I’m back on Italian soil once again, my pink tutu twirling excitedly as I embrace the fashion capital of the world! Oh, how I love this city! I landed in Milan just yesterday, having traveled by train from the glorious Swiss Alps. You should have seen my fellow passengers, a mix of dashing businessmen and fashionable ladies sporting the latest Italian chic. I just knew that my hot pink tutu would be the star of the show!
Now, my week in Milan is shaping up beautifully. My first show was on Monday – the Teatro alla Scala hosted La Bohème by Giacomo Puccini! It was pure magic! You could feel the history radiating from those grand velvet seats, and the opera singers' voices were simply divine. Even the air hummed with the music of the night. A pink tutu was essential for the occasion, naturally! I opted for a soft, ruffled number with a sparkling trim, which shimmered with every arabesque and pirouette I danced, even in the plush plush theatre seats!
This week is filled with a delightful mix of dance and delights. Tuesday saw me in a dance class in the heart of the city. The Milanese ladies are such talented dancers, their elegant steps filled with both passion and grace. It's not easy keeping up with these passionate Italians! But I gave it my best shot, wearing a delicate pastel pink tutu that floated like a cloud on the studio floor.
Tonight, it's the opening of a new exhibition at the Museo del Novecento focusing on the legendary fashion designers of Italy! I am positively delighted! The show promises a spectacular array of creations by masters such as Prada, Gucci, and Armani. Oh, the costumes, the colours, the silhouettes - I can practically feel the fabulousness tingling in my toes already! And naturally, a pink tutu is a must! My vibrant, candy-pink confection with delicate, layered ruffles will be my companion on this exciting fashion journey!
And to think, I funded my Milan adventure with my own ballet performances back in Derbyshire! Remember those glittering galas at Chatsworth House? Those unforgettable performances in the Market Square? Well, my passion for the dance has literally brought me to this fabulous fashion haven. It’s proof that hard work and a pinch of pink tutu magic can take you anywhere you want to be!
My darling pink tutus and I are positively smitten with the Italian lifestyle. The cobblestone streets, the delightful cafes, the exquisite art, and of course, the vibrant fashion - it's all a kaleidoscope of visual delight! Wednesday Adventures: Shopping, Food and Glamour! Shopping till You Drop (or Maybe Just a Bit!)
Milan is a haven for fashionistas, with luxury boutiques lining every street! It’s like a catwalk, with beautiful displays and stunning creations on display! I simply had to visit the glorious Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II! This dazzling shopping arcade is home to high-end designer brands and the most incredible craftsmanship I have ever seen. The domed roof is covered in intricate mosaics, adding a touch of extra glam!
I also spent an afternoon browsing through vintage boutiques hidden amongst the busy streets. I found a little gem tucked away in the charming Brera district. There, I snagged a vintage 1960s tutu - a light blue with an amazing tulle-covered belt. This beautiful vintage creation, with its delicate femininity, would look fabulous with a splash of pink! Maybe a statement belt or a dash of pink lipstick! You never know what gems you can find on the hunt for fashion treasure!
Foodie Delights and Pastries fit for a Princess
Of course, my darling Pink Tutu girl has to indulge in the culinary delights of Milan. Imagine: fresh pasta with a generous amount of creamy Parmesan, or delectable pastries filled with luscious cream! A feast for the senses, I tell you!
I found the perfect cafe tucked away near the Teatro alla Scala, tucked between the opulent palaces of Milan. I had a glorious lunch, indulging in a light and delicate ricotta salad and a slice of warm almond cake. The scent of roasted espresso was the perfect companion to my delectable afternoon break!
My love for sweet treats has made me a huge fan of the local bakery called Pasticceria Marchesi. They are known for their mouthwatering desserts, particularly their almond pastries. I'm talking about little bundles of joy, packed with sweet goodness, perfect for a sugar rush while taking a break from all the shopping! I do believe a ballerina must always have a bit of sweetness to fuel those pirouettes and grand jetés!
A Cultural Glimpse into Milan's Rich Heritage
On this lovely Wednesday, I took a walk through the magnificent Sforza Castle, a masterpiece of Renaissance architecture. The castle gardens are simply breathtaking. You feel as though you’ve been transported into a fairytale - beautiful manicured lawns, vibrant flowers, and ornate fountains - it's a true sight to behold! It's like something out of a ballerina's dream. Imagine waltzing in such a magnificent setting!
Speaking of magnificent settings, the Santa Maria delle Grazie church was an absolute must-visit. Home to Da Vinci’s world-famous "Last Supper" painting, I was mesmerised by its realism, detail and the emotional power behind its artistic portrayal of this biblical event. It really is a sight to behold. Of course, I went all out in a dramatic scarlet pink tutu, pairing it with my new 60s blue number, as if I was leading my own little fashion dance ensemble, captivating Milan one tutu at a time!
