Pink Tutu Milan - Post 27: Whirlwind Wednesdays in Milan! 🩰🇮🇹

Ciao, darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, checking in from the magnificent metropolis of Milan! This week's adventure took me on a whirlwind journey through cobblestone streets, dazzling department stores, and a mesmerising ballet performance that left me wanting more! ✨

The city's energy buzzes with excitement, the air thick with anticipation for the festive season just around the corner. Christmas lights twinkle even in the afternoon, painting the grand Duomo in a magical glow. Milan truly is a feast for the eyes, and today I'm sharing all the fun with you lovely lot! 💖

A Tram Ride with a Touch of Magic

My journey began with a traditional Milanese tram ride. As I glided through the charming streets, my eyes were treated to a colourful panorama of terracotta rooftops, ivy-covered buildings, and the chic boutiques that line every corner. It was like stepping into a postcard come to life!

I have to admit, travelling by tram gives me a thrill. It's not as sleek and swift as a London Underground, but it's filled with so much character! The gentle rumble of the tram on the tracks, the chatter of locals, and the occasional blast of the conductor's horn – it all adds to the experience. Plus, I love people watching – Milan has such an incredible range of styles, from high-fashion divas to effortlessly chic bohemian beauties!

Ballet Bound and Backstage Delights

Of course, no trip to Milan would be complete without a visit to the legendary Teatro alla Scala. Tonight, I was lucky enough to catch "Giselle," a truly breathtaking ballet filled with ethereal beauty, haunting passion, and, dare I say, a dash of romance! 🥰

I just adore the theatre. There's something so special about seeing the performers on stage, feeling the music pulse through your heart, and getting swept up in the story. I've always loved the "Giselle" tale – it's so tragic, but with such a beautiful spirit to it. And seeing it here, in this incredible space with such skilled dancers, well, it truly was magic.

After the performance, I managed to sneak backstage – the nerve of me, I know! But, after my performance at the opera house in Florence a couple of weeks ago, the stage manager remembered my love of all things theatrical. And who could resist the charm of a pink-tutu-wearing ballet fanatic? 😉

He showed me around the behind-the-scenes world, explaining the intricate work that goes into each performance. Seeing the sheer scale of it all was awe-inspiring – from the costume department with its mountains of silk and tulle to the ballet shoes waiting for their next grand entrance. My ballerina heart fluttered with joy. 🩰

Shopping Spree with a Fashion Flair

Who says you can't indulge in a bit of retail therapy after a cultural adventure? I simply had to head to the glamorous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, a shopping arcade that’s both a architectural marvel and a shopper’s paradise!

Think crystal chandeliers, ornate mosaics, and high-end boutiques galore! I treated myself to a pair of elegant ballet shoes – a tiny reward for my successful week of dancing and touring. My feet may be sore after the long rehearsals and the busy performances, but a brand new pair of shoes will have them feeling brand new again! 👠

While I admire the cutting-edge creations on display at the chic boutiques, my love for fashion also finds me drawn to the unique charm of Milan’s vintage stores. From sleek '60s dresses to classic leather jackets with a hint of rock'n'roll, these vintage gems provide endless inspiration for my future costume designs.

And just to stay true to my pink tutu spirit, I also managed to find a pair of exquisite, hand-painted pink opera gloves. I just can't resist a good bit of sparkle, even in a city known for its understated elegance! 💖

Food, Family, and the Feast of Milan

I may be a ballerina, but that doesn't mean I'm not a foodie! Milan boasts some truly delectable treats, from delicate pastries at local bakeries to authentic Milanese cuisine served in cozy trattorias.

Today, I sampled a dish called "risotto alla Milanese," a creamy, saffron-infused risotto topped with a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese. Delicious! I was in pure food heaven. I may be in Italy, but I’ve even found Derbyshire’s famous oatcakes on the menu at a café in the city. Now that’s a treat to keep a fellow Derbyshire lass happy.

And for a special occasion like Wednesday's feast, I decided to celebrate with a slice of panettone, a traditional Italian Christmas bread, brimming with candied fruit and topped with powdered sugar. 🎄 It was a perfect ending to a day full of discoveries and delights!

Milan, a city that never sleeps, but I must rest my tired ballet legs for tomorrow! And I’ve just got enough energy left to tell you all, that you should add Milan to your must-see list – especially for the fashion-loving, ballet-loving ladies among you! I promise you'll be dancing in delight!

Until next Monday, stay stylish and never stop twirling! 🩰💖

Love always,

Emma
