Pink Tutu Milan #46: Ciao Bella! A Pink Paradise in Milan
Buongiorno, darling darlings! It’s Emma here, back from a whirlwind week in the fashion capital of the world - Milano! Yes, my lovelies, I've been living la dolce vita, surrounded by stunning architecture, delectable gelato, and of course, a symphony of fabulous fashion.
This week's post is a little extra special, as it's my 46th blog post! We’ve been on this pink-tutu-licious journey for quite some time now, travelling the globe one dance step at a time, and it’s all thanks to YOU, my fabulous readers.
For those of you who are new to the pink tutu world, I’m Emma, a Derbyshire girl with a heart full of ballet and a closet brimming with pink tutus. My passion for both blossomed in childhood, and now, I combine my loves, documenting my adventures in this weekly blog. From the cobbled streets of Derbyshire to the shimmering stages of grand theatres, I aim to inspire every single one of you to embrace your inner ballerina – even if that means slipping on a pink tutu or two!
So, where were we? Ah yes, Milan! It's been a dream, like stepping into a fairytale of fashion and flavour. Every corner seemed to whisper elegance, every cafe radiated chic, and the city buzzed with a vibrancy that made my heart skip a beat.
First stop: The Cathedral
Now, we all know Milan is famous for its fashion. But my first stop, my lovelies, was a place of breathtaking beauty: Milan’s Duomo, a cathedral of gothic grandeur.
Climbing to the roof, with my pink tutu billowing in the wind, felt like a ballerina pirouetting amidst the clouds. It's a must-see, a masterpiece of stone and artistry, soaring into the sky with the same grace as a ballerina’s leap.
Lunch with a view - the glamour of Milan
Post-Duomo, I wandered through the vibrant streets, a sea of pastel buildings and the aroma of freshly brewed coffee. It was then I found a delightful little cafe called 'Il Giardino dei Sogni', tucked away on a quaint street.
They say location, location, location, and this cafe had it in spades. It overlooked the enchanting Castello Sforzesco, a historic fortress that transported me to a medieval tale. I dined on delectable paninis, each bite an explosion of flavour, washed down with a refreshing glass of limonata.
The view, of course, was the cherry on top. My little pink tutu seemed to twinkle in the sunshine, adding a splash of whimsy to this truly magical Milanese moment.
Sartorial delights – the heart of Milan’s fashion scene
Every fashionista’s dream, darling! The streets of Milan pulsate with the rhythm of fashion. I spent hours strolling along the famed Via Montenapoleone, mesmerized by the extravagant displays, the designer boutiques, and the captivating fashion scene.
Every storefront was a showcase of exquisite craftsmanship, from couture gowns that whispered of dreams, to shoes that could make a queen jealous. I could hardly contain my excitement as I marveled at the creations, each piece an embodiment of artistic flair and sartorial artistry.
And yes, my lovely readers, you can imagine how this girl felt about the Milanese boutiques showcasing tutus! Pink tutus, of course! They seemed to be popping up everywhere, adding a touch of whimsical ballet to the chicest of displays. I swear, there were even tutus in some of the window displays!
Back to basics: A ballet class at Teatro alla Scala
But let’s not forget about my first love, my lovelies - the magic of ballet. After all, it’s this dance form that takes me on these grand adventures, fueling my travel passion. So, a trip to Milan simply wouldn't be complete without a ballet class.
This time, I went to the Teatro alla Scala – the prestigious opera house that is a global symbol of culture and elegance. The very air seemed to thrum with the music of the great masters, I was fortunate enough to attend a class led by one of the renowned instructors at the school of the opera house.
We practiced en pointes and fouetté, all in the elegant ballet space of Teatro alla Scala – a ballet lovers’ paradise. It was a class I'll never forget, my lovelies – the artistry, the passion, the sheer joy of being surrounded by such talented dancers, fuelled my own love for ballet even further.
An enchanting evening - ‘La Traviata’ at La Scala
And what is a trip to Milan without a visit to the world-renowned La Scala opera house? I am lucky enough to have secured a seat to a production of 'La Traviata'. My lovelies, the energy was electric – a masterpiece of emotion and music, told through exquisite singing and heartfelt acting. It truly left me awestruck! The beauty, the elegance, and the story... I was truly swept away by the magic of live performance.
My pink tutu, shimmering in the light, felt completely at home in this exquisite atmosphere. And believe it or not, several audience members even complimented my tutu! They thought it added a touch of playful vibrancy to the grand surroundings of La Scala. Who knew pink tutus could have such an elegant appeal?
Ciao Bella – and don’t forget your pink tutu!
This magical journey to Milan has been a dream come true. I’m already planning my next trip back, and of course, you’ll all be there, virtually, with me. Until then, I’m sending you lots of love from Derbyshire! Don’t forget to embrace your inner ballerina and keep twirling those pink tutus!

Emma.
