Pink Tutu Milan: Week 288 - A Dreamy December Day in Milano

Buongiorno, darlings! It's your favourite pink-tutu-clad traveller, Emma, back from the fashion capital of the world, Milan, Italy! This week, I'm spilling the tea (and maybe a little bit of prosecco) on a magical day in this captivating city.

So, let's rewind to a gloriously crisp Wednesday morning. The sun was peeking through the blinds in my gorgeous Milan apartment (a spacious flat with a balcony – I know, dream life!). Dressed in my favourite pink ballet wrap dress (of course, the colour pink, my darling, the colour pink!), I took a brisk stroll to the local bakery for the most decadent pastries. They were absolutely divine! I mean, a good croissant is all you need to get that Parisian vibe going, right?

Now, listen carefully, because this is where things get exciting! You know how I’m all about spreading the pink tutu love around the world? Well, I had the most fantastic idea! I decided to make this December a month of pink tutu surprise giveaways. What could be more fabulous than a chance to win a beautiful pink tutu, specially designed with some of my favourite Italian floral details?

You can find more details on how to win the pink tutu giveaway on the website, darling! I’ll post a link to the competition page.

Anyway, after breakfast, it was time to take the tram to the heart of the city! I simply love riding the tram in Milan. The old, rickety trams with their clanging bells add a charming vintage touch to the modern streets. You’ve got to experience the vibrant bustle of the city from the open-air deck of the tram. It’s pure Milanese magic!

I made my way to the Scala, one of the most famous opera houses in the world. The architecture is stunning, a beautiful blend of neoclassical and baroque, all decked out in golden details. Inside, I wandered through the opulent corridors and grand foyer. It's simply breath-taking, even for someone who's seen more than her fair share of opulent spaces (don't forget, my dear, I have performed at some of the most magnificent ballet venues!).

This Wednesday, I treated myself to a performance of "Swan Lake," which was truly spectacular! The costumes were exquisite, the dancers were utterly brilliant, and the music was just ethereal. I could have sat there for hours, mesmerised by their movements. You know, I’m really inspired to start integrating some Swan Lake elements into my next routine.

After the ballet, I couldn't resist indulging in some Milanese shopping therapy! I picked up some chic new ballet shoes – let's just say I've developed a serious footwear obsession (sorry, bank balance!). I also got a couple of lovely ballet-inspired accessories, a delicate chain with a pink tutu charm (I wear it everywhere, even on my day off – just a little pink tutu reminder to keep the dream alive!) And you can't come to Milan without indulging in some serious leather goods! A luxurious handbag with beautiful Italian craftsmanship (because my love for leather bags is just as much a part of my identity as my love for pink tutus!)

The evening, of course, had to be dedicated to indulging in a delicious Italian feast! A steaming plate of creamy risotto, a delightful bowl of fresh pasta, and a glass of the finest prosecco (a glass of fizz is an absolute must!) – the perfect ending to a dreamy December day in Milan.

But don’t think my adventures are ending here, darling! I’m also taking some time to explore the artistic and cultural side of Milan, as there are museums, art galleries, and historic churches to visit. There's so much to explore here, even beyond the glam world of ballet and fashion! And, who knows, maybe I'll find some hidden gems to share with you in my next blog post.

I hope you all had a fantastic week, and remember, don't forget to enter the pink tutu competition – I’m so excited to share the pink tutu magic with one lucky winner. Remember to check back next week for more pink-tutu-tastic Milanese adventures. Until then, stay fabulous and spread the love (and pink tutus) wherever you go!

With love and twirls,

Emma xxx

Exploring Milan's Tram Network:

Before I go, darling, I wanted to give you a little sneak peek at the Milanese trams that are my go-to for getting around town. You see, they offer a perfect glimpse of local life. From the moment you hop on, you’ll see everything, from elegant Milanese ladies going about their day in the most chic outfits, to families headed home after a day of exploration. And, they are always full of character.

Here's what I adore about Milanese trams:

  • Charmingly Retro: With their classic design and bright colours, they really make you feel like you’re stepping back in time (especially if you spot the ones with those delightful wooden floors!).

  • Convenient and Budget-Friendly: You’ll love how affordable they are and how convenient they are for getting around! A single ride only costs a few euros. Plus, there’s nothing quite like getting from one side of the city to the other, gazing out at all the vibrant sights.

  • Always Exciting: No tram journey is ever the same in Milan, with different tram routes showcasing so many contrasting districts, bustling market squares, and picturesque green spaces. I love catching a glimpse of everyday life in Milan through the tram windows!

Now, don't forget to hop on board those pink-tutu-friendly trams next time you're in Milan. You might even see me gliding through the streets, leaving a sprinkle of pink-tutu magic wherever I go!

And, for all you dancers out there, remember: If you love pink tutus as much as I do, then be sure to show me your love for dancing on social media, tagging @pinktutuemma and using the hashtag #pinktutu. Let's create a whole world of twirling, twirling, twirling, and spreading the pink tutu love, one dancer at a time.

Talk soon, darling!

Some Top Tips For Tramming Around Milan:

To help you experience the magic of the Milanese trams, here are a few top tips:

  • Plan Ahead: Pick up a map of the Milan tram system at your hotel or from a tourist information centre to work out the best tram routes.

  • Invest in a Pass: If you’re staying for a few days or planning to ride a lot, getting a tram pass will save you a lot of money.

  • Always Have Coins Handy: Some trams still have traditional ticket machines where you can only pay with coins. Make sure you have a few small denominations handy to purchase your ticket on the spot.

  • Explore Different Tram Lines: Take a variety of tram lines, such as tram #1, #2 or #15, which take you through the city center. This is the best way to get to know all the exciting districts.

  • Embrace the Journey: Don't rush your journey, savour the sights and sounds, and you’ll have a wonderful time discovering the charm of Milan, one tram ride at a time!

See you on the trams, darlings!
