Pink Tutu Milan: #218 - Ciao Bella, from the Fashion Capital! 🩰🇮🇹

Wednesday, 11th August 1999

Buongiorno, darlings! It’s Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood Pink Tutu girl, writing to you live from the vibrant heart of Milan! 🇮🇹 Yes, that’s right, your girl Emma has landed in the fashion capital of the world, and my suitcase is positively bursting with enough pink tulle to fill a whole ballet school.

It's been a whirlwind of a journey to get here - let's just say the train ride from Derbyshire wasn't exactly a waltz, more like a slightly bumpy pas de deux, but we made it in one piece, and my pink tutu survived the journey (as always).

Milan is already stealing my heart! The city is buzzing with life, and the architecture is just exquisite. Everywhere you look there's a building covered in intricate details, and the grand avenues, filled with sleek, stylish shops and bustling cafes, make you feel like you’ve stepped straight out of a fashion magazine.

A Fashionable Feast for the Eyes

Milan is absolutely chock-full of amazing shops. Yesterday, I spent the afternoon strolling along Corso Buenos Aires, which was practically a paradise for a fashion-loving ballerina like me. Every shop window displayed gorgeous clothes, shoes, accessories and even beautiful fabrics – I could have spent a lifetime browsing, let me tell you!

The Italian flair for style is undeniable, and even the simplest of outfits are instantly transformed into chic, fashionable looks with a dash of Italian panache. Of course, a pink tutu makes every outfit even better, don’t you agree?

Catching a Ballet Dream in Milan

Milan's La Scala, one of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, is a dream come true for any ballerina, and it's only a few tram stops from where I'm staying! Can you imagine the energy, the emotion, the stories these very walls have witnessed?!

Tonight, however, I’m heading to Teatro alla Scala for a show called ‘The Swan Lake’. They have two full-length productions on at the moment: a 1990 version and the original 1877 version, and I’m planning to see both! I’ve seen this production at home, but of course, nothing compares to seeing it in such an iconic venue.

Just picturing myself in a pink tutu amidst all that grandeur! It’s an image that will stay with me long after the curtain has fallen.

Travel Tips & Tram Talk

Travelling by tram in Milan is such a lovely way to see the city. It's not just about getting from A to B; it's about being immersed in the rhythm of city life. Watching the bustling street life, soaking up the atmosphere, and people-watching (without anyone noticing – a skill every dancer acquires!).

One of my favourite trams in Milan is the Linea 1, or as I like to call it, the Pink Line! 😉

This route whisks you past the vibrant Brera district, past the famous Duomo and then towards Castello Sforzesco, giving you the chance to see some truly stunning architecture. Plus, they have little signs next to every stop, which are quite informative - one sign told me to be wary of pickpockets – who knew Italy could be so…well, Italian?

Finding a Little Bit of Magic

Every city has its hidden gems, and Milan is no exception. Yesterday, I stumbled across a small courtyard garden, filled with blooming flowers and the sound of cascading fountains. For a moment, I felt transported away from the bustling city, and I could just sit back and let the peacefulness wash over me. It was pure magic, tucked away amidst the chaos.

Milan is certainly a whirlwind of a place. It’s bursting with history, culture and yes, the best shops, fashion and restaurants! If you are planning to visit Milan yourself, remember to look out for a pink tutu… it might just be mine, floating around the Duomo!

Until next week, darlings! Ciao for now!
