Pink Tutu Milan #215: Ciao Bella! From Derbyshire to the Duomo 🩰🇮🇹

Well, hello there, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad adventurer, Emma, and I'm back with another peek into the glamorous, shimmering world of Pink Tutu Milan! This week, I'm channeling all the charm of the Italian sunshine, and trust me, the warmth here is just as infectious as the smiles of the locals.

This week, it's been a whirlwind of tutus and tramlines. From exploring the iconic Duomo – and finding the perfect pink handbag to match its exquisite detail – to waltzing through bustling markets overflowing with beautiful Italian fabric, my senses have been utterly intoxicated. I simply cannot resist a bit of window shopping – particularly for gorgeous, sequined ballet shoes, darling! (And did I mention I picked up a few pairs this week? Ooh la la!)

My week started, as always, with a beautiful ballet class in a charming studio near my apartment. Oh, you know how much I adore a good ballet lesson! Feeling the stretch of my muscles and the grace of each movement is such a powerful feeling, leaving me utterly energised and ready to conquer the day.

Speaking of conquering the day, it wouldn't be a trip to Milan without indulging in some serious sightseeing, and what better way to get there than by the iconic Milan trams? They're like rolling art galleries with vintage charm – they definitely beat the London Tube any day!

This time, my destination was the breathtaking Duomo. I couldn't help but get swept up in its sheer magnificence. The intricate carvings, the vibrant mosaics, the history radiating from every corner… it truly felt like I'd stepped into a fairytale! Oh, and I'm not exaggerating when I say it took me a full hour just to admire it from every angle. And while I was at it, I found myself a stunning pink handbag – you simply must see the photos on my website!

After a delightful stroll through the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, the city’s famed shopping arcade, my feet (and my wallet!) cried out for a well-deserved gelato break. Let me tell you, the Italians know their ice cream. Oh, I savoured every bite, allowing the delicious sweetness to melt on my tongue. Truly heavenly!

Now, darling, you simply can’t have a proper Italian experience without enjoying a delightful show. And speaking of, the Teatro alla Scala, Milan's legendary opera house, is absolutely mesmerizing!

This Wednesday, the show was “La Bohème” by Giacomo Puccini. As the curtains drew back, I was utterly enchanted by the story of love, tragedy, and beauty unfolding before my very eyes. The voices of the singers were simply breathtaking – powerful, moving, and evocative – transplanting me right into the heart of Bohemian life in 19th-century Paris. It was an absolute dream. I was truly touched by the powerful emotions and raw talent on display. And yes, I shed a few happy tears, don't judge! 😉

The atmosphere at the opera was pure magic. The entire space – with its velvet seating and ornate detailing – pulsed with the rhythm of the performance. It was an exquisite blend of old-world charm and timeless talent that reminded me why I adore the arts so much. I had a little dance in the hallway to my favourite bits, just for a bit of fun!

Speaking of which, there's something wonderfully magical about experiencing art in any form, whether it's ballet, opera, theatre, or a beautifully arranged window display in a quaint little shop. Every single moment, each performance, and each artistic expression evokes a beautiful response – whether it be joy, sadness, a deep sense of reflection, or perhaps a spark of inspiration.

This evening, as I enjoyed a perfectly prepared aperitivo by the Canal Grande, I couldn't help but feel a profound sense of gratitude. I am so incredibly grateful to have experienced so much beauty, laughter, and artistic excellence in this enchanting city.

But it wasn’t just the dazzling performances and the intricate designs that stole my heart this week. It was the simple joys of Italian life that truly filled my cup: the vibrant conversations shared with local shopkeepers over perfectly brewed espressos, the infectious laughter of children playing in the cobblestone squares, the sun-drenched evenings enjoyed with my fellow tutu-wearing ballet sisters, sharing tales of the week and reminiscing about our dreams and passions.

In Milan, even the simple act of getting lost in the winding alleyways, only to stumble upon a charming little trattoria tucked away in the heart of the city, feels like a little adventure. There’s just something magical about this place, a sense of vibrant life that seems to pulsate in every cobblestone and bloom in every sunflower peeking out from a tiny balcony.

But you know, what makes my experience here truly special are the amazing people I meet. The warmth and friendliness of the locals make me feel right at home. And yes, darling, I’ve even inspired a few people to join my mission to get the world wearing pink tutus! It's such a joy to see others embracing their inner ballerina!

As I bid farewell to another glorious week in Milan, I feel an overwhelming sense of inspiration. The spirit of this city – its creativity, its artistic vibrancy, its passion for life – has filled me with so much joy and determination.

Next week, I’m taking my tutus on a train journey through the stunning countryside – a true escape from the bustling city, exploring hidden gems, soaking up the natural beauty, and of course, searching for the perfect new dance studio for a ballet class or two!

But until then, darling, don’t forget to keep your chin high, twirl like you mean it, and remember, everyone can wear a pink tutu. You’ve got this, my darling!

With a final twirl and a sprinkle of Italian sunshine,

Your Pink Tutu Queen, Emma 💖🩰
