Pink Tutu Milan - Post 7: From Derbyshire to Milan - A Ballerina's Dream Come True!

Ciao Bella!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Milan! It's Wednesday, the 26th of July, and the sun is shining brightly on this beautiful Italian city. My name is Emma, and if you're reading this, chances are you're either a fellow tutu-loving soul or you stumbled upon my blog while researching the best pink tutu destinations! Either way, you're in for a treat.

This week, I'm channeling my inner Italian beauty with a splash of pink, naturally. As you know, I'm a girl who lives in her pink tutu, but here in Milan, it's truly my second skin! Today's adventures take us on a whirlwind tour of all things pink and sparkly, starting with...

My Italian Dream

Milan, my darlings, has become like a second home to me. Every time I arrive, it feels like stepping into a magical, glamorous dream. I've been lucky enough to make a few trips here over the past year, performing at some wonderful theatres and enjoying every second.

How did a little Derbyshire lass end up prancing through Milan in a pink tutu? Well, you could say it was destiny. You see, I've always had a deep love for the ballet, from those early years spent twirling around our little Derbyshire village hall to performing for packed audiences at some of London's most prestigious venues. It was actually during a London show, at the prestigious Royal Opera House, where I met my manager. And let's be honest, when your manager is a big, burly chap named 'Big Ben', you know things are going to be good. After my performance, Big Ben took me aside and said, "You know, Emma, you have the talent and charisma to become a star. You need a bit more pizzazz though." And then he handed me a beautiful, sparkling pink tutu. You see, I’ve never owned a tutu. I'm a big believer in finding the perfect tutu, which sometimes takes time. I love the ones that feel special. That's where I first met Isabella, from the amazing Milano Ballet, a truly amazing dancer. It's through her I've been lucky enough to dance on this amazing stage and I'm planning a joint show with Isabella for the Autumn season, if you fancy a trip!

And so, a few months and a few incredible performances later, I was here in Milan, twirling amongst the beautiful people, performing at some of the most stunning theatres. I have to say, my trips to Milan haven’t all been about ballet though.

Exploring the Fashionable Side of Milan

This city, darlings, is a fashion paradise. From the bustling streets of Via Montenapoleone to the chic boutiques of the Brera district, it's a wonderland for every shopaholic's heart. My love affair with pink is amplified tenfold here - everything, from designer shoes to handbags, is available in a dizzying array of pink shades. You can find every shade imaginable; soft blush, bold magenta, neon pink, every colour in between. I've actually purchased my newest pink tutu, here.

One of my favourite things to do in Milan is wander around the shops and admire the craftsmanship, the beauty of the Italian fashion scene is simply magical. When I go shopping, I love finding the smaller boutiques with independent designers - you never know what amazing piece you'll find. Last time, I fell in love with a little store called "Rosa Italiana". I swear the owner is secretly a witch, she knows all the best pink pieces, I kid you not. I walked out of that store feeling like I could conquer the world! It's not just clothes; even my daily routine here is so much fun.

Living la dolce vita

My journey to Milan often starts with a leisurely tram ride. There’s something truly magical about seeing this ancient city come alive through the window of a moving tram. The combination of old world architecture and buzzing street life makes Milan a sensory overload.

And if you ever want to have your morning coffee like a local, I highly recommend stepping into a charming little bar for an authentic 'caffè al bar.' There's a certain je ne sais quoi about sipping your espresso at the counter, observing the bustling life around you, especially with my pink tutu - let's be honest, that just brings out the "la dolce vita."

Then, of course, there's the food! From mouthwatering pasta dishes to the freshest gelato, every taste bud is treated to a symphony of flavours. A pink tutu and gelato? My kind of day.

Let's talk ballet

My travels to Milan, though filled with fashion and delightful gelato, have a deep focus - it’s about the ballet, darling!

Milan boasts some of the best ballet companies in the world. Each performance is a spectacle of breathtaking artistry, a journey through grace, strength, and emotions that leave me speechless. I'm truly privileged to have seen a lot of amazing dancers, their elegance and precision make it impossible not to fall head over heels with ballet. Each performance here is an experience that resonates deeply within me. It's a celebration of the human form, the beauty of movement, and the pure joy of artistic expression. I love ballet and Milan gives me a sense of connection to the wider world. I’m just a small part of a large and thriving community, full of creative, expressive individuals who share my passion.

As always, I love to try new things and have some adventures during my time in Milan. This trip, I had the incredible opportunity to see a street performance by a group called “Balletto di Strada". They were incredible; so full of energy, fun and charisma. This particular group rejects the rigidity of classical ballet and embrace the free spirit of street art. They're like a splash of colour in the city - and they're a little obsessed with pink tutus too, just like me! They’ve got me thinking of new performance styles. I even bought a pair of sparkly roller skates with pink wheels and had a little “skating session” at a local skatepark; they were so cool. Maybe I'll incorporate it into my next performance.

Inspiring the World to Twirl in Pink

I want everyone to feel like a ballerina at heart. I aim to inspire people to embrace their own unique style and twirl around with a playful confidence. My blog is my platform for sharing my passion and, let’s be honest, it’s just so much fun! Every week, I post my adventures from my favourite cities around the world - always wearing a pink tutu of course! My adventures bring so many smiles to peoples faces. When people ask about my pink tutu, my answer is always: It’s simply me.

Every blog post I publish is filled with the sparkle and joy of pink tutus, fashion inspiration, and travel escapades. From sharing my ballet experiences to recommending my favourite shops and cafés in Milan, I aim to spread my infectious love for this vibrant city. And it seems to be working! Every week my little pink blog is getting more readers! This makes me want to push my boundaries even further, create new, inspiring content and give even more tips and tricks about everything that's pink, stylish and wonderful about Milan.

That's all for this week, my lovelies! Remember, the world is your stage - go out there, twirl, and don't be afraid to sparkle! I'll catch you next Wednesday with more Milan adventures.
