Pink Tutu Milan: Post #25 – November 29th, 1995
Ciao bellas!
It’s your favourite pink tutu-wearing ballerina, Emma, back from the glorious city of Milan! I’m writing this blog post as the last rays of the afternoon sun stream through my hotel window. It's been a whirlwind of a week, and oh, it's been a fabulous one!
You guys know my dream is to bring the joy of the pink tutu to the world. Spreading the love of dance, of course, but also celebrating the beauty of individuality, colour, and a little bit of extra in everything you do! This week in Milan, I've realised that the pink tutu fits right in with the city's spirit! It’s a city brimming with artistic energy, incredible fashion, and a touch of whimsy – just like my trusty tutu.
Speaking of my trusty tutu, she's been my companion this whole trip! Let me tell you, the Milanese streets are just made for twirling! The cobblestone paths, the ornate buildings, and the buzz of people everywhere are like a scene straight out of a ballet! Even though I haven't worn my tutu for all of my activities – you'd be surprised at the looks you get when you step off the tram in a pink tutu!
You see, this week, I took my pink tutu on a grand adventure.
Firstly, let's talk about the trams! Now, don't think for a moment I've just hopped on these yellow and green beauties for mere transportation. Milan trams, darling, are a sight to behold. Think art nouveau, beautifully weathered, and smelling distinctly of old leather.
They offer this magical little journey through the city, and with a good book or a chatty fellow passenger, it feels like stepping into a timeless journey! Even the little old ladies dressed head-to-toe in black seem to enjoy the trip – I think I even saw one smile when she spotted me with my bright pink tutu! (I wonder if they would think a tutu looks alright with a pair of leopard print loafers? It must be tried! A little bit of pink goes a long way, you know!)
The first stop, darling, was Teatro alla Scala. Can you believe I actually saw "The Nutcracker" here? The entire theatre was like a dream – shimmering velvet, intricate carvings, and even a tiny chandelier hanging above my seat. I tell you, if ever you get a chance to see a performance here, don’t miss it.
The Nutcracker, of course, was divine! A little more sombre and grown-up than the usual ones I see in Derbyshire, with its beautiful, deep music, but the dancing? Well, it was something else entirely. I nearly leapt out of my seat several times when the lead ballerina danced! Talk about poise, artistry, and passion…
Now, the most important thing about attending ballet is that you go prepared with several options. The good thing about wearing a pink tutu? You are always, by definition, prepared! Now, I'm not just talking about footwear. For instance, it might look stunningly extravagant with a sleek tailored jacket for a La Traviata night. However, when you are dancing around Milan with the sun beating down on your tutu, what's a little more important, is sun cream! Very important, darlings. Don't go forgetting it like some people… Ahem.
After my theatrical treat, the real magic of Milan started. There were little alleyways buzzing with life, filled with food stalls offering all kinds of incredible delights (pizza with a crispy crust! Mmm… I could get used to that!). The scent of bread, the vibrant colours of fruit and flowers... and that energy, oh that energy!
Of course, any journey to Milan has to involve a spot of fashion shopping. Can we talk about the stores? They are incredible! Milan really knows how to combine sophistication and bold colours in a way I have never seen. From Emilio Pucci to Dolce & Gabbana, *the whole city feels like an endless fashion runway! *
I actually found myself gravitating toward a pink hat in a tiny little boutique - but even I had to draw the line! Maybe pink is more appropriate for the hair ribbon, no? Just an idea…
Anyway, one thing I have learnt this trip is that, well, when it comes to fashion, pink really does just… work. Every colour combination seems to work! Pink is like that universal friend you can always count on to make things a bit brighter and a bit more fun! Think about it - there's even pink marzipan! And it's not just the color; it's about the attitude that comes with it, you know? Confidence, a touch of mischief, and always ready to embrace the extra that life throws at you!
Now, what did I buy? Oh, you know me, I couldn’t possibly leave Milan without something! (And don’t tell my mum – I think she might die!)
You know, one of those beautiful straw handbags in a soft lilac - just the thing to complete a summer outfit, don't you think? And guess what, darling? It’s all pink inside. Isn’t it delightful? I think the color really pops against the creamy shade of the straw – perfect to carry my ballet shoes and essentials! Oh, and yes… I bought a pink bow for my hair!
What else have I been up to, you ask? Oh, you know, just living my best life. Walking down streets paved with pink granite (honestly, you wouldn't believe it, you'd have to see it yourself!), sampling creamy coffee in cafes while reading "The Sun Also Rises" so chic! and taking in the breathtaking views of the Duomo – even better at sunset! The whole place really feels like a painting… except more vibrant, and delicious!
But don’t get me wrong, even when I am in a glamorous city like Milan, I still always keep up with my routine. Even a pink tutu-loving ballerina can't live without their regular ballet practice! Thankfully, Milan offers the most divine ballet classes, where I practiced a new series of grand jetés amidst a whole crew of enthusiastic dancers! The feeling of lightness, of effortless movement in a beautiful space - what a wonderful way to spend the morning, I must say. And you can definitely believe I had my trusty pink tutu tucked away safely in my bag. Because I was sure, when I was dancing with the others in my tiny little class… I needed it to add a little magic to the space.
Milan, you see, has it all, darling! Glamour, culture, beautiful streets, delicious food… what more could a ballerina want? Except…maybe more pink.
I hope you’re all feeling inspired by my adventures in Milan! I think I have left a little bit of pink glitter around the city. Remember to follow the pink, my darlings, it will lead you to something wonderful! And don't forget to tune in next Monday to my blog for more updates and adventures from the exciting world of a pink tutu-wearing ballerina. Until then, may your days be filled with grace, twirls, and a little bit of pink!
P.S. Remember, a pink tutu is always good for an impromptu dance, in case you find yourself by a fountain, a busy piazza, or maybe even on a train… 😉
