballet class, with all these pretty things.) Covent Garden’s food scene is a joy for all the senses.

Fashion Find of the Day: Ok, I just couldn’t resist – at a small vintage clothes store tucked away in a corner, I found this incredible, powder-pink sequin top. It feels like a star-kissed ballerina’s costume, with delicate sequin butterflies swirling across the fabric. The perfect top for a festive night out! And guess what? They had a gorgeous matching pink tutu... It had to come home with me!

*Covent Garden Top Tip: * Try to arrive around sunset for the most beautiful light! And wear comfortable shoes – those cobblestones can get tricky under a full tutu!

Pink Tutu Performance Corner: London Shows and Events!

* Ballet lovers unite! This Friday, we have so much to celebrate. Here’s the hot ticket, I would say, for ballet lovers in the capital, all across this great city of London: *

Royal Opera House This week the ROH is showcasing Swan Lake, the timeless classic ballet. It’s the ballet that captured my heart at just eight years old, so I have to tell you, the sheer romance and grandeur is never out of style. And you have to see the ballerina swans. Breathtaking. The ROH is simply the most iconic location in all of London for classical ballet and their schedule of shows is always filled with excitement!

* Sadler’s Wells:* One of my favourite venues. The space feels very modern and intimate – you feel so close to the action. This Friday they have a beautiful contemporary piece titled Dances with the Wind, that’s been described as ethereal and evocative. I can't wait to experience the magical blend of dance and music. This Friday night there is also an exciting performance from a modern dance group. Their unique take on movement is always a treat! I highly recommend looking up their latest show information if you can.

My Personal Favourite: For something a bit more unconventional, check out the DanceHouse on Bethnal Green Road. It's an independent, community-driven venue that features modern dance, spoken word, and interactive installations. I find the vibrant atmosphere of DanceHouse truly inspiring, with a wide variety of performance art.

But wait, there's more! London is home to countless studios where talented choreographers, dancers, and performers are busy bringing dance to life. Don’t miss the chance to get your dance fix! If you’re feeling bold, why not grab some tickets and join me in a whirlwind tour of London’s dazzling dance world?

London Ballet Lesson – Step 1, Step 2, Let's Take It Back to Basics!

Ok, let's talk technique. I know what you’re thinking - ballerina moves seem super advanced! But here’s a secret, darlings – even seasoned dancers like myself love going back to the basics every now and then. So here is a simple ballet exercise, for everyone – because honestly, why should dancers have all the fun?

Warm-up: Start with gentle stretching. Roll your shoulders, tilt your head, and reach your arms above your head. Don't forget those legs – little swings and stretches.

Let's Tendu: One of the fundamental movements in ballet – elegant, controlled, and just so much fun to do! You can start standing, but feel free to move into first or fifth position!

  • Standing in first or fifth position, slide your working foot back gently on the floor, extending your leg fully without pointing your toes.
  • Hold for a moment then gracefully bring your foot back to starting position.
  • Focus on control – that elegant swish of your foot!

Simple Plié: - Stand with your feet slightly wider than hip width, turn your feet outwards and find a nice, neutral position with your knees,
- Bend at your knees (don’t push them beyond your toes!), keeping your back straight - And slowly push up back to starting position.

Let’s go into the Week:
Now that you're warmed up, you’re ready to explore more! You can do your pliés at home or outside (don’t forget those pink tutus)! It is a chance to reconnect with your inner ballerina. It’s about finding movement in your day! Even the simple act of walking in a ballet-inspired way – graceful, with soft steps and fluid movement.

Remember: Every movement can be an opportunity for elegance, expression, and most importantly, joy!

I love getting to experience the energy and beauty of London. As I always say, with the right pink tutu, you can achieve anything! I will be back again next Friday to share another London escapade. Let's dance!
