Pink Tutu Milan #104: La Dolce Vita in a Pink Tutu! 🩰💖🇮🇹

Ciao, darlings! It's Emma from Pink Tutu Milan, back with another week's adventures in the glamorous city of Milan. Today, I'm overflowing with joy because it's Wednesday, the 4th of June 1997, and the sunshine is practically dripping with romance. I've been waltzing around the city like a petal on a breeze, feeling as though I've been dropped straight into a scene from La Dolce Vita, only instead of being glamorous in black, I'm dazzling in a luscious shade of pink. Oh, the joy of pink tutus!

Speaking of tutus, I've got a whole new crop of them for my Milan wardrobe! It's a delicate balancing act - you can't be weighed down with too many twirly delights, especially when travelling around, but how can you resist a vintage Parisian pink with delicate floral embroidery, or a fluffy lilac that whispers "springtime dreams?"

I confess, I spent yesterday afternoon in Via Montenapoleone, the chicest shopping street in all of Milan, like a little pink butterfly fluttering around boutiques. It was utter bliss! From Versace to Dolce & Gabbana to the independent Italian ateliers, it's a true playground for any fashionista. Though, you know, a little less pink in those stores than in my own world, which just feels a tad unfair, don't you think? But who knows, maybe this is my calling - bring a splash of colour to the haute couture world!

Anyway, after my shopping escapade, I popped over to the Teatro alla Scala, and just had to snap a picture for you all. It's truly the heart of the city's artistic soul, a historical marvel radiating grandeur and grace. It feels a little bit like stepping back in time - I imagine grand operas, passionate applause, and whispers of whispered love affairs all within its grand walls. But of course, my heart is always dreaming of a ballet performance - how I crave the sheer elegance and beauty of dancers in flight!

But back to the city's heart, and specifically its delicious heart! I've fallen head-over-heels for a tiny, adorable gelateria on the Corso Buenos Aires, tucked away between two vintage stores that boast an entire rack dedicated to polka-dot scarves - another of my secret passions!

The ice cream is just pure, divine decadence - they even have pink strawberry with a hint of vanilla! As I said, Milan's heart truly understands me. But back to the gelateria, it's called Dolce Luna - they have the most exquisite flavours you can imagine. The owner is an Italian man who tells me the most wonderful stories about his love of creating the perfect gelato. He insists I try a scoop of the "fiordilatte," and as soon as I do, it feels like a tiny ray of Italian sunshine bursting on my tongue!

It's these small moments of joy - the sparkle in a new vintage brooch, the taste of authentic gelato, the laughter with strangers in a cafe, the beauty of a grand opera house - that make life so truly delicious, like a sweet Italian treat. Oh, and let's not forget the pink tutu! It's like the sprinkle of pink sugar on a perfect gelato experience!

But speaking of sprinkles and sugar...

I am bursting with excitement because this evening, the legendary Teatro San Carlo in Naples is holding a special benefit performance. They are celebrating their 250th anniversary and have invited dancers from all over the world to showcase their talent! Imagine: tutus twirling in every colour of the rainbow, gracefulness reaching new heights!

This event, of course, is the perfect excuse for me to take a quick train trip down to Naples. Not that I needed an excuse, because the sheer joy of traveling by train, a window seat looking out onto the picturesque countryside, a novel in my hand, and a soundtrack playing softly in my ears...well, let's just say my heart feels like it's about to burst from sheer contentment.

And the bonus? I can fit an extra pink tutu in my luggage without worry! So, my little lovelies, this will be a short and sweet post today as I need to pack my ballet shoes, my new pink tutus, my carefully chosen vintage scarves and my very own "sprinkle of pink" to help celebrate 250 years of Naples' incredible Teatro San Carlo!

I'll be back next week with tales of dancing on Neapolitan stages and perhaps, if the stars align perfectly, I'll share a story or two of the stunning Amalfi Coast. Now, you know that this girl from Derbyshire loves a good story. Until then, keep twirling in your own sunshine and spread a little pink magic wherever you go!

See you next Monday, and keep the faith!

With love, Emma
