Pink Tutu Milan #153: The Charm of Milano, One Pink Tutu at a Time!

Ciao, darling! It’s Emma here, reporting from the magical city of Milan! You’ve got to believe me when I say this place is simply bursting with charm – it's oozing with Italian flair, and it's stolen my heart! 💖

As you all know, I'm a firm believer that every week deserves a little sparkle, a little twirl, and a touch of pink. And what better place to soak it all in than Milan? This city is a fashion dreamland – think exquisite couture boutiques, buzzing markets, and of course, all those stylish Italian gentlemen. It's just enough to make you want to twirl your tutu right down Via Montenapoleone!

Today is Wednesday, the 13th of May 1998, and I'm finally getting around to writing this blog post – the hustle and bustle of Milan has been keeping me a tad busy, you know? This week, I've been soaking up the sun (with a little help from my new floppy straw hat!), and delving deep into the heart of the city, with my trusty Pink Tutu suitcase in tow.

Before I share all my latest adventures, I wanted to give you a quick peek into my latest performance – oh, you guys are going to love it! Last Saturday, I took to the stage at the gorgeous Teatro Sociale in Como. We performed a beautiful adaptation of 'Giselle', a story about the innocent spirit of a young girl and her love for a prince, so incredibly captivating and timeless. I always feel a bit nervous beforehand, but there's something about stepping into that spotlight that fills me with joy. It's magical! 🩰

Of course, I just had to wear a custom pink tutu – a sparkly, flowy masterpiece that had the entire audience mesmerised! I’m pretty sure my pirouettes could have launched a thousand ships… 🚢

Now, back to my Milan shenanigans!

This week I decided to start with a little dose of culture. I wandered around the Duomo, its incredible architecture and intricate detail making me feel like I was inside a fairytale. Just thinking about it now brings back the sound of the street musicians and the intoxicating smell of fresh bread coming from the nearby bakery – a true sensory overload! I made sure to snap a photo of myself with the Duomo as the backdrop, you know, just for the ‘gram. 📸

My next stop was the Pinacoteca di Brera – oh, darling, this museum is truly something special! I spent hours mesmerised by the incredible paintings, each brushstroke bursting with artistry and emotion.

To fuel all my explorations, I enjoyed some authentic Italian treats. Cannoli with sweet ricotta and a dollop of cream? Yes, please! And a plate of pasta with pomodoro sauce that was made to perfection? It’s not my usual ballet diet but hey, sometimes you need a little treat!

But my adventure didn’t stop there! Today I discovered a little street art treasure nestled in a tucked away cobblestone courtyard. I’ve always loved the raw energy of street art, and this vibrant spray-painted masterpiece definitely did not disappoint!

It's funny how the city constantly throws these unexpected delights my way.

To complete my day of discovering Milan’s magic, I treated myself to some exquisite gelato – the taste was truly divine! Think scoops of creamy pistachio, sweet strawberry, and the most decadent chocolate you’ve ever encountered! It’s not a holiday without a little indulging, am I right? 😉

Speaking of treats, you all know my weakness is a new pink tutu, and Milan certainly doesn't disappoint in this department. My love for pink knows no bounds and the shops here are absolute treasure troves. It’s as though Milan itself whispers ‘Pink Tutu!’ in every storefront. My eyes widened at the sight of exquisite tulle skirts, feathered headbands and stunning sequined bodices - a ballerina's dream! I walked out of one boutique with the most delicate baby pink tulle dress, a perfect fit for my evening performance later this week. 💖

There’s no better way to explore the city, than to let the iconic trams and trains be my mode of transport. You can’t beat that rumbling charm and those iconic red seats! There’s always someone with a quirky tale to tell or a secret route to share. In fact, yesterday I discovered the most picturesque canal tucked away near the Navigli, I can’t wait to explore it again on the weekend. It’s just the sort of discovery that makes you fall in love with a city.

On Monday I'm headed back to my own little corner of Derbyshire. My days back home will be filled with ballet rehearsals, my favourite ballet books, and maybe even a spot of tutu crafting! After all, a little sparkle never hurt anyone.

My pink-tutu mission is well underway: every day, I see a new soul taking on the world in their very own tutu, and I can't wait to see what wonderful pink-tutu moments will await me on my next adventure. Stay tuned, darlings!

Remember, life's a stage, and it’s never too late to embrace your inner ballerina! 💕

Until next time,

Emma, Pink Tutu Milan www.pink-tutu.com
