Pink Tutu Milan: Ciao Bella! (Post #212)

Wednesday 30th June, 1999

Ciao, darlings!

I’m finally in Milan! It feels like a dream – a whirlwind of fashion, delicious aromas, and stunning architecture. After all those months of dreaming, planning, and saving every penny from my performances, I finally landed here, my pink tutu practically bursting with excitement.

I can already see myself whirling through the cobbled streets of Milan in my tutu, attracting smiles and chuckles from everyone who sees me. After all, why should tutus be reserved just for the ballet studio? They’re so fun, so full of life, and so absolutely beautiful!

My journey started this morning in lovely Derbyshire, England. The countryside was bathed in the morning light, as if bidding farewell to a young ballerina on an adventure. It was a perfect start to a journey filled with adventure and beauty.

My trusty travel companion - the train – was filled with other eager travelers, all of them going somewhere exciting. A friendly old lady in a floral dress gave me a little smile and complimented my pink tutu, telling me I looked "positively charming!" Honestly, how could you resist that? The entire carriage buzzed with anticipation for the journey ahead.

After a quick hop on the metro in London, it was finally time to board the Eurostar. As I watched the lush English countryside melt away, my heart swelled with excitement for Italy. I even managed to snag a window seat, the perfect place to watch the world go by in a blur of changing landscapes.

The arrival in Milan was like stepping into a movie. The train station bustled with people, all with places to be, things to see, and adventures to have. The air was warm and buzzing with a mix of Italian chatter and foreign whispers. I practically squealed with delight.

Finding My Feet in Milan

After a bit of confusion with my directions (you know how it is, trying to navigate a foreign city with a bulky travel map and a huge pink tutu), I found my little haven: a charming B&B tucked away in a quiet side street, not too far from the famous Duomo. The room was decorated in soft, romantic colours, and I felt myself relaxing as soon as I stepped inside.

The highlight of the day, of course, was my exploration of Milan. I felt the pulse of the city coursing through me as I wandered along the narrow, cobbled streets, each shop window filled with beautiful treasures. The Duomo was breathtaking - a massive, elaborate marvel in pale marble, reaching up to the heavens. It was awe-inspiring and I even found myself dancing with delight, twirling my tutu around the Piazza.

Speaking of dancing, there’s a performance by the Teatro alla Scala tomorrow evening - Swan Lake! The music and choreography of Swan Lake have always enchanted me, and to experience it in such a prestigious theatre is beyond my wildest dreams. It’s a good thing I brought my pink tutu with me for the occasion! I plan on turning heads even before the curtain rises, with a pre-show twirl outside the Teatro alla Scala!

I even managed to find a small ballet store today – oh, the treasures! I’m still mesmerized by the exquisite silks and satin that graced the mannequins, the elegant shoes, and the glittering accessories. A true ballet lover's paradise! I managed to resist the temptation to splurge, but maybe tomorrow … (shh!)

A Pink Tutu Adventure in Milan

This evening, I enjoyed a delicious Italian dinner at a charming little restaurant, savouring the authentic flavour of this extraordinary city. The food was heavenly – and so romantic! And for the final touch? You guessed it, a twirl in the twilight with my pink tutu fluttering around my legs as I went to find a sweet gelateria to cap off this perfect Italian evening.

I'm already counting down the hours until the Scala performance, but this is only the beginning of my adventure! Milan has so much more to offer - from fashion shows and grand operas to charming trattorias and historical squares, I can't wait to immerse myself in the heart of this glamorous Italian city.

Tune in next week for more from Pink Tutu Milan, darlings!

Ciao for now!
Emma
