Pink Tutu Milan: #28 - December 20th, 1995 - Dreaming in Pink, Shopping 'Til I Drop, and Ballet Bliss!

Hello my darling readers, and welcome to another exciting week in my life! This week I've landed in the magical city of Milan, Italy. My pink tutu and I are buzzing with excitement to explore its streets, inhale the fragrant aroma of its famous cafés, and soak up the fashion-forward energy.

As always, let's delve into the diary of a tutu-clad traveller...

A Journey Across the Alps:

It felt like a dream coming true – a journey across the Alps on a luxurious sleeper train, tucked into my cosy carriage with the moon shining on the snow-capped peaks. I always adore the charm of old-world travel, and this was definitely a journey to remember!

Reaching Milan in the soft glow of morning felt like stepping onto the set of a vintage Italian film. The air buzzed with a certain sophisticated energy that could only belong to a city that breathed style and elegance. I couldn't wait to explore!

Fashion, Foodie, and My Pink Tutu:

It wouldn't be a trip to Milan without indulging in a little retail therapy, would it? The moment I stepped into Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a symphony of exquisite architecture and world-renowned shops, my senses went into overdrive! My heart fluttered as I saw the most beautiful shoes, clothes, and accessories, all vying for my attention. I swear I saw a particularly delicious looking pink hat with a plume that was practically begging me to buy it!

And, of course, my trip wouldn't be complete without a delightful, authentic Italian lunch. I stumbled upon a hidden gem of a restaurant tucked away in a quaint alley, where I devoured the most exquisite pasta and savored every sip of creamy latte macchiato.

You can’t go wrong with pasta in Milan. It’s just...delicious! You might find my tutu slightly out of place amongst all the perfectly chic ladies who lunch but they are always happy to share my table. They have even invited me to a very fashionable “brunch" at an art gallery this Sunday. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that they accept me.

Ballet Bliss: A Journey Through Time

The Teatro alla Scala is a cultural institution steeped in history and artistry. It's simply a breathtaking building, both inside and out! As I entered the elegant auditorium, adorned with velvet drapes and sparkling chandeliers, my mind started racing with thoughts of the amazing ballet performances I was about to witness.

I found myself drawn to a modern ballet interpretation of “Giselle”. I can't help but love the classics, and the beautiful portrayal of innocence, heartbreak, and forgiveness through the grace of the dancers simply swept me off my feet! The haunting music, the passionate performance, and the beauty of the movement left me speechless. There are some moments in life that truly inspire you and lift your soul; and watching “Giselle” on this stage was certainly one of them.

As I exited the theater, Milan’s shimmering lights twinkling in the twilight sky, I felt a profound sense of contentment. This was the kind of journey that made you realise what was truly important in life – following your passion, expressing yourself through art, and sharing it with the world.

The Art of Movement and Dancing to Our Own Rhythm

During the day, I am trying to practice a few basic steps in one of the charming little parks. My goal, my friends, is to have a little more "ballet" on my everyday life.

Even outside of the world of professional ballet, the city is bursting with movement. From the effortless way locals glide along the sidewalks to the intricate patterns carved into the facades of historical buildings, every inch of Milan seemed to dance with a graceful rhythm.

As I rode the historic trams, watching the scenery change through my window, I couldn't help but feel that every day was a ballet performance in its own way. From the conductor's movements as he skillfully maneuvered the tram through bustling city streets to the rhythmic clatter of the wheels against the rails – everything had its own unique choreography, and the city became my stage.

Keeping My Pink Tutu Dream Alive

Being a ballerina isn’t easy! Sometimes I worry how I will manage my tutu budget. As you all know, my love for my pink tutus and traveling are a passion. And this is why I believe it is important for me to support my passions with my talent! I’m taking bookings now for holiday party performances. If you’d like me to perform “The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” for you, at your party, then just send me an email at This email address is being protected from spambots. Of course, you will have to invite me to Milan – for a little pre-show celebration…or just an impromptu shopping trip. That is always great for inspiration.

Stay tuned for my next update on Pink Tutu Milan!

Until then, remember to always dance to your own beat and live life with a twinkle in your eye – and a pink tutu, of course!

Love, Emma
