Pink Tutu Milan: #65 - September 4th, 1996: La Scala and A Pink Surprise!

Ciao bella! It's your girl Emma from the Derbyshire Dales, here in Milan with my trusty pink tutu and a heart full of Italian sunshine. As you know, dear readers, Milan is the capital of fashion, and I just love soaking up all the sartorial inspiration here! But today's post isn't just about couture and catwalks - oh no, today's all about the magic of La Scala, one of the most famous opera houses in the world!

This week, my diary is brimming with ballet bliss. I performed with the Teatro alla Scala company last night - you won't believe how many tutus were on stage, a total ballet symphony of tulle and glitter! It was so incredibly special. And of course, a pink tutu featured prominently in the finale - the audience went wild!

But my Milan adventures don't stop there. Later this evening, I'm attending a special performance at La Scala, featuring some of the most famous Italian ballet dancers. I've been saving up for this one for months, and my excitement levels are through the roof! My pink tutu will be shimmering under the stage lights as I take my seat amongst the glittering Milanese society.

Speaking of my trusty pink tutu, it's a little tired after the last few shows - it's always such a trooper for me. But don't you worry, it's a tough one, my pink tutu - just like me! After all, a ballet dancer can't wear a tired-looking tutu, so I've found the most fabulous haberdashery shop tucked away on a cobbled back street near the Duomo. This little haven is a dream! Mountains of shimmering silk and lace, rows and rows of beads and sequins... It's just what my tutu needs. Imagine - the perfect shade of pink sequins, delicate handmade lace, and even some sparkling diamante studs to bring out its sparkle! This is what makes Milan so special – every corner offers a new creative challenge, a chance to push the boundaries of what I can do with my tutu.

Speaking of Milanese magic, I simply had to share my exciting new discovery: the Tram 1! This incredible mode of transportation has become my go-to for traversing this fabulous city. The trams are beautiful, like travelling on an old-fashioned trolleybus straight out of a vintage fairytale. Imagine – ornate wood panelling, beautifully stitched upholstery, and bright, cheerful interiors, all accompanied by the soft rumble of wheels on tracks! And, let me tell you, it's the perfect vantage point for admiring the stunning Milanese architecture. I've already snapped some fabulous shots of my pink tutu in front of the Duomo, and I'm definitely adding the Tram 1 to my itinerary every time I'm in Milan.

You know, my friends, a little fashion shopping always makes me feel even more glamorous. And I can't pass up the opportunity to find some new outfit additions to complement my tutu! So I decided to stroll through Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II - a magnificent glass-domed shopping mall dating back to the 19th century! It's a beautiful mixture of fashion houses, high-end boutiques and Italian trattorias, perfect for picking up unique fashion finds. I’ve found some wonderful new accessories – think a statement hat with a delicate plume and a stunning scarf, perfect for those chilly evenings - that will help my pink tutu stand out. And speaking of standing out, can you believe, dear readers, that a group of local fashionistas spotted me on the train this morning! Turns out, I had a massive pink tulle explosion on my bag - which, yes, I must admit did look rather glamorous, and we all ended up in a heated discussion about tutu fashion! This happened right near the Central Station, and honestly, the ladies were so much fun. They were in complete awe of my pink tutu! You see, here in Milan, everything revolves around style, so it's no surprise that even on public transport, fashionistas are ready to discuss the latest trends!

The most amazing part is – my little pink tutu obsession seems to be catching on. More and more people are starting to talk about the power of pink tulle, and even better – a few have started to wear tutus of their own! My mission to make everyone embrace their inner ballerina – or at least add a bit of tutu magic to their lives – is steadily growing. This really fills me with joy - just imagining the streets filled with girls twirling in pink tutus – it would be like a magical ballet!

And the best part is – every week here in Milan, there's always something new to explore. Whether it's a new exhibit at Palazzo Reale or a breathtaking opera at La Scala, I always manage to fit some fashion exploration into my schedule. Today, I was particularly smitten with a new shop I found near Corso Vittorio Emanuele II called 'The Dressmaker's Delight' . It's a veritable Aladdin’s Cave for anyone who loves to create – think silk ribbons, shimmering beads, fabric flowers and feather boas! They have an incredible range of lace trims - from delicate floral to bold geometric patterns - that will elevate even the plainest of outfits to a more elegant affair! You know I simply couldn't leave without a new bundle of lace and silk ribbon to embellish my pink tutu and bring a little touch of Milanese fashion to my creations.

Now, I'll tell you what – with all this exciting ballet action and fashion flair, my heart is brimming with creativity and a whole host of new tutu inspiration. There's a big performance coming up next week, so it's time for me to dust off my dance shoes and practise my steps - especially my signature arabesque! And I wouldn't want to miss out on exploring even more corners of this fabulous city! Until then, keep your eyes peeled for a post next Monday at www.pink-tutu.com, where I'll be sharing all my Milanese escapades! Ciao bella!
