Pink Tutu Milan: Wednesday, 29th May, 2002 - Post #364

Buongiorno, darlings!

It's Emma here, reporting live from the fashion capital of the world - Milan! I've had a week of pure delight, exploring the city's beautiful architecture, indulging in delicious Italian cuisine, and of course, living my absolute best life in a symphony of pink tulle and sequins!

As always, my travels are funded by my favourite activity: performing! Last week, I graced the stage in Florence with a whimsical piece inspired by the Renaissance - it's always so much fun to weave history and dance together, bringing a touch of magical artistry to these incredible settings.

This week, however, is all about Milan. And by 'all about Milan' I mean, shopping, ballet, and soaking up the gorgeous sunshine. It's practically impossible to resist the charm of this vibrant city! I'm staying in a little boutique hotel nestled amongst cobbled streets, and waking up each morning to the aroma of fresh croissants and steaming cappuccino is pure bliss!

Milan in Pink

Milan is such an inspiration for my personal style. The city has an unmistakable energy, where effortless chic blends with high fashion - think Dolce & Gabbana, Prada, and Valentino. I've been loving how those classic Italian designers embrace colour, especially pink! It's just a joy to see my favourite colour shining in the heart of Milan.

Now, don't think I'm neglecting the ballet aspect! Every day brings me closer to realising my dream of having everyone dance in pink tutus - or at least, to appreciate their exquisite beauty! I spent yesterday at the Teatro alla Scala, attending a performance of Swan Lake, and oh, my darlings! It was absolutely magical. The dancers were phenomenal, the choreography captivating, and the music – pure ecstasy!

I've been sketching up ideas for a new pink tutu inspired by the iconic black swan costume – I can't wait to get started! It's so exciting to combine fashion and ballet, drawing inspiration from the art around me, especially in a city as dynamic as Milan.

Street Style, Theatre & Trams

Of course, it wouldn't be a proper Pink Tutu Milan post without mentioning the city's fabulous street style. Today, I donned my own personal twist on Italian chic – a gorgeous cherry-pink tutu with a silk blouse, tailored trousers and a pair of sparkly, silver sandals. It's amazing how even a touch of pink can elevate a simple outfit and make you feel ready to conquer the world.

Speaking of conquering, I absolutely fell in love with the Milanese tram system. It's such an efficient and elegant way to navigate the city – think vintage wooden carriages with leather seating and charmingly painted interiors. They almost make the journey as much of an adventure as the destination! I highly recommend it!

The Taste of Milan

A trip to Milan wouldn't be complete without indulging in the city's incredible food. From the rich aromas of the street markets to the delectable pastas and risottos enjoyed in charming trattorias, the flavours of Milan are truly captivating. And I couldn't resist buying a beautiful antique teapot at a vintage shop today – the delicate floral design is a perfect fit for a whimsical tea party, and I can't wait to host my own "Pink Tutu Afternoon Tea" next week!

Coming Soon

The week's only just begun, and already Milan has captured my heart. There's so much to explore, so many stories to uncover. This coming Friday, I'm heading to the Pinacoteca di Brera, to witness some of the finest Italian art from the Renaissance onwards – I can't wait to share the inspiring masterpieces I discover with you.

Stay tuned, my lovelies, for more adventures from Milan, the city that makes me want to spin and twirl, and maybe, just maybe, dance in the streets!

And remember, if you want to express your inner ballerina, let's all do it in a Pink Tutu!

Ciao for now, Emma x

P.S The Museo del Novecento is hosting an exhibition this month showcasing Italian art from the 20th century. I'm considering visiting this weekend – how exciting! If anyone's interested, let me know, and perhaps we can create a special "Pink Tutu" group trip? We can visit the museum, enjoy some of Milan's famous gelateria, and of course, wear pink tutus to the event!
