Pink Tutu Milan: #337 – Wednesday, 21st November 2001

Dearest Tutuettes,

The crisp Milanese air is nipping at my nose this morning, but it doesn't dampen my spirits! Today's a wonderful day – the perfect excuse to don my favourite pink tulle creation (the one with the sparkly silver bows, if you're wondering!) and hit the streets of Milan. As I always say, a good ballet class needs a fabulous shopping spree to go with it, don't you agree?

Before we get to the fabulousness of today, a little recap of my travels so far! This week's #PinkTutuMilan journey has been full of exciting happenings, like a fabulous flamenco show that transported me right to Seville (but, luckily, without the need to pack my dancing shoes – although I may be tempted to bring a pair on my next trip!), and the most incredible afternoon tea at a little cafe nestled between the grand Duomo and a stunning palazzo (I won't mention the delicious petit fours – I might be drooling right now). Oh, and a rather splendid trip to a hidden antique market that's brimming with the most gorgeous vintage brooches and handbags, the kind that just beg to be paired with a lovely pink tulle skirt!

Milan truly is a haven for all things fashionable – you wouldn't believe the incredible shops I've been finding! Not only do they stock the most dazzling outfits (think emerald green jackets that would make any ballerina look like a queen!), but they also have an endless selection of the prettiest pink tutus!

Oh, but this isn't just any shopping spree. It's a hunt for the perfect vintage silk scarf to wear with my ballet class outfit. It's not enough to simply have a gorgeous tutu, darlings – you need the accessories to really complete the look! A delicate pink scarf draped gracefully over the shoulder – perfection, pure and simple.

It's a journey filled with vibrant energy – from the hustle and bustle of the Duomo's piazza to the gentle whirring of the tram tracks. It's the little details that make this city truly sing: the cobbled streets, the cheerful cafes bursting with the scent of espresso and the most divine pastries, and, of course, the warmth and hospitality of the Milanese people.

It's the perfect time to pause for a coffee at one of the little sidewalk cafes. You can feel the spirit of Milan all around – a sense of life lived beautifully, embraced with style and passion. I love watching the locals bustle by – their quick, confident strides in their impeccable tailoring make me feel a little bit like I'm in a vintage Italian film.

Speaking of the beautiful people, I found a new favourite boutique this afternoon. It's tucked away down a tiny backstreet, a little haven filled with a treasure trove of hand-stitched, exquisite garments – truly unique. I fell in love with a shimmering silver blouse, and of course, had to pick out a new pink tutu for my ballet class this evening. The owner, a delightful lady named Carla, promised me a rare pink tulle imported from France – oh my! She also has an incredible collection of handmade flowers to adorn your hair – perfect for a special performance.

But the best part of the day, you ask? It was back in my little apartment. Oh, my little haven in the heart of Milan! Imagine: The scent of vanilla and lavender swirling around as the warm glow of candlelight casts intricate patterns across my bedroom. And of course, a cup of steaming chamomile tea with a tiny (and, naturally, pink) sugar cube! My little haven is ready for a calming evening filled with writing my blog, listening to my favourite ballet music, and daydreaming of all the beautiful possibilities life has to offer.

As a little bit of a tradition for you darlings, here's what the Italian cultural calendar has on offer today:

  • "I Promessi Sposi" Opera: If you're looking for something a little grand, head down to the Teatro alla Scala!
  • Art exhibition "The Dream of a Flower": The lovely Palazzo Reale has an impressive exhibit about the Japanese influence on art. Perfect for a tranquil evening exploring the world of culture!

There is always something amazing happening in Milan, darling, so make sure you follow me on social media for all my recommendations.

I can't believe it, but the sun has dipped below the horizon. Time for a warm bath to prepare for a lovely ballet class.

But wait! What’s this? My little balcony! It’s bursting with the most incredible pink lilies! The universe seems to be sending me a signal. It's definitely time for a tutu-inspired post. You all know how much I love my little ballet routine. A little twirl, a little leap, and the perfect dose of confidence, even after a long day of exploring and shopping.

You see, I believe that everyone can be a ballerina! You don't have to be on a stage to wear a pink tutu – you can wear it to the shops, on the train, even to the park! Life is about expressing yourself, embracing the joy of movement, and wearing the colors that make your soul sing. That's the message I want to share with the world.

But more on my adventures next week – stay tuned, darlings! Until then, dance on, embrace the pink, and never forget to twirl!
