Pink Tutu Milan: Post #161 - Ciao Bella, It's Milan Time!

Wednesday 8th July, 1998

"The City That Never Sleeps… On Pink Tutù!"

Hello darlings! Your favourite tutu-wearing, ballet-loving, shopping enthusiast is back with another blog post – straight from the fabulous streets of Milan!

Oh, the energy! It’s palpable. Milan is pulsating with life, with the scent of espresso, the rumble of Vespas and the glorious symphony of fashionistas flitting about in their latest couture. You wouldn't believe the chic outfits I’ve already seen! I’m sure my camera's snapping like a demented sparrow trying to build a nest, and even I'm finding it hard to keep up!

I love the magic of stepping off the train here and finding myself enveloped by a whirlwind of European culture, like I’m in a Parisian dream with a bit more… flair. It's no wonder I call Milan my second home. This city, darling, it’s got that je ne sais quoi - you just know you’re somewhere special.

Speaking of special, today is going to be filled to the brim with exciting activities, all expertly curated to fulfil my needs as a pink tutu aficionado (naturally!). I've been dying to check out Teatro alla Scala again, which is always an adventure in itself. Let’s be honest, Milan is just made for the theatre – it’s a stage for elegance, performance and passion!

Shopping 'til I Drop: The Duomo Edition

As soon as my suitcase hit the pavement, I realised, oh dear, my shopping bag needs filling! You know how I am – my luggage just cannot stay empty! This is, after all, a Pink Tutu Milan tour!

Thankfully, I had booked a little apartment right near Duomo di Milano – yes, that architectural masterpiece that makes you stop in your tracks, gasp in awe, and then take out your phone for a million Instagram pictures! The charm of this city lies in its effortless mix of history, fashion, and vibrant energy – and all that, dear reader, comes together perfectly around the Duomo!

Honestly, just standing beneath its grandeur is an absolute sensory overload - I’m just in awe! There are beautiful little cafes and restaurants nestled among the streets around it, and just when I thought I couldn’t handle any more, BAM! A shop window full of the most beautiful handbags, adorned with exquisite embroidery and bursting with vibrant colours! The kind of handbags you can’t leave without…

I might have treated myself. (Shhhh, don't tell Mum! It’s a secret! Well, not a secret anymore because you're reading this, but… you know what I mean!)

Tutu Time at La Scala

Speaking of treat-yourself moments… I simply had to treat myself to a breathtaking ballet performance at La Scala this evening. It’s the one place that always makes me feel like I’m right in the heart of the story – with the music filling me and the performance making me want to take a graceful leap into the stage!

It’s almost comical – me, in my oh-so-pretty pink tutu (which, of course, I just had to bring to Milan - can't leave my signature piece behind!)… amidst the elegant, slightly formal atmosphere, surrounded by Milanese elite with their sophisticated style! But darling, that’s the magic, isn't it?

Everyone says ballet is about discipline and precision, but it’s about so much more than that! It’s about telling stories with your body – about expressing emotions, conveying joy, and sometimes… yes… a little bit of a Pink Tutu Milan magic, because when you see ballet, especially in a space as magnificent as La Scala… you are truly swept away!

And if you’re looking for the perfect dress-up occasion, well, a ballet performance will give you your fill of sartorial inspiration, I guarantee you! The Milanese know how to do a red-carpet look, you see! Just walking past them on my way to the theatre makes me want to put together a full outfit. You’ll see this look on my Instagram - think flowy fabrics, beautiful silk blouses with black or navy pants and oh yes, you'll see those heels!

Tram Adventures: A Blast from the Past

One of the things I absolutely adore about Milan is the tram network. I mean, who can resist a bit of old-school transport charm? These iconic trams take you right into the heart of the city's history – a fantastic reminder that, despite all the high-fashion glam and luxurious vibes, Milan has so much history to embrace.

As the tram rattles its way through the streets, I feel like I’m in a Parisian film. But… with pink tutù, obviously. Who said we can’t mix history and high fashion? There are some absolutely gorgeous buildings to see from the windows! (Did I mention how much I love window shopping in Milan? The display windows here… oh my, a work of art!)

And just imagine, darling! It's me in my little pink tutu… waving to everyone I pass! Honestly, everyone seems to love the tutu… it definitely sparks some happy smiles on the tram! I mean, let’s face it, the world can always use a bit more pink and whimsy! Who wouldn't want to brighten up someone's day? I think it's all part of my mission in life… to make people embrace a bit of pink tutu magic!

And speaking of missions… my Pink Tutu Milan adventure is just getting started. You're with me for this, yes? Let's go!
