Pink Tutu Milan #287: A Whirlwind Wednesday in the City of Fashion

Ciao, darling tutus! Emma here, signing in from a crisp, sparkling Milan morning. It's Wednesday, December 6th, and the city is buzzing with holiday cheer. The air is full of festive lights, the windows are filled with glittering Christmas displays, and the scent of roasting chestnuts wafts through the air. Oh, I absolutely adore Milan! It's such a magical place at this time of year, and I just know this week is going to be absolutely splendid.

Before I share my adventures with you, I have to gush a little bit about this city's amazing style. The Milanese women have a natural chic, always effortlessly stylish with an impeccable sense of detail. Whether it's the tailored elegance of the women dashing off to work or the romantic bohemian looks of the shoppers strolling through the Galleria, Milan's fashion sense just makes me want to twirl! Of course, every ensemble needs the perfect touch of pink – a vibrant scarf, a dash of fuchsia lipstick, or maybe even a little pink tulle peek-a-boo beneath a stylish coat. I've already started planning some outfit ideas, so you know what that means - prepare yourselves for a sartorial extravaganza!

Now, onto my whirlwind Wednesday. I started the day with a rather thrilling adventure on the Tram 12. It was packed with local students and chic Milanese, but somehow I managed to snag a seat by the window. I love observing people from the window, taking in the architectural beauty, the colourful shops, the bustling crowds...it's a window to a vibrant, ever-evolving Milan.

My first stop was a must-see for every tutu enthusiast – La Scala. It's not just any opera house, darling, it's an architectural masterpiece, steeped in history and legendary performances. Today, the Scala Theater was adorned with sparkling Christmas lights, adding to its majestic grandeur. It’s like stepping back in time. Even though the main ballet season won't start for a few weeks, just the sight of La Scala inspires a grand arabesque within my soul.

And speaking of inspiring... I stumbled upon a delightful surprise tucked away near the opera house: a quaint little tea shop called La Teiera. Imagine a tiny little place filled with delicate floral china, cosy nooks and crannies, and an endless selection of fragrant teas. I absolutely had to try their "Rosa & Rose" blend. I can't imagine a more fitting afternoon tea for a pink-tutu enthusiast.

Speaking of delicious delights, I am so excited for tonight! My darling friend Isabella from Florence, an exquisite ballerina herself, is joining me for dinner. We're going to try a local Trattoria just outside the Galleria. I hear they have a famous Ossobuco and Risotto with Saffron – oh, my stomach is doing the "Italian rumbles"!

My journey won't be just about delectable treats though; I'm heading to the beautiful Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II to catch some ballet inspired window displays. Milan's shopping is simply unmatched. I absolutely adore the window displays that celebrate the beauty and artistry of the ballet world. I might just pick up a beautiful piece or two for myself…

You know how much I love a little ballet inspiration, so I'll be catching a matinee performance of the “Nutcracker” at the Piccolo Teatro. The set design is exquisite and the dancers are simply enchanting. I can’t wait to lose myself in the magical world of sugar plum fairies and valiant nutcrackers. I know you will, too, so don't forget to catch my live Instagram Story during the intermission, I promise to show you the magic in real-time!

While I do love the allure of a lavish theatre, there's something about catching a ballet performance outdoors that gets my heart racing! So, in the evening, I'm going to a little park near my Airbnb to catch a free performance of Street Ballet Milan (did you know this was a thing? It is a beautiful fusion of urban energy and classical dance). You know, just a regular Wednesday evening for a pink tutu wearing ballerina.

But darling, it isn't all about me and my dancing shenanigans, you're the reason I love to share my adventures with you, and what better way than through my beloved blog! I'm thrilled to share these little snapshots of my life in Milan, with you all, and I can't wait to see what treasures tomorrow holds.

You know what my absolute favourite part about travelling is? The train journeys. Nothing beats gazing out of the window as the world rushes by, and a good book to lose yourself in! Right now, I'm obsessed with The Nutcracker, a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the world of ballet, and as an added bonus, the pages are adorned with a symphony of ballet costumes and elegant designs. Perfect travel companion, if I may say so myself.

To be honest, this week I've felt an overwhelming sense of gratitude, just for the sheer opportunity to travel and share it all with you! I’m truly grateful for all your encouragement and love! So here’s to exploring the beauty of life, embracing the magic of travel, and remembering that every day is a new adventure waiting to be unfolded, like the delicate folds of a ballet tutu!

Until next time, remember - there's a little ballerina inside of us all. Find your pink tutu, put it on, twirl, and embrace the world!

Ciao, for now!

Your Emma xoxo
