Pink Tutu Milan - Blog Post #230 - Wednesday, 3rd November 1999

Ciao bella!

Welcome back to Pink Tutu Milan, your weekly dose of all things pink, twirling, and fabulous! It's been another whirlwind week here in the fashion capital of the world, and believe me, I've been absolutely soaking it all up!

As you all know, I'm a Derbyshire girl at heart, but Milan has truly stolen my heart. It's got such a vibrant energy, a passion for life, and of course, an undeniable love affair with style.

This week has been a delightful mix of ballet performances, shopping sprees, and some charming adventures on the city's iconic trams. But first, let's rewind a little bit and catch you up on the past few days…

A Whirlwind Week in the Fashion Capital

My week kicked off with a performance at Teatro alla Scala, the most prestigious opera house in all of Italy. This magnificent venue, steeped in history and elegance, never fails to take my breath away. The sheer opulence of the decor, the murmur of the audience settling in, and the anticipation in the air – it's magic, simply magic!

I danced my heart out in a custom-designed tutu, the pinkest of pinks, naturally! The audience erupted in applause, and I was just so full of joy and pride. After the show, a local fashion designer, the incredibly talented Lucia, spotted me. We had a lovely chat about fashion and my mission to get everyone in a pink tutu, and guess what? She's even agreed to collaborate with me on a new design for my website! Exciting times ahead, darlings!

Later that week, I discovered a little hidden gem – a tiny, charming café called La Dolce Vita, tucked away in a quiet cobbled alley. Oh my goodness, their cappuccino was to die for!

As always, I squeezed in some shopping, as a little ballerina needs to look her best, right? The Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II is a must-visit for any fashionista. I simply had to indulge in a gorgeous pair of pink suede shoes. After all, a pink tutu needs some pretty feet to stand on, wouldn't you agree?

Travel Adventures with a Pink Tutu

One of my favourite things about Milan is exploring the city by tram. It's such a charming way to soak in the atmosphere. Imagine me, my pink tutu billowing in the breeze, swaying to the rhythm of the tracks!

My week took me all over, from the fashionable Corso Buenos Aires to the grand Piazza del Duomo. The trams are like windows into the soul of the city, and they truly allow you to feel the pulse of Milan.

This week, I was lucky enough to snag a ticket to an incredible exhibition at the Triennale Design Museum. The theme was all about "Future Fabrics," exploring the cutting edge of sustainable fashion materials and innovative textile technologies. My fellow tutu enthusiasts will be thrilled to hear they have a display of 3D printed ballet costumes, simply breathtaking!

Pink Tutu Musings on Milan

Milan is a city that inspires me. From the cobbled streets to the incredible architecture, the breathtaking art museums and of course the iconic fashion scene, it's a city that makes me want to twirl, spin, and dance!

Being in Milan has definitely made me think a lot about the importance of style and self-expression. Here, fashion isn't just about what you wear; it's a way of life, a language. I'm so happy to be here, spreading the message of pink tutu empowerment, one twirl at a time.

What's On in Milan

November is a special time in Milan with several interesting events happening.

Wednesday, 3rd November 1999: * Teatro alla Scala: Tonight sees a performance of Giuseppe Verdi's iconic opera, “La Traviata.” I hear the mezzo-soprano leading the cast is magnificent! If you are lucky enough to grab a ticket, enjoy the evening. This opera is about sacrifice and love – all very theatrical and definitely a highlight. * Milan Fashion Week: It’s not too late to pop down to the showrooms and see the new designs. The designers are finishing their presentations this week, with a view to their collections being seen next season, * Festival dei Popoli: This exciting annual documentary film festival is ongoing throughout the month. The selection of films is vast, covering all genres and perspectives, which I believe is crucial. I can recommend going on a weekday to catch a film if you want to avoid long queues. I think they even offer film programmes in English, too.

I’ve found there’s never a dull moment in Milan! I hope to inspire you to add your own sparkle and grace wherever you may be in the world.

Until next week, darlings,

Emma xx

P.S. I’ve heard it’s also Milan's ‘Day of the Dead’, or ‘Festa dei Morti’. However, it’s celebrated rather quietly here compared to other countries. It is a lovely day for some reflection.
