Pink Tutu Milan #101: Ciao Bella, Milan!

Wednesday, 1997-05-14

Buongiorno, darlings!

It's Emma, your favourite pink tutu-wearing, ballet-obsessed travel blogger, back from the magical city of Milan! It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means… another exciting episode of Pink Tutu Milan, landing on your screens bright and early, straight from my pink tutu headquarters here in beautiful Italia! This week has been an absolute whirlwind, filled with enough sequins and tutus to make a ballerina blush!

Today's post, #101 in our never-ending love affair with pink and twirling, will be about all the delights Milan has offered this past week, including:

  • A magical evening at Teatro alla Scala
  • An afternoon exploring the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, Milan’s grandest shopping arcade
  • The perfect spot for some tea, shopping and a new pink tutu, darling!
  • A journey on the Milan metro in style!
  • Delicious Milanese cuisine - the food is simply heavenly

So grab a cuppa, put on your favourite ballerina-inspired outfit (or even a pink tutu if you fancy!), and let's dive headfirst into this pinktastic journey!

Ciao, Milan!

As my trusty pink suitcase whizzed its way from Derbyshire to Milan, I couldn't contain my excitement. I had been longing to visit this stylish city, known for its stunning architecture, world-renowned fashion, and of course, its vibrant cultural scene.

After an enchanting train ride through the rolling hills and quaint villages of northern Italy, I arrived in Milan, a city brimming with history and charm. I could already picture myself pirouetting down the cobblestone streets, feeling the magic of this Italian masterpiece!

First Stop: A Delightful Italian Journey by Tram

The minute I hopped off the train, I could feel the excitement bubbling inside me! My first stop? The charming Milan tram system! The moment the red and cream tram appeared, my heart skipped a beat. Imagine, dear readers, me, twirling gracefully into a charming tram with my little pink suitcase – pure Italian bliss! I can assure you it was picture perfect, like a scene from a beautiful film.

Teatro alla Scala: The Night's Magical Finale

This evening was all about a trip to Teatro alla Scala. I found a darling pink evening gown, one that perfectly reflected my passion for both ballet and Italian elegance, for this special occasion. My heart danced with glee, especially when I realized I'd snagged tickets to see a performance of "La Traviata," my all-time favourite opera! The building was magnificent! Just as my grand tour through Derbyshire had revealed an architectural treasure trove of heritage manor houses, Teatro alla Scala embodied a similar feeling – grand, regal and undeniably inspiring. It took my breath away! I couldn’t wait for the performance to begin. The opera was exquisite, from the talented singers to the gorgeous costumes, everything was perfect! The music soared through the theatre, sending chills down my spine.

An Afternoon of Shopping and Prosecco!

The following day, after a delightful breakfast of croissants and espresso (a Milan must, darling!), I decided to indulge in some retail therapy. Milan's Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a treasure trove of luxurious shops and boutiques! It's no wonder this arcade is a shopping haven! Think of it as the Covent Garden of Milan, but a touch more extravagant, filled with the most incredible Italian brands! My mind was reeling with stylish handbags, decadent dresses and gorgeous shoes! A pair of sleek ballet flats beckoned me, and a beautiful, light pink feather boa - so on-trend!

I had a delicious and sophisticated lunch at one of the chic cafes within the galleria. The sound of clinking champagne glasses filled the air, creating a lighthearted atmosphere! There’s something undeniably alluring about Italian sophistication - and it definitely works with pink, trust me!

The Perfect Spot for Tea & a Tutu:

To end my shopping adventure, I stumbled upon a little shop that instantly captured my attention! Tucked away in a quaint, peaceful corner, it looked like it stepped out of a vintage storybook! Filled with lace and beautiful, light floral scents, I found the perfect afternoon tea. And, darling, the best part of it all? It even had an exquisite pink tutu hanging on the display. My dear, how could I resist?! So yes, naturally, I had to purchase the tutu - it was love at first sight! I can't wait to showcase it at my next ballet performance.

Metro Mayhem: Adventures in Milan Style

I had a blast exploring the city and its intricate, interconnected network of streets! However, with all those cobblestones and historical attractions, my legs were beginning to ache by the end of the day. That's when I realised my next travel must-have for Milan was the tram - not to be outdone, it is an experience for the fashion-conscious traveller, one that you shouldn’t miss! It made moving around the city a breeze!

Food, Glorious Food!

As if all of the fashion and the ballet couldn't get any better, darling, there was food! Let me tell you about Milan's culinary delights! From the delicate flavours of Ossobuco to the heavenly creamy panna cotta, the city’s culinary creations have made this a gastronomical adventure, even better than Derbyshire’s home-baked fare (which I still love, of course!). The Milanese love their food as much as they love fashion. I fell in love with the local specialities: risotto alla Milanese (a yellow saffron risotto), the best lasagna I’ve ever tasted! It is said that one cannot travel to Italy without partaking in a little Italian gelato, and boy was I right! The flavours - so creamy, fresh and unique - made me truly understand why Milan has been hailed a culinary haven.

It’s More than a Pink Tutu:

I must admit, I am completely enamoured by this enchanting city! Milan has woven itself into the tapestry of my pink tutu memories. The city itself is bursting with personality, just like a beautiful pink tutu that adds its unique charm to every outfit!

My time in Milan is over, but one thing’s for certain: I’m already counting down the days until I can visit again. So keep your tutus ready, darlings, as Pink Tutu Milan is back next week with another sensational story to share. Until then, be sure to keep your eyes on my blog, www.pink-tutu.com and follow me on Instagram for my latest fashion adventures and behind-the-scenes look at all the magic I experience in my travels. Ciao, darling!

Don’t forget: Keep dancing and keep twirling! Stay bright, stay beautiful, and, as always, stay pink!

Love, Emma xoxo
