Pink Tutu Blog London: Friday 2023-05-12 - A Whirlwind of Pink in the Big Smoke! ๐ฉฐ๐
Hello my darlings! It's Friday again, which means it's time for another instalment of Pink Tutu Blog London! ๐ This week I'm bursting with excitement because, after weeks of dreaming, I finally arrived in the glorious city of London! The train journey from Derbyshire was an absolute joy, with the sunbeams glinting off the rolling green fields and the calming rhythm of the tracks setting a relaxing mood. I was so engrossed in the beautiful countryside scenery that I even finished writing my newest ballet choreography! โจ
For those of you who haven't been to London before, I have to tell you โ it is truly magical! I love how you can turn a corner and find yourself face-to-face with a grand old building or a charming little street lined with colourful shops. It's a constant surprise! And, as a bonus, there are an abundance of pink cafes, shops, and even pink-themed bus stops! It really does feel like a fairytale city. ๐ฅฐ
A Friday in Pink - Exploring London's Ballet World
Today, my lovely London adventure started with a trip to the Victoria & Albert Museum for their Fashion in Motion event, where they put on a stunning performance showcasing the evolution of ballet costumes through history. You can just imagine how excited I was! ๐ The entire exhibition was full of dazzling colours and fabulous designs, and the models were so graceful, it practically felt like watching a ballet performance in real life.
One of the most interesting things I learned about was the significance of the "tutu," my dear, dear friend! Did you know that its first appearance wasn't as a ballerina costume at all? Apparently, the original "tutu" was a loose, billowing dress that was popular in the 1830s! Talk about fashion evolving! ๐ As the styles changed over the years, it got increasingly shorter and lighter, which we can all agree was a beautiful and practical evolution!
Theatrical Delights and a Spot of Afternoon Tea
After the museum, it was time for a bit of a theatrical experience! I decided to head over to the West End, because who can resist the vibrant energy and incredible productions in London's Theatreland? โจ I spent the evening mesmerized by the National Theatre's production of "Hamlet" โ oh my, the raw emotion and brilliant storytelling! It's incredible how Shakespeare's words continue to resonate and enthrall us centuries later.
Following this whirlwind of theatrical delights, I thought it only right to reward myself with a delicious spot of afternoon tea in a traditional London tea room. After all, what's a trip to London without experiencing the charm of high tea? I settled on a cafe with pastel-pink floral wallpaper and absolutely devoured some adorable finger sandwiches, fluffy scones with clotted cream, and delectable little pastries. All washed down with a perfectly brewed pot of Earl Grey tea โ absolutely divine! ๐ฅฐ
Dancing and Shopping until the Stars Come Out
With the afternoon fading into evening, it was time for something truly special - a ballet class at the English National Ballet School. Oh my, my, my! The energy was so invigorating, and the students were just as passionate and graceful as you would imagine. โจ We warmed up with some classic ballet exercises and moved on to a wonderfully demanding choreography. I may be a little sore in the morning, but oh, it was worth every minute! ๐คฉ
Later, after a quick but essential pit stop for a pizza dinner (even a ballet girl needs a cheat day!), it was time for some retail therapy โ and you can just imagine my excitement at this prospect! I made my way through the bustling Oxford Street, eyes widening at every window display. What really took the cake, though, was stumbling upon the most beautiful pink tutu store in Covent Garden! โจ Filled with every colour of tulle imaginable and sparkly embellishments that practically sparkled, I could have stayed there for hours. Thankfully, I managed to exercise some self-control (after all, my luggage isn't infinite!) and came away with two new gorgeous tutus โ one pink, naturally, and a second one in a breathtaking shade of lavender! ๐
As I walked back to my hotel room, the stars were beginning to twinkle above the city, making it all feel extra magical. I can't wait for tomorrow! There's so much more to explore โ a vintage clothing market, the most breathtaking royal palace, and a rooftop restaurant with the most stunning views of the city. Until then, though, I'm off to catch up on some well-deserved sleep, dreaming of my next London adventure! โจ
