Pink Tutu Milan: Post 268 - A Whirlwind Wednesday in Milano! 🩰🇮🇹

Buongiorno, my darlings! It’s Wednesday, which means it’s time for another exciting adventure from the pinkest corner of Milan! This week, the city’s buzzing with excitement as the summer season truly kicks into gear. So, grab a slice of limoncello and let’s step into my diary, shall we? 🍋

This Wednesday has been a whirlwind of pink tutu-approved activities, starting with the most adorable breakfast spot I stumbled upon on my walk to the Teatro alla Scala this morning. It was a little hole-in-the-wall café called "La Ballerina," filled with the most delicious smell of freshly baked pastries. I had a croissant so light and flaky it almost melted in my mouth – definitely the perfect fuel for a day filled with graceful movements. 🥐

After breakfast, I took a leisurely tram ride to the Teatro alla Scala – the trams here are so wonderfully efficient and charming, just like the city itself. The iconic opera house always gets my heart racing with its elegant façade and history. I was mesmerized as I walked past the marble statues and imagined the grand ballerinas that have graced this stage over the years.

Today’s performance was something truly special - the Royal Ballet from London was in town, showcasing “La Bayadère” - an absolute feast for the senses. The set design was stunning, with rich colors and elaborate details, and the costumes… oh, the costumes! They were simply exquisite, particularly the Act 1 scene of the Temple of the Sun - a kaleidoscope of dazzling reds, golds, and whites. Of course, as soon as the curtain dropped, I headed straight to the gift shop to snag a commemorative program. I’m so looking forward to showing it off back home in Derbyshire – I’ve got the perfect spot on my wall next to my signed program from "Giselle" by the Royal Ballet last month. ✨

As for my own dance endeavors, I snuck in a lovely hour-long class at a small studio just off Corso Buenos Aires – they have a special ‘tutu-friendly’ Tuesday and Wednesday class, how fabulous is that? You can’t even imagine the excitement of stepping onto the wooden floor, surrounded by other enthusiastic dancers, the smell of sweat and shoe polish… ah, the simple joys of ballet!

I made sure to spend some time exploring Corso Buenos Aires, where I finally snagged the most adorable vintage Chanel clutch, the perfect little bag to bring along to future ballets and cultural outings. It’s small but mighty, perfect for a lipstick, my phone, and a lucky charm (I have a little silver pointe shoe charm my grandmother gifted me). Finding a vintage treasure always makes me feel extra elegant and reminds me that true style is timeless.

Speaking of style, no trip to Milan is complete without a little shopping spree, especially when the sun starts setting and the city takes on an ethereal glow. Tonight, I was drawn to the charming boutiques of the Brera district, where the air is thick with creativity and the pavements are overflowing with artistic energy.

This charming neighborhood has the perfect combination of historical buildings and independent stores, and I always end up stumbling upon something uniquely delightful. I found the most perfect, flowy silk scarf - a breathtaking shade of blush pink with intricate embroidery that captured the spirit of Milan itself. I can already imagine how stunning it’ll look with my signature pink tutu.

As the day began to fade and the city’s lights began to twinkle, I took a little detour to a charming little gelateria in the heart of Brera. A scoop of pistachio gelato (a must-try when in Milan) helped soothe the slight ache in my muscles from all the dancing. And let me tell you, they use fresh pistachios – the flavor was simply divine. 🇮🇹

While enjoying my gelato, I watched as local families and couples strolled past, enjoying the summer evening. It reminded me just how vibrant and alive this city is – a perfect blend of history, fashion, and a touch of Italian flair.

So, as the evening wrapped up, I hopped back onto a tram, my head full of music, memories, and dreams of tutus. It’s always fascinating how a city like Milan manages to be both chaotic and elegant, bustling and sophisticated. And this Wednesday, I embraced every single detail, from the smell of freshly baked pastries to the grandeur of the Teatro alla Scala, from the graceful movements of the dancers to the enchanting warmth of the Italian evening.

See you next Monday, my darlings! And don’t forget to share your own pink tutu moments – let’s spread a little bit of pink tutu magic around the world!

XOXO, Emma www.pink-tutu.com
