Pink Tutu Milan: Post 336 - 14th November, 2001 - La Scala, a Slice of Life & Shopping Spree!
Ciao bellas! It’s your girl, Emma, writing to you live from the dazzling city of Milan, Italy! Another week has flown by and it's Monday once again. You know what that means! Pink Tutu Milan is back, and it’s bursting at the seams with Italian style and that magical Milanese magic!
The air here is thick with anticipation and excitement as another fabulous week comes to a close. I, for one, can’t wait to share all the fabulous experiences that have unfolded over the past seven days. Where to start? Well, why not with…
La Scala, The Jewel of Milan!
First and foremost, I'm absolutely bursting with excitement to tell you about the most fabulous ballet performance I have seen in a very long time, possibly ever! We had tickets for La Scala’s premiere of "La Traviata" - yes, that "La Traviata" - by Giuseppe Verdi. It's a real treat to have the opportunity to see these classics on such an iconic stage. The costumes, the music, the dancing… It was simply breathtaking!
Before the curtain even rose, I found myself captivated by the grand architectural masterpiece that is La Scala itself. It’s one of those rare structures that transcends its physical form and becomes a place of pure enchantment. You’re stepping into history the moment you cross the threshold – imagine me, all flouncy pink tutu and rosy cheeks, gliding through that magnificent lobby! I felt a right princess!
I even got a peek into the dancers' rehearsal rooms - such incredible energy buzzing about. It's amazing to see how hard the performers work to bring their craft to life. It really inspired me.
As the opening music swelled and the first scene began, my heart leaped! It felt as though I were transported to another world - a world where love and loss intertwined and each emotional step and elegant gesture, each whispered note, had me spellbound! I truly do feel blessed to be in such a magnificent city, experiencing the magic of this incredible ballet performance.
Milan – The Heartbeat of Fashion!
Oh darling, the shopping scene in Milan has got me weak at the knees. It's the absolute dream destination for any shopaholic – that’s why they call it the fashion capital of the world, right?
First off, I ventured down via Dante – an elegant boulevard full of those irresistible designer boutiques and chic boutiques. Just the sight of them was enough to make my head spin - like something out of a beautiful dream! My head was swimming with ideas!
For my visit, I wanted to try a new approach to pink… How about deep pink, like those luscious cherry tomatoes you see in markets! I was also tempted by magenta – all bold and dramatic. And maybe even a dash of salmon, perhaps? But ultimately, my love for pure, beautiful pink shone through.
I also have a soft spot for floral details, which I think really lift the mood of any garment. I’m talking dainty daisies, luxurious peonies, elegant lilies…. Just lovely, aren’t they?
Anyway, I left those boutiques a bit lighter in the pocket, but so much happier with some divine finds for my new pink tutu wardrobe!
A Day of Tram Travel
Of course, when in Milan, you have to indulge in one of the iconic trams that weave their way through the city! On Tuesday, I had an adventure hopping aboard a gorgeous red tram. The leather seats, the brass fittings… it felt like stepping back in time!
I love the gentle rumble of the trams, the slight rocking motion – a true classic, wouldn’t you agree? Of course, I got a lot of curious stares, I’m always a bit of a sight in my pink tutus, but hey – that’s just my style! You gotta own it, right?
Life as a Ballet Dancer – Not Just for the Stage
Don't think for a minute that my life is all glamour and fashion shows, you know. My life is filled with an extraordinary rhythm and discipline - much like a ballerina’s life itself! I am, after all, a ballet dancer – not just a performer, but also a student!
This past week, I took the opportunity to explore the bustling scene in Milan and was simply wowed by the dance schools. They are vibrant, filled with enthusiasm. I was welcomed with open arms. So, yes, I did treat myself to some extra classes this week. You just can’t get enough, darling, and I truly believe that every opportunity to learn is a chance to grow!
Food, Glorious Food!
My days in Milan were full of food discoveries – I simply couldn't resist! The smell of roasted meats coming from street vendors wafted over me and lured me to sample some juicy roasted chestnuts - divine!
And when it came to the pasta, my oh my… I could write a book on the topic. From delicate pasta, like Tagliatelle and delicate Fettuccine, to the hearty richness of gnocchi… each mouthful a delicious adventure. Milan is a feast for the senses. I'm planning a full food diary post next week, I can't wait!
Milan's Magic!
To wrap up this incredible week in Milan, it’s clear this is a city that really stays in your heart – that extra something special is woven through every cobblestone and echoed in every street corner. There is this unique, powerful energy – it's an exciting buzz, it's creative magic, it’s that spark of inspiration that seems to linger long after you've gone.
I really encourage you all to plan a trip to Milan. It's so easy to get there, too - I arrived by a fast train - which whizzed through the stunning Italian countryside in style!
If you’re feeling the call of the big city, why not step outside your comfort zone and put on your most daring pink tutu? You can’t be in Milan without some color, my darling. You’ll find it is waiting for you. Don’t let that pink tutu gather dust in the wardrobe!
See you all next week - from the bright and bubbly heart of Milan!
Love, Emma xoxo
