Pink Tutu Milan: #205 - Ciao Bella, Milano!

Buongiorno, my dearest Tutu Tribe! It's Emma here, your pink-loving, tutu-touting, ballet-obsessed blogger, ready to whisk you away to the fashion-forward city of Milan!

This week, my little pink ballet shoes have taken me all over the Italian metropolis. It's been a whirlwind of glorious gelato, chic street style, and enough sequins to dazzle a thousand ballerinas! (Okay, maybe I exaggerate... but only slightly!).

Tram Ride Adventures

Milan has a fantastic tram system, which makes getting around a breeze! The city has a charm all its own, with the tram clanging and ringing, the smell of espresso wafting through the air, and street vendors selling beautiful fresh flowers.

Ballet in the Big Apple (Okay, the Big Apple is in New York, but still...)

On my adventure this week, I had the privilege of seeing a breathtaking ballet performance at Teatro alla Scala. The theatre itself is absolutely stunning, all gilded decor and grand velvet seating. The performance was mesmerising, filled with delicate movements, powerful leaps, and an orchestra playing beautifully. As a ballerina, seeing live ballet like this is so inspirational! I swear I felt like I could practically hear the sound of the tutus swirling.

The Magic of Fashion

Of course, no trip to Milan would be complete without indulging in some serious fashion. The streets of this city are a runway come to life. You’ll see some incredible looks: daring street style, luxurious high fashion, and a healthy dose of Milanese flair! I’m absolutely in love with the vibrant prints, luxurious fabrics, and attention to detail. There’s no better place to be inspired for a new ballet outfit than in Milan!

A Deliciously Pink Italian Moment

I’ve gotta share this, my darlings. You know how much I love pink, right? So, imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a little Italian café serving a pink gelato called “Fragola”! The strawberry flavour was deliciously refreshing, and the shade of pink was just dreamy. It was the perfect way to enjoy a little afternoon break between my ballet adventures and my shopping spree!

Shopping Til You Drop...Or Maybe Just Dance Til You Drop

Let's be honest, every ballerina has a penchant for a bit of retail therapy. But this week, I've been trying to exercise some restraint (sort of). The temptation was too great though! I’ve been able to add some stunning new additions to my tutu wardrobe - a glorious pink tulle skirt with delicate sequins, a sparkly pink top for performances, and a stunning, vintage, powder pink clutch. I’m feeling absolutely ready to shimmy my way into the weekend in style!

Pink Tutu-tastic Tips for Travelling with a Tutu

Now, my darlings, travelling with a tutu can be a bit of a logistical ballet, But never fear! Here’s a few top tips I've picked up on my travels:

  • Fold your Tutu Carefully: Pack it in a dedicated garment bag. Never cram it in your suitcase. Think "delicate ballet" and not "rocky tumble"!

  • Keep it Separate: Carry it on the plane as hand luggage or as an extra bag on the train to prevent potential creases and crushed feathers.

  • Wear it if You Can!: It's best to pack a good pair of tights or leggings and slip into your tutu on arrival! This lets you admire the world in a lovely pink hue whilst avoiding packing difficulties.

Cultural Gems

  • Museo Poldi Pezzoli: Explore a beautifully curated art museum housing paintings by renowned Italian artists. They have a particular focus on Renaissance and Medieval pieces, with incredible furniture and decorative arts.

  • Milan Duomo: Take a trip up to the top of this grand cathedral for breath-taking views of the city. It's worth booking your ticket in advance for a faster entrance, especially during the tourist season.

  • The Castello Sforzesco: Lose yourself in the captivating history and art displayed at the Sforza Castle. It’s also a great spot for some photogenic views!

Let’s Dance:

  • Teatro alla Scala: As I mentioned, this is one of the most famous opera houses in the world, renowned for its incredible performances and acoustics. I have tickets booked for an incredible new production of The Sleeping Beauty, so I am absolutely giddy! There’s nothing like the sound of live music in a historical venue.

  • Teatro Franco Parenti: This theater focuses on contemporary plays and dance, and often features innovative experimental work. You can find details of upcoming productions on their website, and sometimes on the official Italian tourism websites, though be sure to brush up on your Italian, it's the most important language for the artistic life in Milano.

Stay Tuned, Tutu Tribe!

Remember, dear Tutu Tribe, to spread the love of ballet and the power of the pink tutu. It's my goal in life to get every single person in the world wearing a pink tutu. Who's with me?!

Don't forget to keep up with all my Milan adventures by following my weekly blog at www.pink-tutu.com!
